Stat Preview #4 = Gateway Conference

Every Sunday look for new posting of a conference comparison.
This is a thumbnail compilation of final stats and subtracting those
of roster departures due to graduation, eligibility, etc. Should
provide a quick sketch of returning talent vs conference foes.

RYPG = 2007 rushing yards per game
PYPG = 2007 passing yards per game
SR-RB = subtracted yards per game for roster departures
    SR-QB = ditto
    SR-WR = ditto
SR-OL = equivalent number of off-linemen departed based on
.. number of games played, not including long snappers if known
SR-D = percentage of defensive talent departed based on top 15 tacklers

    HTML Code:
    ###	RYPG	SR-RB	PYPG	SR-QB	SR-WR	SR-OL	SR-D
    IlSt	199.5	96.1	203.4	202.0	68.2	2.91	40%
    InSt	138.4	72.1	124.3	67.6	98.9	1.64	29%

They might beat someone, but probably not in conference.

Thumbs down Re: Stat Preview #4 = Gateway Conference

Apparently, one has to get in line to dump on this kind of thread.
How silly of me to think there are any well-reasoned, intelligent
football fans out there who would like a few stats to look at during
the long off-season. It must be so very tedious to all of you
having to respond to every thread you find uninteresting and being
compelled to vent your negative bile.

I aim myself toward factual information and ANYthing pertinent
to the happenings of college football, great sport that it is.
It has been a past pleasure to take part of some of the best football
conversation going on the Internet, and am grateful for much of
the valuable information I have found.

Call me thin-skinned I guess, but I don't care for your negative
garbage anymore. I am through visiting this site if this is the
best you guys can do. Seems to be the domain of over-zealous
fans and single-minded patrons anyway. Tell THEM to get a life.

Put your computers to some quality use and look up some of the
bigger words you don't understand. And those who are entrusted
with a vote in the forthcoming elections and like the immature smack,
well I fear for our future, assuming you know how to read a ballot.

Lotsa luck to the remaining courteous and serious AGS members.

Keeper, you know I enjoy ALL your contributions. Some folks are still getting used to the fact that on AGS you don't personally insult other members, you don't smack on the Discussion board, and the Discussion board is for reasoned discussion.

I'm sure skinny_uncle didn't mean any harm but the smack and personal jab were out of line and not what you can regularly expect here, on this board at least. Just report it (click the red x) and ignore it. Most of all stick around. The Great West is next right?

I also enjoy your stuff, Keeper. Let the "skinny" minds do their thing, and you do yours.

As far as this thread goes, UNI stands out as needing quite a few new guys to step up this year. Some good QBs are also gone from the Gateway this year, with five starters departing.

As an user of statistics, it's fun to see some one try to get useful information out there.

    Help me understand these figures....

I'll use SDSU, as I am most familiar with them.

In rushing last year Jacks averaged 165.8 yards per game. Of those 165.8 yards, 119.4 yards were carried by departing seniors, so only 46.4 yards are returning.
In passing, Jacks averaged 196 yards per game, and Jacks lost sparingly used back-up qb, who averaged 2.4 yards passing per game. And of the 196 yards receiving, 68 yards went to wide receivers who's eligibility is done.

Are there 5 equivalents total for the offensive line? This is the number of offensive plays per game divided by the people on the line (tackles, guards, centers), so if an offensive player played every offensive play of every game, that equals 1? If this is the case, UNI is bringing back virtually no offensive line.

And using a round number of tackles for the season as 1000, 400 tackles by SDSU defense were by seniors who graduated (used up eligibility)?

Addressing these questions will assist me in better understanding what you've provided.

    Thanks!

Very cool Keeper. I've actually looked at a Discussion Forum thread twice in 5 years on this site, and this was one of em.

UNI is fine. Returning stats don't mean a whole lot.
