Between JMU's win and the FBS to FCS thread, I've started remembering our own history with VT.

1976 16-0 home win
1977 17-14 home win
1979 0-34 away loss
1980 18-7 home win (3-1?)
1981 12-28 away loss
1982 9-20 home loss (our 1st FCS yr)
1983 0-38 away loss
1984 13-21 away loss
1985 24-14 away win
1986 10-17 home loss

Played Wake Forest in 1987 then took a 10 year hiatus from the BCS.

Not that non-UR fans care about this, just wanted to document it. xreadx

10 year hiatus? Well there was no BCS back then, but I know the Spiders played I-A Navy in 1990.

I knew Navy was in there somewhere and thought maybe a MAC school too, that's why I said BCS to be safe. xlolx

But it did seem that '88-'96 we concentrated on eliminating the injury risk from early season FBS/FCS games. Then starting with UVA in '97, we decided 1 game a year was manageable (unlike VT& UGA in '86).

I remember a great Rutgers-Richmond game in New Brunswick on RU's Homecomng day in 1985. The game went right down to the final play and Rutgers prevailed.

If you go to the Hokies site and look up their oppenent history the Ivies are actually REALLY good against them all-time. However, they haven't really played them since the 1950's...

(I just like seeing the 1 in the win column for us)

Well, it would have been great except for the bolded part...xsmhx xlolx

We were #1 in the polls until then at 7-0, ended 8-3 and out of the playoffs. Always blamed the W&M loss, not yours, or the mudbowl in Boston.

Nowadays 1-1 vs FBS, 8-3 overall would be a lock.

Besides reminiscing, you realize I'm trying to share your spotlight, too. xlolx

But seriously congratulations!

And besides the Ivies, look at VMI - 35% all time, 6-0 win in 1981 which was the last year they had a winning record...
