omg that is so ugly. No offense to the Bears. There should be a 15 yard personal foul penalty on every play due to how ugly and offensive that looks though.

No Joke: UCA Announces Plans For Purple and Gray Field At Estes Stadium (http://www.arkansassports360.com/24378/no-joke-uca-announces-plans-for-purple-and-gray-field-at-estes-stadium)

Nope. This is not an April Fool’s Day stunt.

UCA is replacing its traditional football turf with alternating gray and purple stripes. It’s one of a number of upgrades to the Bears’ facilities and easily the most eye-catching one.

Steve East, the school’s AD for media relations, said the timing of the announcement has led to some skepticism, but it is “legit.” This particular design was one of about 10 variations considered and was approved by coaches, players, boosters and administrators.

I think that was the idea. They wanted to be "different' but no use bold colors that would make it look gaudy. It will look clean when it's finished.

THIS. MUST. STOP.

sorry, i know you guys are probably excited about having something different from most teams, but this stuff is getting out of control. i will agree it's not as painful to look at as EWU's, but i really thought it was cool when Boise State had something unique. what's next? putting in one of those "hidden image" pictures that were popular about 15 years ago on the field? this is absurd. i'm not ripping on any of you PERSONALLY, it's not your fault... but i'm really getting sick of these things.

Actually you are right. The color scheme will NOT be bright and bold. Looking at it on Hi-Def computer monitors only over-emphasizes the colors. It will actually be a toned down field in person. TVs of course will highlight the colors, but so much less than a Boise etc.. It'll look nice...I can't wait! LOL.

I have no problem with the new colored fields going in. Whatever excites the team and local fans is all good. I'm just a little concerned, especially when an alternating pattern like this is installed. Has anyone done a study to see if the pattern can effect play? Does it give an unfair advantage to the team that gets to practice there and gets used to the visual noise? Does it have no effect all? I really have no clue. Anyone else?

UAalum72

You're wrong.

There is no NCAA rule saying what color turfs have to be.

Here is the NCAA rule regarding Field of Play…

1.1 Dimensions

1.1.1 The field of play shall be rectangular, the width of which shall not exceed the length.

1.1.2 The width shall not be more than 80 yards [73.15m] nor less than 65 yards [59.44m] and the length shall not be more than 120 yards [109.73m] nor less than 110 yards [100.58m]; however, fields of less than minimal dimensions may be used by prior written mutual consent of the competing institutions. The optimum size is 75 yards [68.58m] by 120 yards [109.73m].

New facilities shall be a minimum of 70 yards [64.01m] in width by 115 yards [105.15m] in length.

It is the responsibility of the home team to notify the visiting team, before the date of the game, of any changes in field dimensions (e.g., greater or lesser than minimal requirements), playing surface (e.g., from
grass to artificial or vice versa) or location of the playing site. Further, it is recommended that teams agree on field dimensions before confirming contests or signing game contracts

You realize those are soccer field dimensions, don't you? American football fields are 160 X 360 feet (53 1/3 x 120 yards).

Redhawk2010
April 6th, 2011, 11:35 AM

Can you show us the rule? A quick google search tells me the NCAA does NOT have one.
