Article on one of the names already in San Marcos...

San Marcos — Bryan Hill isn’t scared of competition.

It seems like wherever he plays, Hill continues to face it head-on.

As a quarterback at Smithson Valley High, Hill fought for the starting nod even though his father was the head coach. Hill earned the opportunity to start his final two years with the Rangers and guided them to a 22-4 record.

At the University of Houston, Hill redshirted in 2007 and while he was on the active roster, didn't see any action. Hill sat third on the depth chart and would have needed a miracle to knock Case Keenum (who is a Heisman Hopeful this season) off his perch.

Hill transferred to Texas State in 2008 and once again found himself behind a stud quarterback (Bradley George) and the heir apparent (Tim Hawkins).

The highly touted true freshman will have every chance to take the job...

Arndt wants Saturday’s game to help prepare him for Texas State’s preseason workouts, which begin Aug. 6. Even though he will be a true freshman, Arndt is expected to be in a three-way competition for the Bobcats’ starting spot.
The other candidates to replace Texas State’s all-time passing leader Bradley George are Tim Hawkins, who backed up George last season, and UTEP transfer Andy McCloud.
“It’s pretty much wide open,” Arndt said.
Texas State head coach Brad Wright said Arndt will get every chance to prove himself beginning Aug. 6.
“Our plans for Tyler will depend on how quickly he learns the offense and how he adjusts to the speed of the college game,” Wright said. “Tyler will get more reps and will progress faster because of it.”
