Ummmm...Eachus is really good, but if he got 200 yds against us I'd bet on 1 of 2 things:

1. He had 45+ carries; or
2. Albany forgot there was a game.

Albany's run defense has always been extremely stout. Our LB's are not flashy this year...they are solid. But our D-Line is pretty fantastic and deep. If the big boys of Colgate dominate the guys up front, our LB's will be tested very early in their careers. We had a big loss of Chris Wilk at LB.

I like the whole idea of Colgate-Albany - the game makes sense from every angle.

And it will be enjoyed for the next three years (after this one). In fact, Colgate will, if everything goes to plan, open Albany's 6500 seat Phase 1, "Bob Ford Field" at (insert name of sponsor) in 2012.

If it really goes to plan, you will open Phase 2 in 2014, the 10,000+ seat version.

A few notes from the game notes for the opener

Seniors Nate Eachus and Chris DiMassa are the 2011 Captains

Colgate was picked to finish 2nd in the Patriot League's preseason poll, with Eachus being named the Patriot League's Preseason Offensive Player of the Year

Eachus enters the season 4th in school history in rushing yards (3,722) and rushing touchdowns (47). He needs exactly 1,900 yards to pass Jordan Scott as the school's all-time rushing leader, and 11 rushing TDs to break Scott's record in that catagory

Drew Smith.

Credit half of that score to Layton for that punt. Field position game.

TheValleyRaider
September 3rd, 2011, 05:40 PM
Albany effectively moves down the field with a no-huddle, capped off by Smith's 5 yard run up the middle, TOUCHDOWN. Glass' PAT is up and GOOD

10-7 Albany
10:39 2nd

Dane96
September 3rd, 2011, 05:41 PM
DF...definitely give credit to Layton.

And though it may be a jinx...I now see why Buddy was beaten out by Dan. Dan looks absolutely 180 degrees worth of difference right now. Poised, good reads (saw him go through a few progressions on the dump offs), and pulling the ball down to run at the right times.

Very impressed.

Dane96
September 3rd, 2011, 05:42 PM
Wow...great answer by Colgate. Big Return to the 45.

danefan

Colgate 14
Albany 10

TheValleyRaider
September 3rd, 2011, 05:46 PM
Out of the timeout, McCarney looks deep for Cason and he's got him! TOUCHDOWN!! Uglietto's kick is up and GOOD!!

9:30 2nd

Dane96
September 3rd, 2011, 05:46 PM

i have no clue. He wasn't under the radar. He was the 2008 NJ Gatorade Player of the Year for high profile Don Bosco and then averaged around 300 yards per game at Blair Academy the year after Dion Lewis. They just didn't think he had it.

danefan

Both teams are going to be tough in conference.

TheValleyRaider

Danefan...you are right. I would have pegged a 20-17 final. The way this is going...if I wasn't busy ripping my apartment to shreds...the adrenaline from this game would make me stir crazy. Part of me was wondering if the D's were playing really bad...and I don't think that's the case.

The O's are really ahead of the game early in the season.

Colgate's defensive issues from last year seem to be lingering. I can't believe how high scoring this game is so far!

It is a really awesome game to watch. And the guys are hitting...it's not like the Defenses aren't playing.

What a half. Never would have guessed 52 total points.

TheValleyRaider
September 3rd, 2011, 06:20 PM
What. The heck. Was that?

The offense looks pretty good. McCarney's got some toughness, a good arm and some repore with the receivers. Eachus looks strong, and if they can keep the offense chugging along, they'll get some points

As for the defense, not good. They seem to be struggling at times with the no-huddle, not getting set and letting guys get free, especially in the secondary. They need to find some way to stop giving up big plays and short drives

This has been exactly what I expected for a Colgate-Albany game, and at the same time completely unlike what I would have predicted. I was in Waco last night for the TCU-Baylor video game, and this game is uncomfortably similar to this point. We'll see what adjustments Biddle comes up with for the 2nd half, especially on the defense

Why doesn't your offense make like a tree, and get out of here? :p

I expected a close one, and so far it's been pretty tight. I might have guessed 31-21 as a final score, but not at the half. Long way to go, and plenty of chances to tilt the machine
