The home teams won in every game today except Towson, and since Towson has no more than 250 fans, it was probably more Duquesne’s home than Towson.

Maybe Maine being home, and Colgate, means something

I think the slump from the KSU barn burner showed in the first half. Getting a win should put some wind under those Gamecock wings. Will it be enough on the road trip to Orono? This may easily the hardest road game JSU will have had under Grass.

I've never bought into the cold will hurt a southern team - or hear a northern. It impacts both teams the same. Cold is cold for both teams.

The difference comes in that if things go poorly for a southern team they are more likely to quit faster because it's cold and it's not their norm.

If things start to turn for JSU it'll be if they are willing to fight in the cold.

It was around 40 last night towards the end of the game and the fog wasn't making it any warmer.

Based off the current forecast the weather may not be as big an issue as some are expecting. We get freezing temps even here in the south. I think we got to 34 last night. No snow in the outlook and the wind looks to be a non-factor. Hopefully their prediction holds.

Difference is low vs high

Thanks high is lower than your low, Wich happens over night.

Now take that low, make it colder, and make that the warmest you get

I've also seen a handful of JSU games this year, including every single one through your eyes in our group text.

If there is a team in this years playoffs I'd bet on to quit in the cold if things go poorly, it's jsu

Or Frisco 2015

I went to your game against NDSU in Frisco. I think I'd size up the difference in that game in 2 words: Carson Wentz. Fortunately for JSU, Wentz won't be playing QB for Maine. Although, I think Maine's chances weigh pretty heavily on whether or not their #1 QB, Chris Ferguson, plays and how close he is to 100%. My comment on JSU guys flying to Maine was more in fun - although there is a lot more to playoff homefield advantage that climate differences. I agree that a 15 degree difference in temperature may not make a significance impact, maybe combined with all the other factors of a very long (by FCS standards) road trip it will. Obviously it doesn't always, there are plenty of examples where teams do well in the same situation.

I'm not worried about the temperature at all. I'm worried about Cooper's ability to stay calm. He threw two interceptions that weren't anywhere near receivers.

I'm worried about whether our defense is actually going to be able to make tackles in the backfield. Too many missed tackles last week.

Yeah, I've been saying all season the offense will go as the offensive line goes, right now the OL is doing a good job and Coop just needs to settle in. I think starting out the game with a heavy dose of Jalen Greene could be a could way to ease Coop into it rather than come out 5 wide, guns ablazing.

I think the EWU game in 2013 had flurries sporadically. Frisco even had sleet in 2015. The last time JSU likely played in relevant snow accumulation was in the 1989 D2 Championship. 3” of snow fell during the game, and Miss.College won by a FG, 3-0. Of course, that win was later forfeited as part of the NCAA penalties they had to pay due to cheating.

Maine AGS posters will lay low before the game, if they win they'll jump on right after the game and try to tell you "told you so" blasting you for everything posted pre-game. In fairness they have been traumatized by losing 13 out of 15 games to rival UNH.

That would worry me, but based on what I've been seeing today during my "research" I think Maine is going to have a helluva time trying to move the ball if we don't give them any freebies like we gave ETSU. Our offense vs. their defense will be strength on strength and Coop is going to have to perform like he did in the 2nd half last night to get things done. When you consider that UMaine apparently really likes to play man coverage and we might have the best set of wideouts in the whole bracket that matchup starts to look less daunting. I really like the matchup between our defense and their offense.

Yeah, I saw that transitive relationship. Maine probably had no business being a seed. Who knows, but me thinks it will be shown in this game. JSU may very well do their JSU thing. I have them beating Maine by 7.

Weve been seeded a few times when we didnt deserve it too.

For sure any travelers need some serious cold weather survival gear. If driving, I recommend stopping at the Kittery Trading Post on the ME/NH border. If flying to Portland and driving, of course LL Bean is on the way.

I thought Elon had a pretty decent line. If that is true, it seems like Maine may have a pretty decent defensive line.

I'm not worried about the temperature at all. I'm worried about Cooper's ability to stay calm. He threw two interceptions that weren't anywhere near receivers.

I'm worried about whether our defense is actually going to be able to make tackles in the backfield. Too many missed tackles last week.

Sent from my SM-G960U using TapatalkRead what I said.

The cold itself won't impact anything

The ability to not "quit" when things get a touch dicey and it's in the 20s with snow on the ground and 15mph winds blowing is where things come in

Both teams have to play in the cold. That's what it is. The difference could be in maybe players being more used to the cold and it takes longer or more to impact their mental state than a bunch of kids who have shown - many many many time this year - the ability to lose focus and control and interest rather quickly who are largely from the south where it may get cold a couple days a year but don't have any prolonged cold.

As I said, they'll be practicing in 60° weather all week. Just because it's 35-40 at 1 am doesn't make it easy to mentally prepare for

Snow is supposed to stop falling on Tuesday and the high doesn't drop to freezing until Saturday. There is no reason there should be any snow at all on that turf with the current outlook.

Maine really sucks and have no idea how they won 8 games and the CAA title. Surely their defense that was #2 in FCS against the run had nothing to do with it. Playing only 4 games at a home was a huge advantage for them and now they get to play a fifth game where they havn't lost since last year. This team plays like they have no chip on their shoulder and they give up the minute they get behind just like did against WKU down 21 -0 in the first 7 minutes of the game. Now that the Saturday high is only 32 F and it's not gonna snow I am not even sure they will show upxdrunkyx

Its mostly miles of snowdrift this time of year. In the summer, around July 4th, the snow melts enough to uncover the Desert of Maine... You can visit it on your drive up from Portland, but it will be covered by glaciers this time of year.

As much as I want Maine to win this game, I don't see it happening. Maine is a good team, but not great and benefited greatly by the schedule and injuries this year.

Missed JMU, UD

Faced UNH, Nova, URI, Elon without their star QBs. They may have been the only team to have managed that bit of luck.

Lost to W&M. Best win was Towson - and, in the process, must have provided great game film for those that followed them.

You need a Bear like this -

2) Looks like a Bear
3) Face that can be friendly & inviting AND, at the same time, toothsome & fierce.

Ha! Could be. I think all sports share the same bananas outfit and this one was clearly at the end of its life.

Why did they think they needed to change it?

Not sure...it happened around the same time as the helmet changed. The old design is on my avatar... the new design is fine but inferior from my perspective. The cursive Maine cannot be beat. Marketing people doing marketing things...

Black Bears on what looks like a cold and possibly wet day.

I do not think the weather gives Maine any significant advantage.

It is just as cold right now in Jacksonville, Alabama as it is in Orono, Maine. JSU is also not having to deal with rainy practice conditions.

Not suggesting you are, but many folks assume it does not get cold in the South. We don't have -8 or anything, but it is routinely in the 20s and 30s. So, playing outdoors in the cold isn't going to be some great mental block for JSU.

Would expect today's practice and possibly tomorrow's inside the bubble and Thursday and Friday outside at the Alfond. Weather sounds ideal 34F and partly sunny, lucking out as Sunday is another snow/rain event just like today.xnodx

People in Maine are in winter/holiday mode now. They don't have time to worry about a football game. Their bigger concerns are will the power stay on during the next storm and will the roads be plowed so they can get their cigs, beer and scratch tickets.

That's Roc Thomas in the kickoff game last year.

He is in the NFL now.

Our new running game is runningbacks by committee but Jalen Green has been starting to take over the lead role. You can see why with some of these runs he had the other night against ETSU.

Roc was a stud... thankfully when we faced him the OL wasn't playing well. A few weeks ago against us the JSU OL found a few opportunities to open up some holes and the running game came alive. I think JSU plays best with a balanced attack. If they can get some yards on the ground it will give Cooper the confidence he needs to put the game away.

The biggest problem we had last year against you guys was Horn. The OL wasn't playing well because you were selling out on Roc because Horn wasn't a threat. We got the running game going this year after Coop started lighting your secondary on fire.

You apparently stopped listening after he said it was disrespectful. He laid the blame for not earning a seed directly on him and the staff for not getting it done against UNH and Elon -- "We didn't take care of business." From the times I've observed him in interviews, he pulls no punches and says exactly what he thinks. Little to no 'coach-speak' and lots of (sometimes brutal) honesty with him. If you want to call that crying, go ahead.

I still won't root for Maine to win this weekend, but if they do I'll congratulate them and wish them luck in Fargo. They'll be trying to do what only 1 team has been able to do in the past 8 playoffs - beat the Bison in the FargoDome.

FTR I don't think we win @ Colgate this weekend, regardless of the drama / game of chicken going on in Harrisonburg, Greenville, and Charlotte right now.

I love how they were whining about playing us.

"I can't believe we are the best team in the CAA and have to play a team like JSU!” "If our name was JMU or Richmond we wouldn't be here!"

All Maine here early on. Furgeson with a huge pass for a TD and the Black Bears lead 14-0.

Almost a mistake, bad decision. Maine is threatening to run away if they can score on their next drive. JSU needs to convert.

How is the crowd?

Maine gets the stop. Just short of the fourth, JSU will go.

Maine already driving. After the huge stop by the defense, Black Bears are in JSU territory. JSU needs a stop.

I'd like to apologize to the ETSU football team.

No question in my mind that they wanted to play football today.

This game is all Maine. One team came to play, the other one didn’t. All to familiar for Cock fans. 21-0, crowd amped up, defense playing great, offense clicking.
