After seeing limited playing time as a redshirt freshman, the big, athletic lineman comes into fall camp tabbed as the starter at right gaurd ... will likely also continue to contribute on field goal/PAT units, where he was a main cog in ‘08.

2008: Appeared in 12 games, mainly on special teams ... did see action on the line in six games ... turned in best performance of the season versus Presbyterian, grading out at 85 percent over 20 plays ... was in for 27 snaps versus Jacksonville and Chattanooga and received identical 77 percent grades for both performances ... recorded three knockdowns versus JU.

Jeff Conway, Sam Houston State assistant head coach and wide receivers coach, came with Bearkat head coach Willie Fritz from Central Missouri and also served on Fritz's staff at Blinn Junior College.

Conway was the first assistant named to Bearkat staff by Fritz after being named as Sam Houston's 14th head coach in December, 2009. Conway was associate head coach and wide receivers coach at Central Missouri.

During Conway's six years on Fritz's staff at Central Missouri, the Mules rolled up a 41-24 record including an 8-3 mark in 2009 and seven victory seasons in 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2008.

Previously, he worked six seasons with the University of New Mexico. From 1993 to 1996, Conway was Fritz' s offensive offensive coordinator at Blinn Junior College for teams that rolled up a 39-5-1 record and won two NJCAA national championships.

Conway's coaching career began as an assistant his alma mater, Northwestern Missouri State. In 1984 and 1985 he was a graduate assistant along with Fritz at Sam Houston State on teams that went 16-6 and won a Gulf Star Conference championship. Conway also served as an offensive coordinator at Missouri Western and as an assistant at Lamar.

At New Mexico from 1997 to 2003, Conway served as coordinator of special teams and recruiting and also coached wide receivers, tight ends and running backs.

Conway is a 1981 graduate of Northwest Missouri State where he earned is bachelor's degree in finance and played football as a free safety from 1978 to 1981.

Conway is a native of Knoxville, Iowa. He and his wife, Jolene, have three daughters - Callie, Patsy and Bobbi.
