My National Awards Watch- Payton, Buchanan, Rice

I decided to go with just 22 for each but I know STATS will has more than this. This is based on what I have seen and feedback from those I trust around the country. I also made sure to have every conference represented. I feel like any one of several could win on both sides. I am going to be interested to see how much film voters watch because Allen at TSU would be the run away winner but 2 of his monster games came against really low level of comp and if you remove those then his numbers don't stand out above others.

CB Aaron Sears, SFA 55 TKL, 1.5 TFL, 3 PBU in 8 games

Sears made the Jerry Rice list playing in fewer games, and didn't start until the 4th game, very impressive with 10 TKL against Austin Peay, season high 15 TKL at Central Arkansas, and 11 TKL against Abilene Christian.

I always wonder about CB tackles. How many were made after the CB was beaten and the guy he was suppose to cover made the catch.

That can happen a lot. You have to watch film on a case by case basis but there are definitely situations where I have seen the CB and thought they just got tackles because they are giving up a lot of completions and just preventing run after catch.

I was surprised that Alex Gubner from Montana wasn't included as a Buchanan finalist.

Same here but I will say that I thought the Weber State LB was going to be named Big Sky DEF POY.

Obviously I'm biased, and was happy Gubner won, but you can certainly make a case for Reid.

    Clarification...If I'm wrong, correct me....but is it....

Peyton - top overall player (regardless of side of the ball)? Like the Heisman of FCS?

    Buchannan - Top Defensive player.

    Rice - Top Offensive player.
I STILL HATE MARSHALL! Every time I see that movie, I root for Xavier!!!!!!!

Jerry Rice is top freshman. I think Walter Payton is just best offensive player.
