Surprising...

What was the impetus for this? Did RMU have a very active message board that evolved into the Rivals site?

Very active blog site called Colonials Corner who's writer wrote for Rivals.com. I believe the opportunity presented itself and he took his blog to rivals and now its only their site.
Very excited about it.

Andrew does some great stuff covering RMU. He also does freelance work for some Pittsburgh newspapers, right?

I'm sure this is good for him, but personally I would have kept his own site. Is there a subscription fee? IMO - Rivals.com sites don't offer much for small FCS or mid/low-major hoops programs. I think their sites are cluttered and messy, and quality content for our level is virtiually non-existant. Now if he gets paid for submitting content to Rivals, then its good for him, but personally I think he should have just added a message board to his Colonials website. IMO - it was one of the best blogs out there at this level and a great thing for the NEC.

Now the NEC will have just 2 team blogs from media :
CCSU (Matt Straub, New Britain Hearld) http://blogcentralnb.blogspot.com/
Monmouth (Tony Grahm, Asbury Park Press) http://blogs.app.com/hawks/

There will be a balance of both free and subscription articles, as well as both free and subscriber-only message boards.

The old set-up was antiquated. Now it's a chance to interact a lot more while being able to provide even more coverage. Robert Morris' football team is struggling, but they're part of a conference on the rise.

Plus, the basketball team continues to climb new heights, and we'll be doing a lot of hockey coverage as well.

Nothing really changes about the coverage - other than there is more of it and some of it will be for subscribers only. Newspapers are beginning to follow the same model.

I encourage everyone to stop by. I don't want to take away from any other sites or communities, but we're welcoming all NEC fans and fans of NEC opponents.
