Can't argue with that, but it's a limiting factor and I 100% believe the conf invite rule is an antitrust violation if the result is that geography is the only reason that a school cannot move up to FBS. IF the WAC or ASUN finagled their way into FBS through the sketchy NMSU loophole or any other bending of current rules, ya gotta think the NCAA would give NDSU/MVFC a waiver if they wanted to move up, whether it be with existing conf membership or a mix of schools that could include the Montanas. But really the only way I see a path for the WAC or ASUN to move up would be if the current system completely changes and the P5 actually creates a meaningful gap with the G5 (it's trending that way).

Side note, given state law in Virginia, is JMU legally permitted to move, even if they want to? Something about a student fee limit at Virginia FBS schools?
