Well of course they aren't - this is the NCAA after all - but taking the 16 teams and using the coaches poll (only switching the top 4 to match the actual seeds) - here are what the "seedings" would look like ----

1 vs 11 Mont-SDSU
2 vs 19 Villa-HC
3 vs 17 SIll-EIll
4 vs 9 Rich-Elon
5 vs 7 App-SCSU
6 vs 18 W&M-Weber
8 vs 10 McN-NH
12 vs 14 SFA-EWU

How did SIU only get a 3 seed?

The reason I read is that the "committee" rewarded Montana for a perfect season - of course, they played no FBS teams ----

Yeah and the joke just about every year is a CAA team gets to host the Patriot League - no offense to all Patriot League followers but there is no way you guys are on an even playing field with the "no" scholarship thing - I guess maybe some of this will change next year ----

As a Griz fan, I am completely shocked with the #1 seed ... #2 or #3 seemed much more realistic and justified. I will take the #1, however, and let it ride at home as long as we can. Once again, however, I am very nervous about the first-round matchup.

Here's who the CAA has played in 1st round games - since 2000 (including this year)

Big Sky - 2
SoCon - 6
MVC - 6
Patriot - 9
Southland - 2
MEAC - 4
OV - 2

Patriot's were a 1st round opponent in only 29% of their games.

Patriot's were a 1st round opponent in only 30% of their games.

That can't be right, since UR played OVC the past two years.

You must be very young.

A certain team from a certain conference came into Boone in the first round and absolutely dominated your D-line for most of the game, running at will and holding the lead into the second half. You were lucky they didn't convert another TD and have a bigger lead. How many rushing yards did you give up? xscanx

App recovered and survived that game, but they were only a play or two from sending you guys packing. xnodx

Here's how the field would be seeded using the GPI (as you can see, Montana and SIU were tied for third; I gave Montana the higher seed, as that's what the committee ended up doing):

1. Villanova (1)
2. Richmond (2)
3. Montana (3t)
4. S. Illinois (3t)
5. William & Mary (5)
6. Appalachian St. (6)
7. Elon (7)
8. New Hampshire (8)
9. S. Dakota St. (9)
10. E. Washington (10)
11. S. Carolina St. (11)
12. Weber St. (12)
13. McNeese St. (14t)
14. SF Austin (16)
15. E. Illinois (25)
16. Holy Cross (30)

According to those seedings, the bracket would look like this:

16 Holy Cross @ 1 Villanova
9 S. Dakota St. @ 8 New Hampshire

13 McNeese St. @ 4 S. Illinois
12 Weber St. @ 5 William & Mary

15 E. Illinois @ 2 Richmond
10 E. Washington @ 7 Elon

14 SF Austin @ 3 Montana
11 S. Carolina St. @ 6 Appalachian St.

However between the Patriot and MEAC - that's almost 50% ----

We lost to UMASS last year by a field goal.

We blew out Northeastern this year who had scholarships.

I'm not buying it.

Also, remember that Colgate made it to Chattanooga and lost to Delaware in 2003.
