Yale still has an open date which would be an away game. I'm hoping for an FBS opponent like Uconn, Air Force or Navy but I would settle for another CAA opponent like Delaware, Williiam & Mary, Albany, Stony Brook or Villanova.

I wouldn't be surprised if Holy Cross backed out after considering their 4-27 lifetime record versus Yale. xsmiley_wix

It is an amazingly, almost improbable, poor record.....no other school has close to a one-sided advantage against HC...particularly against FCS opponents.

In our defense, much of the poor record against Yale can be rationalized away in that Yale dominated the early part of the series when they were one of the titans of college football and the two schools didn't play often in what can be termed "HC's golden era of football" from the 1930s through the 1950s:

http://cfbdatawarehouse.com/data/active/h/holy_cross/opponents_records.php?teamid=3649

One of the best games I've ever seen in person was the 1981 HC-Yale game....the Eli eking out a 29-28 W at Fitton. Hope the series continues on in some fashion.

I too hope the series is resumed. I wasn't at the '81 game but I listened to it on the radio. It was indeed a great game. Here's a highlight of that game's MVP Rich Diana scoring a touchdown. He ended up finishing 10th in the Heisman Trophy voting that year.

Nothing posted for Colgate in 2018, though what I've seen here and elsewhere suggests we already have:
9/1-Holy Cross (A conference game in Week 1?)
9/15-at Yale
11/17-at Army

Rest of the PL schedule should be
Home: Georgetown, Lafayette
Away: Bucknell, Fordham, Lehigh

Also Furman away (the Paladins are in Hamilton this year), and the 100th meeting between Colgate and Cornell (should be in Hamilton)

Presumably looking for a home game to fill that 11th slot...

For driving 500 miles up north to Massachusetts they might as well have taken the payday to go travel 300 miles south to play NC A&T where the guarantee would be substantially higher and its 2 hours closer skipping on the NYC traffic

I'd be all for it, but HBCU's already traveling to Washington to play Howard don't see the need for a home and home when they could pick up a guarantee game instead. Once A&T sees where Georgetown plays, they are less likely to do a deal.

Away: Bucknell, Fordham, Lehigh

Also Furman away (the Paladins are in Hamilton this year), and the 100th meeting between Colgate and Cornell (should be in Hamilton)

Presumably looking for a home game to fill that 11th slot...

Future schedules updated on the website: http://gocolgateraiders.com/documents/2017/2/7/Colgate_Future_Football_Schedules_2017_18.pdf?path =football

9/1-Holy Cross*
9/8-at New Hampshire
9/15-at Furman
9/22-at William & Mary
9/29-at Lehigh*
10/6-at Bucknell*
10/13-Cornell
10/27-Georgetown*
11/3-at Fordham*
11/10-Lafayette*
11/17-at Army

So no Yale, apparently, but trips to UNH and W&M. Going to both in one year is tough, but maybe they make the return trip in 2019? Just one OOC home game, though given it's #100, I'll take it. Brutal stretch of road games there in Sept/Oct, but the worst part is opening with a League matchup (HC) and playing Lehigh in September.

I'd take it. LU has had some pretty boring schedules for the last 10 years or so.

Lehigh's 2010 (#1 and defending FCS Champ 'Nova and UNH), 2011 (Top 25 UNH and Liberty) and 2014 (Top 25 JMU and Top 5 UNH) OOC schedule's were really good. The 2016 ('Nova plus Co-Ivy Champs, 2015 (JMU, Ivy Champ Penn and a solid Princeton), 2009 (National Champ 'Nova, good Harvard team, along with Yale and Princeton) were well above average. Solid schedules 2013 (Top 25 UNH ok Monmouth and Princeton) 2008 (solid Villanova and Harvard team's. Not very good 2012 (Just a lot of blah, @ Liberty was the highlight)

Hopefully Villanova turns out to be Top 25 this year and Penn keeps up their recent play. Otherwise the 2017 schedule will do Lehigh schedule no favors....

One goo opponent does not a good schedule make. We play the ivies, those should be our down games, not the constant feast of NEC teams. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Butler back on the schedule.

The Ivy League has faired quote well against the CAA recently. Definitely better than the PL as a whole. As long as Lehigh plays the top of the league I like 2 games per year against the Ancient 8. I really enjoy Princeton as a regular OOC opponent. Some on here might not respect the IL but that doesn't mean they're not quality opponents.

I like the bond the Ivy League and Patriot League have in football. Great stadiums, great schools, great places to spend a late summer, early fall afternoon. I agree wit you on the NEC games. I'd rather bottom dweller from the CAA or SoCon for a tune-up type game.

Despite playing Princeton and Harvard this year, Ivys have been a little scarce on the Lafayette schedules of late. Of particular note is the absence of Pennsylvania, I think the Quackers are the third most played opponent in Leopard history (somewhere around 90 games). Somebody pi$$ed off somebody and the story is not getting out.

Great weather in September, among the best tailgating in college football and you'll be welcomed warmly, plus, good gosh, who DOESN'T want to see Fargo at least once in their lifetime? That's really cool. I know that some of the HBCU "classics" are tradition out east and in the south, but we haven't seen much of them in the Midwest right? I don't think I'd heard about this one or the one in Chicago before last year. Am I just way out of the loop, or are they relatively new?

The Chicago Classic has been going since 1997. For the last 4 seasons there hasn't been any FCS HBCUs in the game it's been SIAC and CIAA HBCUs playing in it until this season where Grambling is a participant. The Circle City Classic has ben going since 1983 but like the Chicago Classic since 2013 its been Central D2 HBCUs from SIAC/CIAA participating. Both the Chicago Classic and Circle City Classic attendance have fallen since the FCS HBCUs haven't been playing in them. Attendance for these two were usually over the 50,000 mark with the FCS HBCUs have now fallen around the 30,000 mark with the D2s. The Circle City Classic is usually one of the most attended Classics but the matchups lately haven't gotten the buz like they once did when it was the larger HBCUs playing.

This was the weakest team we had during a stretch from 1981 through 1985. Absolutely no offense which means the defense was always on the field. The 1983 team was by far the best team but they lost in the semis I believe in the great mud pit bowl. High powered offense with pretty good defense.

Just to be clear.

The 1981 NDSU football team lost to Texas State 42-13.
The 1982 NDSU football team lost to UC Davis 19-14.
The 1983 NDSU football team won the NC.
The 1984 NDSU football team lost on a last second field goal to Troy 18-17 on a rushed last second long field goal.
The 1985 NDSU football team won the NC.
The 1986 NDSU football team won the NC.
The 1988 NDSU football team won the NC.
The 1990 NDSU football team won the NC.

The mud bowl game against Pittsburgh State was in 1994.

That sounds like the 1995 UNA team. Their biggest hurdle was boredom. With a College Football Hall of Fame MLB who is still the only defensive player to win the Harlan Hill Trophy and was a starting MLB in the NFL for nine of his ten seasons, three other NFL players, TEN All-Americas, a couple of D2 Hall of Famers, and a D2 Football Hall of Fame head coach, there was little doubt about how the season was going to go.

MLB Ronald McKinnon would go on to be the starting MLB for the Arizona Cardinals for eight of his nine years with the Cardinals and was the starting MLB for New Orleans in his last season. He piled up 700 career tackles with ten interceptions.

In 1997, as part of the 25th Anniversary of the creation of Division II, the 1995 UNA Football Team was selected as the Division II Team of the Quarter Century (1972-97).
The Lions went 14-0 in 1995 and capped a 41-1 three-year run that made this Lion group the only one in Division II history to win three straight national championships.
The Lions head coach, Bobby Wallace, was also chosen Division II Coach of the Quarter Century. This team is still the only D2 team invited to the White House.

In 1994 with basically the same team, UNA would suffer their only loss in 42 games. The Lions regular season game against Youngstown State received a lot of attention from the national media as a battle of defending National Champions. YSU was on it's way to it's second of two straight NCs and UNA would win their second NC in a row and add a third the next season. The game more than lived up to it's hype. It was a savage, hard-hitting game played in front of the largest crowd in YSU history until their stadium was expanded. UNA won the statistical battle but lost 17-14 on a last minute field goal by YSU.

kperk014
June 5th, 2017, 12:14 PM
Talent-wise UNA had the three most talented teams ever in D2 and maybe FCS history. The 2009, 2010 and 2011 teams were loaded with starters from Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Texas, Ole Miss, West Virginia, Pitt, Navy, North Carolina, NC State, Tennessee and Miami. Because Terry Bowden chose to shirk his duties as a coach, those team's played close to their potential maybe 3 or 4 times.

If Bobby Wallace had coached those teams he would have layed down the law immediately and booted a couple to make a point. If Bowden had done that there would have been three National Championships and a lot more of those players would have gone on to the NFL. Instead it was mostly a waste of talent and time.

Give me West Point over Annapolis any day. I'm not saying Annapolis isn't cool but I much rather spend a later summer, early fall Saturday on the banks of the Hudson. I'll be there for the Temple-Army game on October 21st (Lehigh bye week). That will mark my first trip to Michie since Temple played up there in 2010.

Is it really that tough to get to from eastern PA? I've always been headed from Baltimore or Alexandria, so Annapolis is easy. I'd think from PA you'd have your choice once you got to Wilmington. The Citadel did it again.
The Football Championship Subdivision Bulldogs sent South Carolina’s season from bad to much, much worse with a 23-22 victory in Williams-Brice Stadium on Saturday. It’s the first time the Gamecocks have lost to a lower division team since 1990, when The Citadel won 38-35. It’s the first time an SEC team has lost to an FCS team since Florida fell to Georgia Southern in 2013.
“I think this is a testament to what kind of kids I have the opportunity to coach,” Bulldogs head coach Mike Houston said. “You just beat an SEC East team at home, so I don’t know that they get any bigger than this for an FCS school.”

And Lehigh beat or tied Navy the last time they played iirc(damn cfbdatawarehouse for going belly up). Navy is a totally different animal since Paul Johnson turned the program around. You can't think or act without prejudice. Any unbiased observer would conclude Navy is far superior to The Citadel over the last decade.

Air Force is consistently tough. A close call 20+ years ago means nothing now. The Falcons like Navy blow The Citadel away.

The South Carolina team sucked so bad Spurrier quit on them. That Florida team wasnt much better. Navy and Air Force rarely if ever have fielded teams that bad the last 10-15 years. Those were Iowa State, or worse, level teams wearing SEC patches. The South Carolina team was truly horrific. Its a great win for the The Citadel but contextually it's like Maine's win over DOA Mississippi State team a few years ago.

The best of what? The G5? The bottom of the SEC? The MAC East? You want to test yourself against the best then play Alabama, Clemson, USC, Oklahoma, Ohio State and see how that turns out.

Colgate hasnt been competive in a FBS game in 14 years. You've failed your "tests" with flying colors. Its the definition of insanity. Colgate is FCS because they are inferior to FBS. They had their chance and gave up. Your football and players are second class in the college football world. Reality...

The only "best" anyone in FCS should be worrying about is NDSU and JMU.

Our history is playing up. Players love it, fan base expects it. I was at Colorado Springs, Annapolis and Syracuse 3 of the last 4 years, big alumni tournout, everybody had a great time. I've asked older players if they liked these games and the basic response is "I don't remember playing Lehigh/Bucknell/Lafayette in November, but walking onto the field at Army/Rutgers/Syracuse..."

The message board portion of my life became substantially more difficult when that site disappeared. I've had some success running through the internet wayback machine...doesn't work so well for the really recent stuff, but it'll get you the older data. I would also recommend making a local backup copy of your favorite team.

Actually, now that I think about it, maybe we could "crowdsource" some kind of replacement site (yes, I know I'm going off-thread on this). I'll have to do some thinking about how it could work and the best way to design the database.

That's fine but accept the fact you haven't been competitive in those games. Colgate players/football in general are vastly inferior to those players/programs. The scores clearly reflect that. I like laughing at you guys when you get thumped. I'll laugh at Lehigh when they get their butts kicked next year by Navy. Hell, the games 14 months away and I'm already making fun of Lehigh for how bad they're going to get blown out. Fordham got their Midshipmen mauling last year. Colgate at least has a chance this year to be competitive. If you get blown out by Buffalo then you really suck relative to the "best".

I also think it's hypocritical to want to schedule FBS teams but don't schedule D2 games. But whatever....

Texas Tech welched on our game next year in favor of a neutral site game against Ole Miss. Despite prior rumors, we are not currently confirmed to be playing Oklahoma State or any FBS program at this time...

...which is just as well, because our coaching staff has been building toward 2018 since they got here. It will be go time - whatever they accomplish then will probably be their ceiling, and since their contracts will be up after 2019, we'll know what to do. I am certain Stec is pushing the AD to keep a buy game off the schedule for that year, he may succeed simply due to lack of options.

http://www.fbschedules.com/2017/06/navy-midshipmen-open-2018-season-week-zero-lehigh/

This is good news for me personally, if I'm still living in the DC area in fall 2018. Previously, the Lehigh/Navy game was scheduled for the same day as the Temple/Maryland game in College Park, and because neither game would be viewed as a marquee game for TV purposes it is likely there would have been a full or partial schedule conflict. (I'm really not sure which game I would have chosen, and I know I would have regretted missing one of them.) Now that conflict is eliminated, and it also doesn't conflict with the U.S. Open to boot. (Hopefully Temple/Navy and Lehigh/Georgetown are also not on the same day in 2018, though if they are I'll choose Temple/Navy in that case.) The only bad thing is there is a decent chance it will be hotter than hell when they play that game in late August.

Annapolis is a pain in the butt to get to. I really had no desire to drive down there for the AAC Title game last year.

The issue with getting to Navy from northeastern PA is that you have to deal with traffic near Philadelphia, traffic near Baltimore, and/or various tolls, but if you use I-81, I-83, I-695, and I-97, the trip isn't bad (and has no tolls). The other reasonable alternative is to use I-476 and I-95 to US 301 in Delaware near Newark, and then drive down the Delmarva Peninsula on US 301. That's a nice, low traffic volume drive. You would need to use the Bay Bridge, which most people wouldn't like but I personally would like (love driving on the Bay Bridge on a nice, non-windy day that isn't a Friday or Sunday in the summertime; I just need to keep my eyes on the road and not on the bay).

Personally I think Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium is a great setting for a football game.

Owl perceptive in his FCS opinions. I tend to agree with him on scheduling at least to the extent of overscheduling FBS games. I am ,however , nonplussed by Lehigh' s apparent lack of any perceptible plan for schedules. After an initial surge of efforts with Cuse and PSU we have seemed to settle back to a very occasional meeting with PL mates Navy and Army. While I have no objection to getting them, I think every entering class should have 2 FBS games. The current mix of CAA Ivy and NEC has room over a 4 yr span to include a broader spectrum of games to include SoCon Big South MAC and FBS.

My guess is if you look at Syracuse's home game attendance figures at the end of the season, SU fans will be less enthusiastic about the Wagner game (i.e. lower attendance) than any other game on their schedule.

Probably true. But SU can't play every home game against a P5 or G5 program anyway. Going back to the earliest days of the Dome, they scheduled a winnable home game here and there. Hell, sometimes Colgate was the winnable home game, and they got the bonus of a decent attendance.

Syracuse playing Colgate makes sense because of the proximity of the schools. Syracuse playing Wagner doesn't make sense IMO.

FWIW, I've been part of multiple debates on a Temple board about which DI-AA/FCS schools the Owls should play. IMO, the only schools that make sense for Temple are Villanova and Delaware for sure (especially the former), Lehigh and Lafayette to a lesser degree, Penn and Princeton if Ivy League teams ever count towards bowl eligibility, and possibly Delaware State, Monmouth, and Bucknell. I personally think Temple shouldn't play any other FCS schools because none of the others make sense for them to play.

I'm inline with you when it comes to Temple's FCS games. I'd also add Fordham and Richmond (old A10 brethren) to logical opponents. The list is not long. Villanova and Delaware easily make the most sense. Temple's not the type of school that can get away with scheduling UT-Martin or Illinois State. The Philly college football market is extremely fickle. If they've never heard of the school they don't care.

Colgate is FCS because they are inferior to FBS. They had their chance and gave up. Your football and players are second class in the college football world. Reality...

sorry...i misread this. clearly it's a glowing compliment

I held back a severe verbal beating from this fan of yours waiting for one of you patsy league cucks to nut up and tell him where to go... STILL waiting...

How is stating the absolute truth somehow wrong? I honestly have no idea what you're taking offense to. Colgate as an FCS program is a step below FBS. That is an absolute fact. Recruiting, budget, red-shirting, scholarship limit, facilities, coaching salaries, attendance, on field performance etc is a step below their FBS counterparts. I'm sorry that offends you. It's just weird to me that you're taking exception to something that is an absolute fact.

Do you think it's offensive to say that D2 football is "inferior/aka a step below" FCS? I don't get up in arms when someone says the G5 is "beneath" the P5. Because it is...

Fellas, I like a good fight as much as anyone, and I was troubled by what Go Lehigh TU Owl said in that post, which is why I said very little after I saw it. However, I just want to say this.

I think of all of you - Go Lehigh TU Owl, Citdog, Carney2, Bonarae, Bogus Megapardus, EVERYONE - as friends with whom I share a great passion for FCS/I-AA football.

On occasion, we have had - and will have - our differences. But all this shouting back and forth is beneath the dignity of this board.

We all go to battle every day to take care of our families, our loved ones and ourselves. We strive and compete to be the best we can be. But this board should be a place of spirited relaxation where respect and courtesy prevail.

Anyway, it's in the past. Let's move on.

I'm here to talk football. You rarely see me on any other part of the message board especially the smack board and political one. Why? Because I try to stay away from the childish nonsense. I'm not here to deal with the constant trolling and homophobic taunts (Canoe U Homos??) Reallly?? Citdog represents himself, his school and AGS on THIS board because its open to public visitors. I simply don't get what a grown man gets out of the constant trolling/harassing of people on a FCS message board. It's extremely bizarre.

You know he's not going to stop because he simply can't. He has issues. He reminds me of "O'Doyle" from Billy Madion. So I'll dish it back to him yet respect others.

I get your mental tactics and your thought process. It's typical of someone with a military background. I've been around military as well as quasi military ones like yourself my whole life. You think you can talk as much ***** as you want because you feel most civilians need to be "mentally stronger" and let things roll of their back and focus on the big picture. They haven't been trained to deal with conflict in the manner you have. Or you think you have. You're like some barracks leader dbag and the people on AGS are the unfortunate audience to your act. Give up the schtick it's weak and hollow..

A le high guy doesn't like it when I comment on just how bad they are and how cute their little league is. I don't know how I will EVER recover from this disappointing letdown.

You went to The Citadel. You should know all about second rate. Home of the West Point rejects. If you went to West Point I'd have slightly more rest for you. But you clearly don't have the intelligence or the respect for that.
