At age 102, Charles Strobel '33 still keeps his unwavering enthusiasm for Colgate.

When Raiders football played Furman this past weekend in Greenville, S.C., Strobel, one of Colgate's oldest living alumni, was in the stands cheering on his alma mater.

Donning a maroon hat, Strobel joined other faithful Colgate fans for pregame festivities before enjoying the game from the comfort of the stadium's presidential box. He also met with Raiders players and coaches at Friday night's team dinner.

And check him out. He's 102? Doesn't look a day over 70! xsmileyclapx

Brilliant idea. Wouldn't it be great if someone could contact him or his family and get him to post few words? I'm sure the Booth Review wouldn't move Mr. Strobel to Smack even if he had a few ugly remarks about Syracuse.

He must have some great stories from nearly 90 years of Colgate football.

I undertand he played on the 1931 Andy Kerr team and his daughter is a prof at Furman. BTW, Furman is a beautiful looking school and the same size as Colgate. If this game does not impress our presidents that great football can be achieved by small high quality schools I don't know what can.

We appreciate the kind words. Furman alums take pride in the fact that our University is one of the very few of its kind in the U.S.

Strobel's daughter, Marian, was the Chair of the History Department during my years. She is well known for her rapport with students as well as her thick New York accent. :)

This is great! I read this thread with great intrest as my grandfather was Colgate class of '25. He played on the first lacrosse team and was captain his senior year. His commitment to Colgate continued as he was the quasi SID/AD through the late 20s. Although PopPop was very good friends with Dick Harlow who left Colgate to coach Harvard and scouted future opponents for the coach, he attended many Colgate games in the 30s and certainly would have seen Mr. Strobel play.
