Grambling is coming to Houston to play the Cougars at Robertson Stadium to replace New Mexico State. New Mexico State in turn has replaced Houston with another Houston school, I-AA Texas Southern. New Mexico State now has two I-AAs, Southeastern Louisiana (where New Mexico St HC Hal Mumme previously coached) and Texas Southern on their schedule.
Houston last played a I-AA in the form of Sam Houston State in 2005...

Sept 16. contest against Grambling takes place of New Mexico State
It's been an offseason of changes for Cougar football, and they just keep coming, the latest involving the schedule.
The Cougars and New Mexico State have mutually agreed to cancel their two-year series of football games, a decision that has turned into a bonus for the program.
Rather than traveling to Las Cruces on Sept. 16 to play the Aggies, as indicated on the schedule released earlier by Conference USA, the Cougars will instead play Grambling at Robertson Stadium. The Aggies, who are coming off an 0-12 season and were looking to soften their schedule as much as possible, will play host Texas Southern on Sept. 16.
