Griz offense looks solid. Spring drills complete

    Final Spring scrimmage was today.

Griz Offense did well in the three scrimmages which by the way had blitzing allowed in all three.

Total Griz offensive stats for the 3 scrimmages. Against the 2006 Big Sky's best Defense with almost the entire Defense returning. Our top RB Hilliard was held out and 2 of our top 3 WR's are injured, Chambers and Bagley. All three missed the 3 scrimmages.

    Total Plays 164
    Total Yards 1051
    Passing 48-64-0 592 yards, 6TD's, 75% Comp. (w/no int's!)
    Rushing 94 carries, 459 yards, 4.88 ypc, 8 TD's

Dan Carpenter had 4 FG's for the 3 scrimmages. Punter Tyson Johnson looks very strong and averaged almost 45 yards a punt.

Here is the story on the final scrimmage.

Also to note, SR basketball player (SF/SG) is attempting to make the football team. I did not see him play, but word is he has a ton of potential, and just may stick. He caught a TD pass in the last scrimmage. Griz starting WR, ERIC ALLEN has been working with and coaching Mayes. If Mayes turns out to be the real deal he would join Allen, Bagley, and Chambers over 6'2". TE's Beaudin, Pfahler, and Overton all over 6'2" too. Red zone struggles should be all but over in 07!

Stuart Mayes, most recently a forward on the Griz basketball team, had a 22-yard scoring reception on a pass from Larson.

He has been through alot in his time at Montana. He had to sort out a few things in life. Once he did so, he has been a huge asset to the GRIZ on and off the court. As his playing time increased this year, the team defense got much better. His defense was due to his athleticism. Personally, I feel he is a feel good story. I am pulling for him. It would be a great story on and off the field if he can do this. Myself, I would look forward to having Mayes as part of Montana athletics for another year. Good luck STU, this GRIZ fan is pulling for you (on and off the field).

Yes. The Griz move their last spring scrimmage around each year to different parts of the state.

    Interesting.

I suppose it's a thing to do when the state doesn't really have a major city, rather a bunch of smaller regional centers.
