NDSU 39 UCA 28
4th 01:51 NDS - Luepke,Hunter 13 yd run (Reinholz,Jake kick), 9 plays, 67 yards, TOP 03:51
NDSU 25, YSU 7
Ouch. NDSU is not the same without Lance. What team ever is unless they bring in another beast of a QB. I would have LOVED to play the Bison with the team that played YSU but if it took until 1:51 left in the fourth quarter for the Bison to put away the Bears with him then I'm pretty happy. We know what we have to work up to....xthumbsupx Life goals...xlolx
It is a whole different world out there but here is some food for thought:
Some fans will try to discredit TSU by downgrading New Mexico State. NMSU was favored by 6 points and were expected to cover the line by most services. The juniors on this team have beaten Alcorn State, Liberty, UTEP three consecutive years, Texas State, New Mexico, Ga. Southern, Idaho, South Alabama, etc. They went to a bowl game three years ago and beat Idaho State. They are no means a power, but they are in the South Alabama, Texas State, ULM, Ga. State level of the Sun Belt
Big congrats to Tarleton — any FBS win is a good win — but NM State is not on the same level of any Sun Belt team not named ULM. Maybe in past years but not the team they ran out there yesterday. I know they lost several guys to the transfer portal, on the D-line specifically, and won't be able to replace them until signees are eligible in the fall. Again, Tarleton played well — this has nothing to do with them and not trying to diminish what they accomplished; but let's not make NM State out to be something they're not.
Yeah, NMSU wasn’t and still isn’t Sunbelt level football. Even comparing them to ULM...going back to 2014, they never beat them. Texas State and Idaho were their only regular competition in conference play. They also did have a year where they went 7-6 overall and 4-4 in the Sunbelt, which included the aforementioned Texas State and Idaho, along with perennial underachiever South Alabama, and (drumroll) their only win against a surprisingly bad 0-5 Georgia Southern and with their dead man walking coach (btw, Tyson Summers got fired again this year if anyone’s interested).
Tarleton played well and deserves all the credit for the beat down they gave them. This NMSU beat what looks to be a good Alcorn State the last couple of years. I don’t know what their current roster situation is, but it doesn’t matter because it all highlights why NMSU got kicked out of the SBC and why it really needs to needs to leave FBS in general. Dixie State might do the same thing to them.
Oh they’ve been a dumpster fire for years. They’ve had 1 winning season since 2014 and went 10-22 in 4 years in the Sunbelt. That 1 winning season they didn’t play a single competent team. In fact...between 2014-2018, they beat 1 FBS team with a winning record.
