For anyone watching this game. That was the worst 2 minutes ever by UNH football. That was so bad

14-6 UNH at the half because of it

yeah not a good end. decker underthrows orlando, missed fg and bad coverage. Only good part was they missed wide open guy on 2 pt conversion.

3rd and 1 at the 2, they get the first but are called for a hold. On 3rd and 11, Decker misses a wide open Orlando. Then they miss the field goal. While URI is trying to run out the clock, UNH calls a time out to try to get the ball back. On the next run, UNH is called for a facemask, which puts the ball at midfield. 2 plays later, URI throws a bomb downfield and scores a TD off a terrible missed tackle. All with less than a minute and a half left. Instead of 21-0 at the half, its 14-6 (uri missed the XP)

URI throws a bomb downfield and scores a TD off a terrible missed tackle. Not quite sure what houston and asam were doing on that play. Oh well good 2cd half and it won't matter

Mattymc727

A TD to start the half would be nice. UNH offense is really moving at will, as usual

Plays like that will keep us out of playoffs. or cause another early exit. dumb football.

Terrible throw by Decker into double coverage. It is picked off. URI touchdown. This UNH team isnt even close to a title contender. Im sure URI is a decent team, but not a playoff team. My hopes and dreams have just fizzled out

Why would UNH not offer Zocco...the best player in the state? He might be our starting SS. Or LB. Do not understand why with so few scholarship players we let one get away that wanted to play here.

Mattymc727

Mattymc727
October 29th, 2011, 01:42 PM
Decker really needs to stop doing those last second desperation passes on the run to receivers that are not open. We were lucky to get a FG out of that. UNH up 31-24

I dont think this UNH team is that good. We are about to find out though with the toughest stretch of the schedule coming up.

I'm not big on style points, but I think you are right. They will need to win at least 2 of 3 to make the playoffs. I just don't see this team getting in at 7-4 without a lot of help from other teams.

I guess one positive is they do still control their own destiny for the autobid, if they can somehow figure out how to stop someone defensively.

I thought the defense was progressing too. However, it took a step back today. Not sure if the URI offense is that good or not, but UNH made that new QB look very good.

While the defense isn't ideal, we must all agree that it is much better then it was when the season kicked off on September 1st, no? I feel that they keep getting better and we are fortunate to have one of the best offenses in the country. The problem I have is with #1. He should not be the main back, he fumbles too much. Just when I thought he had figured it out, he did it again. I cannot stand that kind of problem, its the worst to have. Protect the damn ball!

Now while we may not be all we are cracked up to be as a full football team, isn't it fair to question if Towson and or Maine are as good as their record shows? I think we will win the JMU game next week, and I would not be surprised if we were to win out! However, I would also not be surprised if we lost out lol. So, it really comes down to protecting the rock so to speak...

I agree on Peters, I think he is highly overrated. I wish he was a senior. Steriti is the future at HB. Im not why they love Peters so much, he isnt even that fast. In regards to the offense, it is very good, but I dont think it is good enough to beat some of the top teams (W&M basically drew up blueprints on how to stop it). The defense is just not playoff material. I think we get into the playoffs but duck out early again. Shame

I definitely agree with you on the question of Steriti vs.Peters.I think Sean has his favorites so to speak, and he has a tendency to stick with someone who has been a starter come hell or high water.

It was the reason Toman started last year too. However, I think its important as a coach, so players will believe in the system. Otherwise we would see a lot more transfer out.

remember that URI's QB Bentson is completing 70% of his passes including against a Delaware defense that we would say is better than ours. We only gave up 24 pts today and 10 of those are on the offense and URI put up 38 pts last week against delaware. Our defense is not as good as last year, but they are improving

I would agree that our defense is much improved from our first couple of games. We were a holding call away from going into halftime 21-0. I think that hold changed the way the game would have looked. Then with 2 consecutive turnovers to start the 2nd half. Its hard to place all the fault on the defense.

I think sloppy play by UNH as a whole was the cause for the game to end like it did. However, as a whole, this defense is not going to get us far in the playoffs. They dont tackle, the DB's play too far off the receivers, and the Dline isnt going to stop good rushing teams like Wofford or GSU or others

In general i would agree, but if the D can hold teams to 24pts or less, i will take my chances that we will score more

Just a couple notes;

Agree with those commenting on Steriti...no idea why he doesn't play more. He's been more effective and hasn't had the fumbling problems of Dontra or Setian, both of whom fumbled today. Setian was largely ineffective today (but Peters was highly effective) so I'm not sure why we saw so little of Nico.

Without sounding highly critical, Decker needs to stand in the pocket and give his WR a chance to get open. He's got happy feet back there and within seconds he's sprinting out of the backfield. He made some super plays today, but he can do more with his arm and he needs to give that a shot before running so much.

Win's a win, though .. we weren't horrible today, but URI was pretty good. They're probably a bit better than they're record, and I don't think we're as good as ours, but just need to get there. Huge test next week, obviously.

Wren, I disagree with you about Setian. His role is much more than running the ball. he is a big reason why the running game has come alive the past 2 weeks. His lead blocking for Peters has opened some great holes. he also is GREAT at blitz pick up. He needs to keep playing in that "H" back role. yes, he and Peters need to stop fumbling, but Steriti has had fumblitis as well.

I agree about Decker, he has gotten happy feet and there are times were he can step up in the pocket. he did do that nicely on the long pass to Cullen. All in all they have become a much more balanced offense and that bodes well in this stretch run. As much as we do not like these close games, they will serve them well during this stretch of games
