Hahaha. I didn't catch that at first. Must not have been a quality win, because we didn't move up in the polls!

Shouldn't the team that beat #21 get SOME votes in this poll?

Strange poll. GA Southern replaces Furman after we kept it competitive against #15 ranked South Carolina all game? No offense against GA Southern.

Strikes me as odd as well. Mayhaps the coaches looked at the score and not the opponent.

With all due respect, and I will probably get lambasteed for saying this...
There's no way App State deserves the #1 spot at this point.
They have played no one.
They needed a huge 4th quarter rally against an unranked team.
They allowed 14 points to non-scholly Jacksonville and 16 points to NC Central.
They will not even be tested until Week 6!
I just don't think #1 should go to a team that we really can't even measure yet.
It could be that at the end of teh season, they deserve it, but not now.

I have to agree with you guys. I still don't think that anyone knows enough about our team for us to be ranked yet, but obviously I hope that we'll find out soon that we are deserving of this.

This is also the poll that dropped 'Nova from #1 after losing to Temple, so the win/loss wins out over the opponent apparently.

I am a little shocked that no one dropped JSU a couple spots.

Agreed but I think I can say this without being yelled at because I am going to say ditto for us (W&M).

Had many of the top 10 not lost, that may have happened, but luckily, they did :)
That being said, good teams find a way to win and pull it out in the end, and despite how we have played, we have been able to do that in each game.

Can't argue that one bit, but this is a coaches poll and they have to put someone there. I would rather see us around #8 at this time with the 3-0 record.

Being ranked #1 at this point just means you have a bigger target on your back and more teams get a chance of having a great game and knocking off the #1. Besides, everyone gauges where their program is by how they play App State.

Think about it.

You're correct about who we've played. But I think that Chatty will be proven pretty solid by season's end, and allowing points to JU and Central was largely due to pulling our starters and cycling a ton of players in and out. You could make an argument against almost anyone getting the #1 slot this early.

I disagree. App St. is 3-0. They pulled out a heck of a win against Chatty (which shows that they can get it done when the chips are down), and have looked solid. As someone posted...."someone has to be number 1", and with the recent history and what they have done, the consistency of the program....in my book they are #1 until someone beats them. (This may be the only postive post I ever make about App St.)

Who gave Georgia State votes? Do they pay attention?

And William and Mary. People complain about ASU's ranking and I agree the last two opponents weren't quality opponents. However they defeated them like a top 5 to 10 team should (30+). Also note that one of them (Jacksonville) beat ODU, who W&M struggled against.

ASU has the talent to be #1 by the end of the season, but I agree they are overrated at #1 after week 3, #5 in my ballot. The secondary isn't playing up to the talent level, I certainly hope they figure out the new scheme ASU implemented soon.

They did go to OT against 4th ranked team. Though someone also still gave JvSt a number 1 vote as well after that game.
