For a football program that holds most of its practices out in the open, the Southern Jaguars opened spring drills under an unusually thick veil of secrecy.
Second-year coach Stump Mitchell waited until Monday’s first day of spring practice to unveil Southern’s two new assistant coaches: offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Gerald Carr and defensive line coach Tayrone Odums.
“These guys have coached on several different levels,” Mitchell said after Monday’s workout in A.W. Mumford Stadium.
