Our friends at UTSATailgaters.com (http://www.utsatailgaters.com/) are reporting that Drake DC Neal Neathery has emerged as a candidate for the defensive coordinator position...

Though they are not sure that an offer has been extended at this point, they do know that he has interviewed...

Here's Neal's bio from the Drake Bulldogs (http://www.godrakebulldogs.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=15700&ATCLID=1424514) site. Any of our friends from the Pioneer or Drake specifically know anything?

Sounds good to me. Let's create some disruption in the Bulldogs defensive scheme for early next season. Our new OC will be looking to make some sparks fly as Lehigh opens the season in corn country.:)

Drake assistant head coach Neal Neathery has interviewed for the defensive coordinator’s job on UTSA football coach Larry Coker’s staff, sources have told kens5.com.

Neathery has been the Bulldogs’ defensive coordinator and linebackers coach the past two seasons, and handled the same duties at Wabash College for seven years before joining the Drake staff in January 2008.

This has been talked up on the Pioneer football board. It has not even been mentioned or responded to on the Drake board. My older son played at Drake. The head coach and DC have been together for years. This comes as a shock to us. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out.

Appears as is Neal Neathery will be the first defensive coordinator for the University of Texas at San Antonio. Drake is now looking to fill the position.
