Ok, so technically I don't guess the NEC has a losing streak but humor me.

[EDIT] Oops, forgot that Lehigh won in the opening round last year. Sorry about that.

You do realize that Lehigh is in the Patriot League and won a playoff game last year, right?

That means we win the poll, right?

As long as the Patriot gets to play teams other than from the CAA or the SoCon, they actually have a puncher's chance of winning. Actually a growing list of MVFC teams that have found that out.

The streaks, near as I can tell:
Big South 2
Northeast 1
Patriot 1
MEAC 14 (Florida A&M 1999)
OVC 16, unless you don't count Western Kentucky's win in 2000, then it's 20 (Murray St, 1996)

I wanted to make a homer vote for the NEC, but picked the OVC because in spite of the streak they somehow keep getting multiple bids about every other year (5 in the last 11 years).

I just think Jax St. will finally get over the hump. They got a bad first round draw vs. Wofford last year, but that happens.

seedings will be set up for most all to be playing away so chances are not going to happen this season.

If FAMU finally makes the post season, they will make noise this year. They have 25 seniors and this guy named Austin Trainor (Sp.) at QB.

Jax. State is long overdue for a postseason win and if the Hatch Attack can make it to the post season, they will be a tough out as well.

The teams the PL squads lose to are usually the best of the best. Plus, almost all the games are on the road. There isn't a conference in the country that has faced matchups like these.
In 8/14 years the PL rep(s) lost to either the National Champ or National Runner-up. In 1998 they lost to both. The only non-CAA or SoCon school a PL team has lost to is Illinois State in 1999.

1997 - (L) Colgate @ #1 Villanova 1st round

1998 - (W) Lehigh @ #3 Richmond 1st round
(L) Lehigh @ Umass, National Champs, 2nd round
(L) Colgate @ Georgia Southern, National Runner-up

1999 - (L) Lehigh @ Hofstra 1st round
(L) Colgate @ Illinois State 1st round

2000 - (W) Lehigh @ Western Illinois 1st round
(L) Lehigh @ Delaware, that was a really good UD team

2001 - (W) Hofstra @ Lehigh, finally a home game!
(L) Lehigh @ Furman, National Runner-up

2002 - (W) Fordham @ Northeastern 1st round
(L) Fordham @ Villanova 2nd round

2003 - (W) Umass @ Colgate
(W) Western Illinois @ Colgate 2nd round
(W) Colgate @ FAU Semi's
(L) National Title game against Delaware

2004 - (L) JMU, National Champs @ Lehigh
(L) Lafayette @ Delaware

2005 - (L) Lafayette @ Appalachian State, National Champs
(L) Colgate @ UNH

2006 - (L) Lafayette @ Umass, National Runner-up

2007 - (L) Fordham @ Umass

2008 - (L) Colgate @ Villanova, semifinalist

2009 - (L) Holy Cross @ Villanova, National Champs

2010 - (W) Lehigh @ Northern Iowa
(L) Lehigh @ Delaware, National Runner-up

So that's five of the seven PL teams. Will recruits at Bucknell or Georgetown get any chance to join this group?

Some of these streaks are going to come to an end real soon. Having an opening round with the expanded playoffs will almost certainly ensure that.

Bucknell was 10-1 in '97 but lost the head2head to Colgate.

Who knows, maybe the Pioneer will get a bid (as they should) and break through first...

It probably doesn't go unnoticed amongst the league hoi oligoi that the PL gets to play against a national finalist just about every year (and yes, take that, you Ivy pedestrians). One imagines that this enters into the league's recent decision-making process, for better or for worse.
