Will contend with incumbent starter and true sophomore Brian Bell... many are already tabbing him as our 'Wildkat' QB...

Just curious. Do you think HS QB's shy away from Sam because they get so many QB transfers from FBS? I thought this sophomore you have now was going to be the first home-raised one to play. No offense meant. McNeese also seems to be getting more high profile transfers lately.

We had Brett Hicks a few years ago and Wade Pate before that... but yes, I think it impacts HS quarterbacks to some degree. Part of the problem is that they did not develop adequately under the old coaching regime while the previous one before that was pretty limited to loading up transfer QBs under center. Think the new coaches are a bit different...
What I find interesting is that we are also adding D2 transfers regularly now - including a D2 All-Conference performer at OL from South Dakota School of the Mines.

Recently, Sam's coach talked about in the past always having a transfer at QB and now they was able to allow someone to come up through the system. And now this. :)

I honestly believe that Bell is the starter and this guy is the back-up, plus likely to get a few snaps out of the 'wildkat' along with Sincere.

SHSU added two other transfer... Brown is a DE/TE from Oklahoma (our head coach loves guys that play multiple positions) and Weaver is a LB.
Three NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) transfers have joined the Sam Houston State program and now are participating in the Bearkats' preseason drills daily at Elliott T. Bowers Stadium.
Jarrett Brown, a 6-3 265-pound sophomore from the University of Oklahoma, joined the team for his first practice Sunday.
Emory Miller, a 5-11 195-pound redshirt freshman from the University of Wyoming, and Andrew Weaver, a 6-1 240-pound junior from Texas A&M, reported with the rest of the Bearkat squad last Wednesday.

I think I saw this story two years ago when Western opened up at SHSU? :)
