  • Conference playoff records this spring: CAA (4-0), Southland (2-0), OVC (1-1); MVFC (5-4); Patriot (0-1); Pioneer (0-1); NEC (0-1); Big South (0-1); Southern (0-1); Big Sky (0-2).
  • Only 6 FCS players were taken in the NFL Draft this year, highlighted by NDSU QB Trey Lance, who was taken third overall by the San Francisco 49ers

Despite low draft numbers this year (6) and last (6 in 2019), the number of FCS players on NFL rosters has not altered much --- with more than 210 FCS players on NFL Opening Day rosters in each of the past 3 seasons.

  • CAA IMPROVES TO 4-0 IN FCS PLAYOFFS: CAA Football improved to 4-0 in the FCS playoffs after Delaware earned a 20-14 road win at Jacksonville State and James Madison defeated North Dakota, 34-21, in the quarterfinals last Sunday. The Blue Hens scored TD's on their first two drives and then locked down defensively, limiting JSU to eight first downs and 200 total yards. UD's Nolan Henderson threw for 239 yards, with Gene Coleman making 10 catches for 129 yards. The Dukes rolled up 468 yards of offense vs. UND as Cole Johnson was 14-of-17 for a career-high 251 yards and 2 TD's, Percy Agyei-Obese ran for 128 yards and 2 TD's and Antwane Wells caught 7 passes for 143 yards and 2 TD's.
  • TWO IN THE SEMIFINALS: CAA Football has two teams in the semifinals of the FCS playoffs for the first time since 2013. Delaware is making its first trip to the semifinals since 2010, while JMU advanced to the semifinals for the fourth time in the past five years.
  • CAA CONTINUES SEMIFINAL STREAK: CAA Football has had a team advance to the semifinals of the FCS playoffs in each of the past eight years - Towson (2013), New Hampshire (2014), Richmond (2015), JMU (2016, 2017, 2019, 2020), Maine (2018) and Delaware (2020) - and 28 semifinalists overall. CAA teams are 12-14 all-time in semifinal contests.

  • The Missouri Valley Football Conference is 108-59 during the past 23+ years in the FCS playoffs (since 1997). That includes 15 intra-conference matchups, meaning the league is 93-44 (.679) against teams from other leagues.
  • The MVFC is 72-32 (.692) since 2010 in the playoffs -- which includes 13 intra-conference games (meaning the league is 59-19 against teams from other leagues.) Only one other league has a winning record in the playoffs since 2010 (CAA Football is 48-39.)
  • The MVFC has 10 total titles, the most by an FCS league.

  • The Southland was the only FCS conference to play all of its games this spring without any cancellations or rescheduled games due to COVID.
  • SHSU is hosting an FCS Semifinal game for the first time since 2011 (31-28 win vs. Montana).
  • The Bearkats aim to stay perfect in FCS Playoff matchups at Bowers Stadium (15-0).
  • Sam Houston led the seven spring season participants with 22 all-conference selections, headlined by Player of the Year Eric Schmid and Newcomer of the Year Jequez Ezzard. Head man K.C. Keeler garnered Coach of the Year honors. Defensive lineman Jahari Kay was one of three Stats Perform Buck Buchanan Award finalists for the Southland Conference, the most by any league.
