How in the **** can NDSU add 31 athletes? I know some could be walk ons or preferred walk ons but Jesus Christ it’s a 63 scholarship limit.

FCS can split scholarships...maybe they're all just getting like 1/4 scholarship for now.

It’s 63 equivalencies, 85 total. It’s easy to get to 31 if you have a large senior class and/or lose some to the portal or early departure.

I think they're anticipating a few shoes to drop in terms of roster attrition once this season is over. They only had about 10 guys go through Senior Day recognition meaning the other 10 or so seniors on the roster are planning to use their free COVID year and come back next year (maybe with NDSU or elsewhere). They also have 114 players on the roster right now so there's no way they can add 31 incoming freshmen while staying under the max roster size without some attrition.

Not a UNI fan but I know McElvain won a QB battle prior the 2019 season and put together a pretty good season both throwing and running. He pretty much was their offense as their run game as anemic and his best receiver Isaiah Weston was injured off and on. Led them to the quarterfinals that fall. Then this past spring it seemed like he took a step backwards... from what I saw he looked uncomfortable throwing from the pocket and had accuracy issues. He retained the starting position heading into this fall and led them to a nice showing vs Iowa St but was benched the next week at Sac St for Theo Day. He entered the transfer portal shortly thereafter which I think kinda left a bad taste in UNI fans mouths. Had he stuck around he likely would've had a chance to play in the playoffs vs EWU when Day got hurt.

So bottom line is I think he's a solid FCS QB who has above average mobility but below average accuracy and throwing ability.

Thanks for that info. UCA lost Breylin Smith to injury and he likely isn't coming back anyway. Two of our QBs transferred out and left us ONE QB...a freshman...who is really talented but zero experience in college. Hope to see another qb I believe from Texas sign in February but we'll see. Looks like coach stocked up on defense though.

Threw a little shade at UNI on his way out the door, didn’t he?
