Joins Gary Walker, Andre Johnson and Aaron Glenn as the four Pro Bowlers in Houston Texas history. Jerome Mathis, a Hampton grad, was a 4th round pick, similar to Texans RB Domanick Davis who have flourished for the Texans. This is great news and if anyone should be representing the Texans, it should be MATHIS!

I bet the Hampton folks love this...

HOUSTON - Houston Texans rookie WR/KR Jerome Mathis was selected as the 2005 AFC Kick Return Specialist. Mathis leads the NFL with a kickoff return average at 29.8 yards per return and two kickoff returns for touchdowns. He is second in the NFL with 1,402 kickoff return yards, despite missing four games this season.

Mathis has the second highest single season kick return average in the NFL dating back to the 1996 season when Michael Bates had a 30.2 average. Mathis was left off the NFL.com fan ballot, where a record 70.5 million fans voted. The rookie earned the respect of AFC players and coaches who voted him onto the squad.

Good for him. I like seeing former I-AA players doing well and he certainly is fun to watch!
