Game of the week here has to be URI and Umass. All the others are very uninteresting matchups. jmu vs liberty as well as delaware vs delaware state might be good matchups for the fans of those schools, but uri vs umass is definitely the game of the week.

Forgot to add in my original post - Georgia State travels to Jacksonville State. A week after the Panthers lost to NAIA's Lambuth last season, they lost to JSU in overtime but had a chance to win at the end. Georgia State will be without its starting center and that will prove to be too much, as the Gamecocks roll to the victory.

Villanova 21 Monmouth 15 - May be VU's only shot at a win the rest of the way - starting a true FR QB, but Monmouth is horrific compared to CAA competition.

Delaware 41 DelState 17 - Look for UD to still have some issues on defense but to look better on offense, AP will rush for 150+.

Richmond 31 VMI 10 - VMI still stinks & UR will improve off of last week's letdown game vs Wagner

ODU 34 Hampton 21 - Game won't be real close, Hampton scores a TD or 2 in 4th qtr.

Maine 28 Albany 14 - I like the way Maine did at Heinz Field last week, if you can hang w/ a Big East team you can push around the NEC.

URI 34 UMass 17 - UMass didn't play last week which isn't a great thing to do in September, especially with no clear QB. URI makes a statement to the rest of the league.

Liberty 16 JMU 10 - JMU is starting to get banged up & hasn't had their offense figured out in reality since Landers left the Montana game limping off, this is Liberty's Super Bowl.

W&M 38 New Haven 7 - I know W&M has had some major offensive struggles so far, but they run for major yardage this week & an easy win.

Bye 17 Towson 10 - Towson comes back to reality & Bye's students rush the field.

UNH 49 Idle 35 - Same old story no matter who the Wildcats lineup against, they have a potent offense, but can't seem to stop anybody.

Villanova (if they lose this game, their season is over. it's bad now, but that loss would be the final nail)
Maine
Richmond
Old Dominion (hampton isn't a playoff team this season but they'll fight odu hard the entire game. wouldn't be surprised if hu won)
Delaware (they can't lose this one. ap will get credit for running a marathon when this is over)
Massachusetts (toss up game. only went with umass because they're home)
James Madison (another toss up but i see jmu rallying to make a point in this game)
William & Mary (this would've been no contest the last few years. the tribe will need to rush for 200+ yrds and control the clock)

Really? I know the first two weeks have been less than exciting, and no disrespect to New Haven, I'm sure they're a fine team, but you're a bit off thinking this will be a contest of any sort.

Week 3 with only 3 games I see easy to call. Should be some great football as the CAA teams close out most of their OOC schedules. Is Nova DOA this year? Maine/URI/ODU going to challenge? Is JMU still overmatched on the offensive end to make a playoff run? More answers to come after Saturday.

Monmouth @ Villanova
This actually looks like an intriguing game all of a sudden. I think Nova shows up just enough to preserve some face.
Monmouth 20 - Villanova 21

Maine @ Albany
What an ugly game the first time around. This should be a little bit better. Maine is showing this may be the year their 'hope' turns into a reality. Albany actually has a CAA team at home. Now is their chance as well. Maine in a good football game.
Maine 24 - Albany 20

VMI @ (6) Richmond
URI will take this as the Keydets are overmatched again by a CAA team.
VMI 10 - Richmond 37

Hampton @ ODU
Are either of these teams for real? Both off to a nice but not defining 2-0 starts with some so-so W's. Hampton is only playing down the road so still very much a home game for a lot of their guys. I think Hampton shows they are the playoff pretender / season bully of a few years ago.
Hampton 34 - ODU 30

Delaware St. @ (7) Delaware
A game between to in-state rivals that was such a hotly debated playoff game just a few short years ago. Now, different directions.
Delaware St. 14 - Delaware 40

URI @ (21) UMass
Two teams with only 1 game to base our thoughts on so far this year. Both looked pretty good in game 1 so who takes a tumble? I am big on URI this year. This game could be a nice arrival party for the Rams.
URI 27 - UMass 21

(22) JMU @ (13) Liberty
These games are always too close for my comfort. Libery has been trying for years to make a signature 'W' of the Dukes in the regular season for a at-large playoff berth. They have the auto bid route now though and the Dukes really need the win and some points to have some confidence heading into the CAA grinder...
JMU 30 - Liberty 24

New Haven @ William and Mary
A D2 game for the Tribe? Should make for an easy 'W' but won't help come playoff time. Good to give some backups the playing time and experience they need as the season goes on.
New Haven 17 - W&M 38

UNH+Towson @ BYE

BONUS
Georgia State @ (17) Jacksonville St.
Georgia State has a pretty tough matchup with their first road game. This is another chance for them to keep it close and show progress. To me, its still year 2...

unfortunately this is the year that UR skips nova on the schedule...

In a rebuilding year with pretty much all freshmen and sophomores, Nova is playing with their 3rd string QB who is a walk-on and without their two best wide receivers and without their best offensive lineman - you do the math :P

Maine 24 - Albany 20xthumbsupx

Hampton 34 - ODU 30xbawlingx Close game, wrong winner...
Delaware St. 14 - Delaware 40xthumbsupx
URI 27 - UMass 21xbawlingx The Rams needed this one...
JMU 30 - Liberty 24xbowxxbowx Just a FG away from exact score
New Haven 17 - W&M 38xthumbsupxxconfusedx
UNH+Towson @ BYE - BYE looks unstoppable this year...

BONUS
GSt 13 - Jacksonville St 28xthumbsupx

A very tough week but some more clarity to the teams:

- NOVA is toast. Can they win a game?
- W&M looks very vulnerable.
- ODU could be at the very least competitive in most of their CAA games THIS year.
- JMU can score. This may be their return to the top.
- Maine looking like a top half of the league team.

The CAA truly doesn't look to have a dominant team. However, 7-10 tough outs. Looking forward to more conference action next week! xcoolx

Overall 5-3
CAA 0-1
Bonus 1-0

Total 24-5
CAA 1-1
Bonus 2-1

I guess my "bit off thinking" realism trumps over-confident. I wish you were correct but I've attended every game this season and haven't seen anything on offense to make me think this team could beat any college program 45-0.

I whiffed on Nova, assuming their speed would be too much for Monmouth. Their RB Doss is the real deal but without an established quarterback, it may be tough to regulary move the ball through the air until proven otherwise.

crow eaten. xbowx While I do agree that we have some serious problems, I'm sure even you would not have predicted a final of 13-10. After holding VMI (a college program) to 3.5 scoreless quarters last week, I was thinking it would be awful hard for New Haven to score. Clearly I was wrong, and my over-confidence sat squarely with the offense. I am hopeful that with the insertion of Graham things will be on the up, but I suppose we'll see.

JMU banged up? Nope. Offense still unclear? Nope. JMU 10 points? Nope. Liberty's "Super Bowl"? Yep. JMU loss? Nope. Too bad UD and JMU don't play in the regular season. Perhaps in the post-season.

Even me? There aren't many who have followed the Tribe like me. No, I wouldn't have predicted 13-10. I also wouldn't have predicted a shutout, nor anything near the Tribe scoring 45 points. Graham is clearly a much better QB so I am optimistic that we will move the ball much better this Saturday. Grimes can only do but so much when our opponent knows we can't throw the ball. If Graham can throw for 200+ yards, Grimes and the o-line will handle the rest. If he looks like Paulus, there's no chance at a victory. 24-3 against JMU at home 2 years ago and last season's debacle won't happen again.

I'd be interested in helping JMU's long slide back to mediocrity happen, sure. But you have to make the playoffs..'09...'10....

I thought I remembered that. It's on a few people's signatures. I still get a chuckle every now and then when that pops up.
