Is this thread really necessary? xeyebrowx If Sam had no problem with UCA and UCA had a problem with Nicholls....you get the picture. xlolx

But if there is an upset.... xrotatehx

Here let me preview that game:

Nicholls loses the toss. Sam defers. Fans leave due to boredom. ( oh wait, that's at UCA xlolx...sorry :o )

Halftime score Sam 31 Nicholls 3

Final Sam 48 Nicholls 10

I think the UCA v. McNeese Red Beans and Rice bowl will be MUCH more interesting up until kickoff. xlolx

SHSU is favored by 30+ per Sagarin...

Either way, this is an important game. We can't sleep on Nicholls because beating them is very important, particularly with the BIG game against McNeese looming around the corner on Oct. 22. It is critical SHSU takes care of business, because I think we need four wins in our final six to really insure a postseason bid.

I've put the MAGIC NUMBER at 4. Got to keep winning!

Just favored by 30? xlolx Is that all. I'll take a piece of that! xlolx

Sam's defense will devastate Nicholls. Nicholls offense will devestate Nicholls. xnodxxlolx

That made me laugh out loud.

On a serious note, I agree with Terror. This game is an obvious trap game. Have to take care of business and not look ahead to McNeese.

How is it a trap game? I'm hoping you lose this one...for the Bear's sake.xlolx

Game after playing your hated rival and game before the best team in the conference for ? years running = trap game.

I really think the SHSU 'D' can get after it this week...

They'll want to show that their efforts against SFA and UTSA are no joke... and of course, we did set some school marks against Nicholls last year as it relates to getting to the QB, so that's all the more encouragement for the 'D'.

SHSU game plan is simple... run the ball... stop the run...force the pass... win the time of possession. SHSU ranks #2 in the nation in TOP because of their effective running game and rush defense...

It is sad because Sam Houston will try to extract a big score on Nicholls State to pound their chests and build that big fat head.

SHSU won't try to extract a big score...

If SHSU does things the SHSU way... they'll run the ball plenty of times and just hold on to the ball... if Nicholls can't stop the run, that falls on them and once more, SHSU's players lack this "big head" that you refer to. You have obviously failed to watch any press conferences, listen to any interviews or read any newspaper articles...

Vs SFA... SHSU's last 4 touchdowns were on the ground. Of our 72 offensive plays, 49 were on the ground. SHSU had four INTs of SFA passes. If we wanted to run up the score via the air, we most certainly could have... but that's not SHSU-style football.

Get a grip!

I've got to agree with Cat79. I personally witnessed several Kat players physically unable to put their helmets back on in our game against Sam Houston. I felt bad for them so I googled proper helmet fitting and recited it to the equipment crew. Here it is via HOW:

Instructions
Things You'll Need
Measuring Tape

1
Know the head size and shape. The shell size of the helmet can be determined by measuring the head size with helmet tape (not duct tape or bailing wire). Don’t forget to look closely at the shape of the head, as well, for any irregularities that would require a fitting adjustment (such as extreme swelling).

2
Measure the eyebrows. Eyebrows should be 1 to 1 ½ inches below the edge of the helmet (the front, not the back). The side holes of the helmet need to be centered over the ears and not used as baggo board holes on the sidelines just because your team is up 30 and bored. The back of the skull must be covered and must cover the mullet while making sure the edge of the helmet doesn’t cut into the back of the neck. Use sandpaper or a dremmel to smooth out the back of the helmet to aid in player comfort.

3
Focus on the jaw pads (not the lips). Jaw pads should follow cheek contour and the face guard is most effective at 2 to 2 ½ finger widths from the tip of the nose. You can attain this measurement by placing fingers IN FRONT of the nose not IN the nose. The cup of the chinstrap, not the crotch cup, should fit snugly and square on the chin.

4
Remember the helmet should always move with the head, not independently. If it shifts around it is too big and if it pops up it is most likely too small. Check back over all the features mentioned above and adjust accordingly. If the helmet doesn't physically fit due to extreme swelling of the player's head, cease throwing TDs and instead fake muscle cramps, roll on the floor and quit going for two on your 7th TD of the night. xthumbsupx

The equipment guys seemed pretty grateful for this advice and spent hours icing down the heads of the effected players to reduce the swelling.

Doesnt matter though, they will be in the Worthless And Clueless conference next year playing for a chance to participate in some of the most meaningless bowls during bowl season..... whoopie!!! xthumbsupx

Article from Nicholls side of things... says Klann will be starter and IF Caston is able to play, could see both incorporated in offense.

Getting off the field on third down was a problem for Nicholls State's defense in last week's 37-31 Southland Conference loss to Central Arkansas.

Central Arkansas converted 6-of-12 third-down plays, but what was disheartening was that the Bears converted several third-and-long situations.

Nicholls coach Charlie Stubbs said the plan is always to force teams into third-and-long situations, but in those situations, the defense has to execute.
