The Big Ten Conference won't be holding a football season in Fall 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but there appears to be potential for one of the league's members to still take the field at least once before the calendars flip to 2021. According to a report from The Forum of Fargo-Moorhead, Nebraska and FCS power North Dakota State have been in talks about potentially playing a non-conference game in Lincoln, Nebraska this fall, per NDSU athletic director Matt Larsen.
The rumblings of a potential Huskers-Bison matchup come just a day after the Big Ten Conference, which Nebraska has been a member of since the 2011 season, made the decision to cancel its Fall 2020 football season, with hopes of playing its reduced conference-only schedule in Spring 2021. Nebraska leadership, however, expressed disappointment in the conference's decision in a joint statement, and head coach Scott Frost, on Monday, even entertained the possibility of the Huskers seeking alternative routes to playing football in the coming months if the Big Ten opted to punt on the fall.
