SLC Commish Tom Burnett just tweeted that Frisco is THE fastest growing city in America...

According to census population estimates that came out Tuesday, Frisco has emerged as the number one fastest growing city in the United States. McKinney was not far behind, ranking third in a list where Texas claims four of the top ten leading cities in growth.

“The reasons Frisco has enjoyed continued growth even during the current recession is due to its location, great schools – Frisco ISD also is the fastest growing school district in the country – excellent city planning and the overall positive business climate in Texas,” City Manager George Purefoy said. “Texas continues to prosper due to its positive business image, which includes no state income tax and its ‘right-to-work’ labor policy.”

Still too far from Hilo. Hilo High has some grass and bleachers. We should get a turn!

Edit: I see where my thread was merged into a pre-existing one that I missed (and I did take a quick look). I should have guessed that TexasTerror would have already been all over the story. :)

To help with their growth - heard they were opening a Buffalo Wild Wings in Frisco! Wish we had one here in NOLA. :(

Yep I live about 10 minutes from there and there's not a shortage of places to eat, hotels, etc. Hope the Bison or a western team get there so I can rep the West.

More from Frisco, where the NCAA & SLC teamed up for an event today that seems to have gone really well...

FRISCO, Texas - The Southland Conference, which will play host to the 2010 NCAA Division I Championship Game, has teamed up with NCAA Football's Youth Initiative and hosted a free youth clinic Saturday, July 31, from 9 a.m. to noon at Dr. Pink Field at Pizza Hut Park.

Held in conjunction with the Frisco Football League, the clinic's 300 available spots were reserved in less than 72 hours during the Independence Day holiday weekend. This summer marks the third year that NCAA Football Youth Clinics have partnered with bowls and the NCAA Division I Championship Game in various cities to bring young football players together with coaches and student-athletes from NCAA teams for a day-long session of agility drills, offensive and defensive training, and character development. NCAA Football partners with the bowls and NCAA title game to ensure that clinic attendees have the best experience possible as they receive instruction from college football coaches and participate in a series of drills that collegiate student-athletes perform to learn the fundamentals of the game.

Twenty-four football coaches from five Southland Conference universities, including the University of Central Arkansas, Northwestern State University, Sam Houston State University, Stephen F. Austin State University and Southeastern Louisiana University ran the clinic for youth ages 5-14.

Still makes no sense to have this the same time as the Cotton Bowl that's right across town. I don't care how fast Frisco is growing.

I'm loving that the SDN is being touted on AGS. I was working there when we transitioned the paper from weekly to daily status my last semester at McNeese. I was the first sports editor there when it became a daily paper...

Thanks for listing that ;)

No offense to the good people of Frisco, but I had never heard of it prior to it being awarded this game. How far
north of Dallas is it located exactly? What would be its northeastern equivalent in terms of city size, night-life etc. etc.?

Nice soccer stadium... no wait make that outdoor music venue.

Nobody cares about Frisco. The NCAA only moved it to get all the Pizza Hut money. Anyone want to take an over/under on less than 10,000 people being there?

I don't know about Frisco, but I disagree about the stadium. Looks very well done to me, and I'm much more likely to to to Texas than to Chatty if the opportunity ever comes our way.

I found it funny that the ad about the National Championship in SEMO's media guide showed the stadium as a soccer field. They could have at least gotten a picture of it set up for a high school football game or something..

Most all the pictures I have seen - including the official pub - has it shown as a soccer stadium. They'll have to fill it up for an FCS game to use that pictures...

Ugh. Those are all suburban s***holes.

I live near Cape Coral, and it isn't too bad. It's overrun by old retired people, but there's a healthy immigrant population so there are a lot of great Mexican and Latin American restaurants. The scenery, boating, and fishing are great, and you can buy a nice fairly new 3 bedroom house there for under $100K pretty easily right now.

Nope - sharing the links that the SLC Commish Tom Burnett puts out on his Twitter promoting the city...

I was noticing that quite a few schools - FCS, FBS and otherwise - do the same for their city of origin. Smart!
