Howard @ Furman: Furmies take out frustrations against a MEAC foe.
Chattanooga @ The Citadel: Nooga rolls.
Elon @ Appalachian State: Eloan is toast (with apologies to GAS).
Samford @ Western Carolina: The Whee gets another at home.
Wofford @ Georgia Southern: SoCon game of the week, IMO, and a toss-up after Wofford's performance today. Giving GSU the home field advantage.

Howard @ Furman - Do I really have to predict?
Chattanooga @ The Citadel - Chattanooga more than likely
Elon @ Appalachian State - App is getting a little too comfortable. I think this could be an upset
Samford @ Western Carolina - Wish i could say that Western would win but unfortunately we haven't had back to back wins in over +3 years
Wofford @ Georgia Southern - Think Georgia Southern will be strong this game

Howard @ Furman (Beatdown of the week) - Furman will take out their frustrations on Howard
Chattanooga @ The Citadel - Well-rested Mocs get revenge from last year.
Elon @ Appalachian State - The flat-lining sound you hear in Boone is that of Elon's playoff chances.
Samford @ Western Carolina - This is a different team than the one that played vs. Tusculum (Note to WCU fans: have some confidence in your team).
Wofford @ Georgia Southern (Game of the week) - Home field advantage give the Eagles the push needed to win this one.

Howard @ Furman - Should be an easy W for Furman - Hopefull a W will take their fans off of death watch...
Chattanooga @ The Citadel - Nooga rolls - Citadel is not looking so hot this year
Elon @ Appalachian State - TV Curse continues for Elon. GSU put the stake in their heart and APP twists it and eliminates them from the playoffs.
Samford @ Western Carolina - Dog>Cat
Wofford @ Georgia Southern - This game scares me a little more now after seeing Wofford's performance against Furman. Big difference is GSU has the #1 rushing D in the conference and has already seen a version of the option from Navy and shut them down. Plus there is a little bit of magic back in Paulson this year. I predict 20k+ at the game.

Howard @ Furman - Furman takes out its frustrations against Howard.
Chatty @ El Cid - UTC appears to be on the upswing while Citdogs are still struggling.
Elon @ ASU - ASU is tough to beat at The Rock but this is almost a playoff elimination game for Elon. Riddle throws for a lot of yardage but the Fenix still fall to the Apps......again.
Samford @ Western Carolina - Maybe my first time in years picking the Cats to win a SoCo game but they actually appear to be improving. Sammy is underachieving and WCU has a little confidence. Cats in a squeaker at home.
Wofford @ GSU - Never thought at the beginning of the season that this game would carry so much weight in the SoCon and nationally. GSU playing at home having already played well against a good option team in Navy should win this game. Nothing the ankle-biters ever do surprises me so don't count them out but I can't see GSU losing this game at home

Elon sandbaggers. ASU's secondary has been suspect all season, the inferior passer, BJ Coleman, threw for 340 yards and 3 TDs vs. ASU.

ASU should be able to run the ball on Elon however and wear down their defense. I'm expecting a higher scoring game this time around from both parties.

Not sandbagging, just facts. Look, Elon probably lost their center for the year, RB Newsome after a pretty good half of running the football came out limping and is probably questionable, RB Shulman hasn't played a down all year, and the defensive secondary started 3 freshman and a soph. that was a LB last year, this past weekend. They don't have anyone who can punt and the kickoff and field goal specialist is DIII level. My high school has a junior that has kicked a 50 yard field goal 2 weeks in a row and Elon can't make one from 40. Don't get me wrong, I think the world of my alba mator, met my wife there and have educated kids there, but facts are facts and there are weak spots. The score will be like last year.xbawlingx

We have some good kids, but man, the injuries to the upperclassmen are killing right now. Newsome playing injured, Shuman out, Camp out, Wilson out, Hunt playing injured, Hardin (center) out, the list can keep going. Shuman, Camp and Wilson are also the top 3 return specialists. Geez, now I know how Wofford fans felt last season.......

Not sandbagging:
1) there was debate on whether Coleman is a better QB than Riddle. Can Riddle get more passing on an App defense that has had 2 weeks to prepare for a passing only attack?
2) #1 receiver is out, #1 RB is out, #2 RB is questionable, #1 CB is out, #2 CB is out, #1 return man is out, Starting Center is out, Long snapper is out
3) We couldn't beat App with a better defense and better set of receivers at home last year
4) Lembo can't win a big game
5) It's App's homecoming
6) We don't have a PK with any confidence since the Richmond loss last year
7) We don't have any on field leadership
8) We haven't beaten App since I was born

Tell me, why should I think anything will be different? This has all the sign os being a beat down on the level of the Paul Hamilton and Al Seagraves days. We have some great underclassman talent at lots of positions; but they look raw and the positions they will be playing against are skilled positions for the App team.

Didn't know about the kicking problems that will be trouble. I'd say that freshman WR is your #1 WR, the kid can play. The Coleman comment was tongue in cheek.

I do hope you guys are right, but I have my doubts about the passing attack, ASU will need to get to Riddle like they did last year. I also hope you guys show up in Boone to hopefully help break the attendance record, perfect football weather, 65 degrees and sunny for kickoff. I believe this is Elon's first game with all the improvements to the ROCK completed. Get there early.

Howard (1-4, 0-3) at Furman (2-2, 1-1)
After disposing of D2 Lincoln last week, the Bison of Howard University bring their one game win streak to Greenville for a showdown with Furman. In their 28-14 victory over the Lions, Howard managed to rush for 226 yards on offense while the defense picked off the Lion quarterbacks twice. Furman returns to Paladin stadium after falling to Wofford 38-17. In the loss, the Paladins were outgained by 200 yards on offense, gave up 400 yards rushing on defense, and allowed 3 sacks. I honestly thought the Paladins would’ve played a better game, but they were obviously caught looking ahead to tomorrow’s game against Howard. While the Bison pose no real threat to the Paladins (Howard is last in the MEAC), Furman could get caught again looking forward to their week 7 date with Samford.
Furman 45 Howard 7

Chattanooga (2-2, 1-1) at The Citadel (2-3, 0-2)
After playing in place of the Vols and almost pulling out the upset in Baton Rouge, a rested Chattanooga heads to Charleston for a date with The Citadel. In their last game against Western Carolina, the Mocs racked up over 350 yards on their way to a thrilling victory over the Catamounts, 27-21. Citadel comes in having lost to Western Carolina 24-13. In the loss, the option attack on managed to gain 198 rushing yards & lost 2 fumbles. However, the Bulldog D made the game more manageable by forcing 2 fumbles and by gaining a sack. This game could actually be a defensive battle as the Bulldogs bring the #3 defense while the Mocs bring the #4. The difference maker however will be BJ Coleman, as he will test the #3 pass defense.
Chattanooga 21 Citadel 10

Elon (2-3, 1-1) at Appalachian State (4-0, 2-0)
The hits just keep coming for the Phoenix of Elon as they travel to Boone for a SoCon showdown with App St. Last week saw the Phoenix rebound and defeat the Bulldogs of Samford University 24-19. In the win the Phoenix posted close to 500 total offensive yards, 416 coming from one Scott Riddle. Elon’s D again struggled as they gave up over 300 yards and garnered no sacks. The Mountaineers come in having enjoyed a week off. In the victory over Samford in week 5, App managed to post 459 total offensive yards with the defense held Samford in check. While most feel the Ga. Southern/Wofford game is the SoCon game of the week, I feel this game is. Why? Elon is in a four way tie for fourth in conference and they need this victory. Several thought they would go 4 for 4 against the Eagles and they didn’t. Follow that by what I would consider a poor performance against Samford, where they coughed up the ball 5 times and allowed 2 sacks. Really disappointing for a team that was supposed to finish in the top 3 in the SoCon this year. This game is also important for App as they start the home stretch in their schedule towards a possible playoff berth and need to not to look ahead to games against Furman, Wofford, and Ga. Southern in the coming weeks. App wins in a surprising close one.
App St. 35 Elon 33

Samford (2-3, 0-2) at Western Carolina (2-3, 1-1)
Still looking for their first SoCon win of the year, Samford travels to “winless at home” Western Carolina for a Saturday playdate. Samford comes in having dropped a close one to Elon 24-19. In loss, the Bulldogs managed to post respectable offensive numbers and while the D forced 5 fumbles and picked up 2 sacks. Had the Bulldogs kept the penalties to a minimum, they could’ve left with the win. The Catamounts come in having disposed of The Citadel in the previous game 24-13. The Cats were led by Pechloff who threw for 154 yards and 2 TD and by Nate Harris’ two rushing TD’s. As said, Western hasn’t won a game at home so far that I don’t forsee that changing this week. If you look at the drive chart from the game against the Citadel, Western played a sloppy game and was able to get away with. Samford won’t allow that as they are hungry for a win.
Samford 35 Western Carolina 21

Wofford (3-1, 1-0) at Georgia Southern (3-1, 1-0)
It’s gonna be good. That’s all I can say about this game. Forget the past games. Forget the season up till now. Both teams are tied for second in the conference, both teams run the option, both teams have big conference wins (Wofford: Furman; GS: Elon), both teams are in the top 3 in scoring offense, and both teams field the #1 (GS) & #2 (Wofford) defenses in the conference. This game is shaping up to be a battle of the option, as Wofford has the #1 rushing offense and GS the #1 rushing defense. My concern lies with the fact that GS enjoyed a week off while Wofford took care of Furman. I’m going to say it right now; App St will lose to whoever wins this game. I also don’t predict a high scoring affair...see the GS/Navy game. But I’ll go with the homer pick.
Ga. Southern 21 Wofford 17.

Okay, so our offense played poorly against Samford, but Elon and App's D did have comporable performances. Just to name a few stats:

Points: App 17, Elon 19
Total yards (defense): Elon 342, App 323: Elon gave up a whopping 19 more
Defensive turnovers: App 4, Elon 3
First Downs given up: App 16, Elon 15
Third down conversions (defense): App 7/18, elon 4/14

So, what is your point in this post. In my opinion, Southern Eagle is giving you allot of respect and saying you are going to be very tough. The difference in the defensive performances is really quite different. The App/Samford game was never in question. App had control of the game the entire time. App played alot of reserves in the game. The same cannot be said about Elon/Samford. It was a close game. I am sure your first team defense was in most of the game. It is really like comparing apples and oranges.
Elon will come to Boone and play very hard. Hopefully, App prevails. Here is looking forward to a fun, competitive game.

A lot of the Samford yards came during our 2nd team D 4th quarter mop up duty......can't really compare the two games....plus you guys had them at home, we went to Samford.

As of now, the only tickets left are General Admission (grass), as the seats are sold out. But anyone thinking about coming, dont let that stop you!!!

Why are so many Elon fans so churpy? I said nothing negative about your team and all you can come back with is being defensive? You have a good team. Please quit looking for an excuse for everything that does not goe your way. If you come to Boone and give a good effort, win or lose, be proud of your team. I am sorry for my last post.
