You went to The Citadel. You should know all about second rate. Home of the West Point rejects. If you went to West Point I'd have slightly more rest for you. But you clearly don't have the intelligence or the respect for that.

HA! At least I attended the school that I root for on here. I understand though seeing as how temple is routinely one of the worst fbs in name only teams. I would have picked someone better than le high to root for but I guess you are just a glutton for punishment.

We've won the last two games against canoe u and split with hudson high. We have never defeated chair force but have played them tough several times out there and could have won at least one.

Ummm, actually we beat AF once. Keep up slick. 1976, 26-7. We are 1-3 overall against the AF. Came close two other times (90 and 97, 7-10 and 3-17). Got blown out once in 93 (0-35). So I guess no win as FCS, but we did beat them.

Shame the Army and Navy are afraid to schedule us again though. The win over Navy, in Charleston, back in 89 was sweet. I actually have the entire game on a VHS. It was broadcast and my father in law taped it. I really need to convert to digital. I also went to one of the wins over Army up in NY as I was stationed in upstate NY at the time.

Well, we're playing Oklahoma State next year after all. They have probably the best set of FBS fans I've met (UM-C and Arky fans are numbnuts and deserve each other) - laid back, polite and not intentionally arrogant. I also like the town of Stillwater, so I may have to head down for this one.

If they actually play the game, they could easily go triple figures on you with that offense.

I had a great experience in Fayettville. Hog fans invited us to tail gate with them. Also, they have some of the most outstanding screen names on these here innerweb fan sites. SirHogsalot, EddieVanHoglin, WizardofHogz, to name a few.

They may have good screen names, but Jesus Christ, I've never seen so much salt from a fan base. They complained about literally everything our baseball team did in the regionals this year, from the decisions our third base coach made to our players stepping out of the batting box and calling time, to our manager's press conferences, to our camo uniforms.

They hired said third base coach last week and still bitch and moan about him as a person. They are worse than UM-C fans - at least they understand for the most part that they suck.

I doubt it, they'll be breaking in a new offensive group for the most part, including a new QB.

Not to say that it will be close, but we played OSU under similar circumstances in 2014 and they only won by 17.

I have no clue and unfortunately have no connections in that area up there anymore since the regime change 1.5 years ago. I could be wrong, usually am, but I thought I remember this game (WIU) being a 1-time game scheduled after someone had a buyout or a cancellation - can't remember if it was "us" or "you..."

Oh ok. If that's the case then it's probably just a one-off. We had a lot of issues getting this year's schedule together, so I'm pretty sure it was us. Usually if the teams are roughly equal level like we are, it'll be a home & home so we each get a shot at ticket revenue and stuff. In this case it was probably a "we'll play at TTU, but you don't have to worry about a return game to Macomb or paying us any money". We just needed another D1 on the schedule that wouldn't cost a ton of $.

FYI - UL-L now calls themselves as "Louisiana" since several years ago. xpeacex

Their legal name is UL-Lafayette. The state legislature specifically forbids them from dropping the @Lafayette tag.

Much like the University of Arkansas at Fayettville. They like to call themselves the University of Arkansas yet they are a system with 13 other U of A schools. But whatever. They still suck no matter what they call themselves. Now ole Frank is dead maybe they will rid themselves of his horrible policy of NOT playing in-state schools. xlolx

Funny how it took Maryland spinning off University of Maryland University College (there attempt to compete with the U of Phoenixes) to start calling themselves University of Maryland College Park.

Only thing that worries me is this will be an excuse for them to jack up season tickets prices or Team Maker dues in 2018 and when they go back to 6 home games again in 2019 they'll probably leave those prices/fees in place.

Still it's a pretty good deal where I'm at to get 6 games for $215 including the Team Maker due so I won't get too worked up over a relatively small increase. The market dictates they could sell season tickets for a lot more than they do anyway.

Team Makers fees will continue to rise regardless, but at least we get 6-7 games a year! I can see them doing that as well (I don't pay fees, I just give cash to POD Knows or BF02 for unused ticket) and that sucks, but eventually I see tickets costing 60-100 a game plus TM fees. The only downside, is if this is a H-H (I think they are doing it to continue to tap 1-2 California recruits a year), which is what it sounds like, 2021 is the earliest as 2019 is booked with that Butler game, 2020 is a FBS game at Oregon, so NDSU is going to want another home game.

6 games is a must, but with how the schedule broke out, if they can get that 7th home game, why not?

With how bad they have been, they know they can sell tickets in 19, since Rocco will have turned the program around (this game was done before him just FYI), and getting NDSU out there, they know the Bison fans will show up, but more important than that, people will see NDSU and they will go to the game, for what should be a for sure Top 25 match-up early in the season. It is a win-win for both fanbases and hopefully UD's fans will come back and refill that stadium to its' glory days.

It's a guarantee game according to those who listened to The Insiders today (I'm sure it's up on soundcloud by now but I'm too lazy to go listen) so no return trip for the Cal Poly game in 2018 or the UC Davis game in 2019.

That is good to hear. Now that the FBS games are going to pick up in 2020, 2022, 2024, IMO, NDSU should be scheduling the following every 2 years:

-1 and done against payday teams.
-H-H against solid to premier teams (with the off year being the away game)
-FBS on the even year and 1 and done against payday teams on the off year.

Depends on what the guarantee is but I doubt they're paying more than what still allows them to turn a profit. I think the going rate based on what's been published the last few years has been in the $250K range (Charleston Southern got $350K in 2016 but I believe ESPN chipped in for that) but for a good opponent like Cal Poly that might be bumped up a bit.

Yeah, I know they're a perennial power in D2 but I see this year they're only 1-3 (although all 3 losses look to be to pretty good teams). Regardless, I think it's a good game... definitely a tougher game than most of our fans will probably give it credit for when they hear North Alabama is just transitioning to D1. NDSU's SID did say that they will be a D1 counter next year though so it's all good in my eyes.

A transitioning D2 team going to play a perennial FCS (1AA) team after the D2 team had a rough year. Doesn't sound familiar at all.

IIRC New Hampshire and Delaware did this back in 2004 or 2005 when they played each other in September in a game that did not count in the A-10 standings. Confusing, yes, but better for all than having to play a D-II game. Surprised this doesn't happen more among the Big Sky teams for two reasons 1) The only other DI football schools in the Big Sky footprint are San Diego, USD, SDSU and NDSU, limiting regional OOC options to DII and FBS. 2) The conference has now swelled to 14(?) teams with Idaho coming in, meaning that any given year, there will be 4-5 fellow conference members that will be off the schedule for each team.

So no Yale, apparently, but trips to UNH and W&M. Going to both in one year is tough, but maybe they make the return trip in 2019? Just one OOC home game, though given it's #100, I'll take it. Brutal stretch of road games there in Sept/Oct, but the worst part is opening with a League matchup (HC) and playing Lehigh in September.

Looks like Lehigh game is actually the last patriot league game of the year (FINALLY WHERE IT BELONGS AGAIN). There may have been a change (http://gocolgateraiders.com/documents/2017/4/13/Colgate_Future_Football_Schedules_2017_18.pdf?path =football) recently, not sure.

Regardless love the fact that the FBS game is at end of year. Also a fan of having ooc scattered throughout the schedule a little more rather than one after another leading up to conference play. Very realistic the '18 team could go 3-1 ooc (not counting ARMY game) with who they have coming back.

That Maine schedule is a disaster. Only 4 home games, none in September. Apparently opening the season with UNH is a thing that will continue, which is ridiculous. Over a month between the Thursday night (???) UNH game and the next home game. Closing the season with traditional rival.... Elon. Eh...most of our fans don't even show up when it's only a 6 minute walk away, so it doesn't really matter too much to us where we play.

Here's our drives this season:
Cookeville, TN - 8 hours, 10 minutes
Flagstaff, AZ - 21 hours, 15 minutes
Conway, SC - 15 hours, 45 minutes
Cedar Falls, IA - 3 hours, 20 minutes
Fargo, ND - 9 hours, 45 minutes
Normal, IL - 2 hours
Terre Haute, IN - 4 hours

We do/did have 3 of the 7 at 4 hours or closer, so that's something, I guess.

This means our OOC schedule is: @ Montana State, @ Illinois, vs Montana
Not a huge fan of the fact that our first home game isn't until mid-September, but it's better than this year.

As for strength of schedule...

Here's what I know about WIU's schedule at this point:

8/30 (Thursday) - at Montana State (Big Sky)
9/8 - at Illinois (FBS, Big 10)
9/15 - vs Montana (Big Sky)
9/22 - TBD (I would guess bye week, not official currently)
9/29 - Homecoming (opponent TBD, should be either INSU, UNI, or YSU)
10/6 - at Illinois State
10/13 - vs North Dakota State
10/20 - TBD (either INSU or @MSU)
10/27 - TBD (INSU, @MSU, or YSU)
11/3 - TBD (probably @SIU)
11/10 - at South Dakota
11/17 - TBD (Last week of the regular season, probably INSU, @MSU or UNI)

Do not play - South Dakota State

The MVFC teams that have released their schedules for 2018 are ILSU, NDSU, and USD. From that I've extrapolated who we essentially can't play in the various unknown weekends.
My copy of the full MVFC schedule (as much as I know of it) is viewable here. (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/e/2PACX-1vQhPX-V5qFn67f87s5R4MXsVzzbE6889Sp7A5xzCDvgO5XoLuYUOmUk_ zImZ3z0JPAbtCeRvvIm1iug/pubhtml?gid=2087298490&single=true)

That's a pretty good schedule. Lincoln University is a cupcake win but a solid payday game against a beatable MAC opponent. And Columbia is vastly improved so if they can go 2-1 in their 3 FCS non league games they have a legit chance at winning 8+ games this season.

I love when other teams put others down idiotically. It doesn't really matter, but it makes me wonder if they even know what it takes to transition. Usually those types of individuals don't really care though. We play an ex DII conference opponent in 2018. I wish it wasn't so, but I am still going to show them respect for the years we played and enjoy the game.

Nice all FCS schedule for Northern Colorado. Southland and MVFC out of conference (and Sac State). But - Bye for their last opponent...

They screwed UNC with the last week bye this year. UND had it the last two years, so stupid. Zero time off to recover from injuries during season.

Who is running the scheduling show in Cullowhee?

Sitting here in January, it looks like WCU could easily be undefeated heading into Greenville in late September.

As a Furman fan, the schedule is a little worrisome. WCU can probably spend weeks preparing for Furman as they will simply be able to out athlete their first three opponents (plus a bye week). Furman has a much tougher go of it those first four weeks.

With WCU/Furman and Mercer playing Samford/Citadel, those are some big SoCon games out of the way in September.

Rumor is we had a FCS team drop from our schedule and we had to pick up Newberry as a replacement.

I do believe the SoCon makes the conference schedule. So, blame them for any "favoritism". Although I can't see how we're getting any of that with Samford and Furman back to back then The Citadel and Wofford back to back. Not to mention our bye week being so early in the season. The individual schools then work on their OOC schedules.

I am not arguing that there is any favoritism. The early bye just seems avoidable. I know the SoCon does what it can to schedule around the OOC games, so we will always get somewhat unbalanced schedules.

I don't see any issue with how it lines up. I think it probably works as an advantage and disadvantage to both teams. WCU gets some easier opponents leading up to Furman, but Furman is also going to be playing better competition. That WCU/Furman game is probably the first time WCU will have seen a "good" team, so they may need to quickly adjust. Furman is going to be a lot bigger, faster, and stronger than their other opponents to that point.

Furman benefits from the schedule the next week, though. We get a bye week before playing Wofford, which would bug me as a Terrier fan. The option is much easier to stop when you have a chance to prepare for it.

Helps with our record, but it was pretty obvious that starting the season with 3 away games and a bye week and only having 4 home games is not a recipe for good home attendance.

That said, I can't blame you for wanting more home games for attendance purposes and to see your team play. I know BisoNation would lose their **** and Bisonville would erupt in flames if NDSU did not have 6 home games a season.

Yep. That’s it.

The game @ rice is televised w/ a regional carrier.

Our first 4 games are OOC and impacting until the conf office allowed us to move our current traditional IC game vs sTu on LDWE to end of year. We have to play w/ the cards we are dealt.

I assume we’re the only team in the country still without a schedule for this year? xlolx
With our previous AD and coach, it seemed we never got the schedule until early summer. Now we have both the 2018 and 2019 schedules released.

I have heard that a lot of PC football players have left the team after their announcement of their move to the Pioneer League. I wonder if this change is to avoid at Georgia Tech-Cumberland style blowout, or if PC is no longer a "counter?"

I realize things can come up and leave a team looking for a last minute replacement but why does Samford, a good team, keep playing D2 schools. Samford is one of the better teams in the SoCon and we need them to play a better OOC schedule IMO.

We played Shorter a couple of years ago when we had a team back out of a commitment last minute and they were without a doubt the worst college football team I have ever seen.

Yes.
Unfortunately, you're probably right.

But while impressed with what their coach has done with the program last year, they had zero quality wins ... zero. They barely beat most of the average and even the weakest teams on their 49th ranked SOS. Massey Composite had them 36th. They should not have been in the playoff discussion.

That they could go 9-2 against this 2018 schedule should be no guarantee of a playoff bid .. their SOS will probably rank in 60's or 70's next season. Now if they win by nice margins against average teams and blow out most of the weak teams .. then they will be deserving.

I was amazed the committee had them on the bubble. ISUr was far more deserving at 6-5 against a #12 SOS .. clearly a 1 game difference in record can be easily explained by difference in SOS (12 vs 49) ... but I didn't expect a bid or to even be on the bubble.

Not a hard concept, if you play a weak schedule ... you need to win most games by impressive margins. Good story for APU last year, but that doesn't mean they deserved playoff bid.

yes, but still MEAC plays 8 Conf. games.....so, one of the two (FAMU, or Norf. State) should be the 8th conf. game, right? One of those two had to be penciled in months ago....

Easily the strangest schedule in Division I, or the only one with a I-A school (Florida) and a non-NCAA school which is/was on its "non-countable" list (VU-Lynchburg)

Wow 2 FBS games they aren't worried about missing the playoffs with a possible 7-4 record if they lost to both Tulane and Kansas???

They aren't even D2 they are NAIA which means that game definitely won't help if NC Central finishes 2nd in the MEAC and is hoping for a playoff berth with only 8 FCS games on the schedule

Austin Peay @ Georgia 9/1/18

Presbyterian vs Austin Peay 9/8/18

Austin Peay at Morehead St 9/15/18*

Austin Peay @ TN-Martin 9-22/18*

Austin Peay @ Jacksonville St 9/28/18*

TN-State vs Austin Peay 10/6/18*

APSU@ SEMO 10/13/18*

TN Tech vs APSU 10/27/18*

EKU vs APSU 11/3/18*

APSU @EIU 11/10/18*

Murray St vs APSU 11/17/18*

*OVC games I see either us going 10-1 or 9-2 depending on how the JSU game goes and I see us having no chance at beating Georgia at all. If we do win that game and lose to JSU I’d cry. I’ll be making the EIU game though so that’ll be fun

Before I left for my bee pollination, the local radio station that covers Bison athletics had a football "insider" on the program. He follows Bison football and he broke down the '18 schedule and thought the Bison had a very good chance of going undefeated during the regular season. He didn't think any team in the OOC schedule posed a real threat to the Bison and the conference might have some teams that take a step back.

Should be interesting this year. The Bison have a ton coming back and if they can have a year where there are not so many season ending injuries then look out. #7 looks pretty promising.

Agreed. I wish they could get away from the D-II home games, but I think this will be the case until the NEC can add another team.

A very good schedule for the Red Flash. 2 CAA teams, a Patriot and a MEAC opponent easily offset the D-II. A 3-2 record would be a nice accomplishment this season.

NEC expansion would require 1 less non-conference game, but it is still harder for SFU to get home games than say Sacred Heart because of the location.

Fairfield, Conn. is directly off I-95 whereas Loretto is far from everywhere. Not going to be many FCS program willing to bus out there ;)

This is very true ... and I'm still trying to find out how in the world they got Towson to come to Loretto last year.
