Fun with stats: Winning Percentage 2000-2007

Someone over at PantherNation pondered how UNI's winning percentage over the past decade or so stacked up against the rest of the FCS.

So with the help of some data from www.cfbdatawarehouse.com (and some spreadsheet formatting), I compiled this list.

I'm not sure exactly how the "win % points" is derived, but it does correspond somehow with the overall winning percentage of the teams in the past 8 seasons.

And I included the "schedule points" data as a reference to each teams "Strength of Schedule", with a higher number indicating a tougher schedule in the past 8 seasons (as computed by cfbdw)

    Code:
    Winning Percentage: 2000 through 2007

     	                	Win %	Schedule
    Rank	Team Points Points

Update: It's come to my attention that for some reason, McNeese State was left out of the rankings in the database that I pulled my info from. Their winning percentage since 2000 is (.695), which places them at #15 on this chart, between Coastal Carolina (.696) and Colgate (.681).

Where's McNeese? I'm not sure what these numbers represent, but McNeese is 66-29 during this stretch, so I'm sure they belong on the list, probably pretty close to the top.

The site provided data for the top 125 winning percentages in all of division I, and I removed the FBS teams, which left the top 54 FCS teams.

Not sure how it works with transitioning teams. They still had Western Kentucky listed as I-AA. As well as NDSU and SDSU listed as D2.

For some reason, the site lists McNeese as "Not Yet Ranked in Decade Rankings", though I'm not sure why not.

McNeese ranks #15 in win percentage since 2000, between Coastal Carolina and Colgate. I'll edit the post.

hmm, I wonder how many other schools were left out.

This list, while possibly fun to study, does nothing to validate success. As a Philadelphia Eagles fan, I can relate to the plight of UNI. The Eagles had one of the best winning percentages (if not the best) in the NFL from 2000-2005 and absolutely no silver trophies with the football on top. If you extend this over the past 45 years, same story: good overall record, no bling. Hardware is all that really matters. Don't kid yourself.

Thumbs up Re: Fun with stats: Winning Percentage 2000-2007

Dayton just knows how to win football games, year after year after year! Hats off to Mike Kelly. In all of this winning, Dayton has sent a grand total of ZERO players to the NFL. This makes what future Hall of Fame coach Mike Kelly accomplished even more impressive. There has never been a better coach for getting the absolute most out of his TEAM than Mike Kelly!

So by your standards, only one team in FCS football has a successful season each year?

and Delaware has only had one successful season in it's history?
