For those of you making the trip down to the bayou, please feel welcome to come and tailgate Friday night and before the game Saturday. The tailgating is Lake Charles is prominent, and you can find a wide variety of food and drink behind the baseball field on Common Street. Don't be shy, come up and talk. You'll get used to the coonass accents pretty quickly. xlolx

Restaurant suggestions for Friday & Saturday:

(Casual Dining)
- Tony's Pizza
- Raisin' Canes
- Izzo's Illegal Burrito
- Darrell's <---- widely considered to be the best sandwich you will EVER eat. People have started facebook groups about it. xthumbsupx
- Dairy Barn
- Southern Spice

(A little finer dining)
- Pats of Henderson
- Pujo St. Cafe
- Harlequin
- The Landing
- L'auberge Casino Restaurants <---- the buffet is phenomenal
- Casa Manana

(Drinks/Bars)
- Frosty Factory <---- a popular spot for tailgaters as it is right across from the baseball field/main tailgating spot.
- Caribbean Hut <---- right next door to Frosty, same kind of drinks
- Cooler's
- Yesterday's
- OB's Bar & Grill
- Jack Daniels Bar (inside L'auberge)

If we can be of any help to y'all when y'all come down, let us know. We hope you have a wonderful time, safe trip, and an injury-free game.

Sounds like a great time....I just can't pull the trip together at this time.
McNeese is a trip I'd love to make. Looks like a first class place and should be a great game.

I wish this game was on TV so the people of NH could see what other teams at this level have for stadiums ect.

I'd love a home and home down the road with you guys.

One of my best friends growing up moved off after my sophomore year of high school, and he went to UD.

He loved it.

We'll take in any Yanks down here. But, hey, don't get mad at us when you don't wanna leavexsmiley_wix

Should be about 70 at game time. May dip into the upper 60's. UNH folks will be in their tees in the heat wave. When I was in the Marines, stationed in Portsmouth, NH , late November was not real pleasant for a Southern boy. Then it got worse. I didn't slip and fall on my butt until the last snowfall the first week of April. Proud of that. Summers were nice though - both days.

Note: New Englanders are just like Cajuns. They talk funny, but if you treat them right they will give you the shirt off their back (next summer). If you mess with them, you have a problem. My landlady would invite people over to hear me say "Y'all". After I made a gumbo for them, they didn't care how I talked anymore.
Love 'em. First post-retirement trip is back to Portsmouth-Kittery.:D

Are any of you UNH fans coming down? I need a UNH hat for my opponents' hat wall in my office (see picture below). I'm willing to pay for it plus supply food and drinks, if you bring one for me.

We are located in tailgating spots 14 & 16 (numbers painted on the road) in the Westside Reserved Tailgating Area which is located behind the left field wall of the baseball stadium (and across the street from the Frosty Factory).

Here is a picture of the hat wall in my office. Note: This picture is outdated by over a year as I've have added a few new hats since it was taken.

Hell, all they have to do is go to Doc's Shots and look at all the tailgating and game pictures (minus the App St. game which I couldn't make).

Unfortunately, I know a lot of the "regulars" who usually travel anywhere, will not be able to make it as airfare $$$ seems to be especially prohibitive this year...

You can fly roundtrip from Logan to New Orleans for $304 on United. Leave on Friday morning, return on Monday morning.

I would figure rates into DFW would sky rocket this week but nothing unexpected compared to years past. I think DFW flies into the airport in Lake Charles, but I'm not too sure.

I really hope to meet some Yanks this weekend and show them a good time.

384 on SWAL into Houston Hobby.

Only about a 2 1/2 drive from there.

wow! those pregame pictures are pretty awesome, wish UNH had an atmosphere like that, maybe with a National Champs title and a new stadium we could get something like that.

I don't think it has anything to do with national championships. Youngstown had won one already and while they were by their cars grillin dogs in ch00 ch00 we was having gumbo on the side of a bud truck at the pavillion with live music.

Those are much better rates than I saw out of Hartford (CT)!! I saw a great deal (~$225) out of Boston on AirTran in Houston if you could return on Tuesday. xoopsx Not as attractive coming from CT knowing you have two plus hour drives through major metropolitan areas on both ends of your flights.

Unfortunately, many people can't take Monday off and need to return on Sunday. That's where the problem lies. Any seats left are beyond expensive.

Believe me, the hard core fans want to be there badly and they aren't deterred easily. But this short notice, Thanksgiving weekend travel either pushes people financially or just is incompatible with family responsibilities.

True, but New England is professional sports dominated, a lot of that is because of the championship history, celts, pats (recently), sox (recently/long past), and bruins. Perhaps if UNH were to become Title contenders every year, we would garner more fans and media interest.

Sad to hear many UNH fans won't be able to make it. I would like to meet some of you guys from AGS, but if y'all can't make it that is understandable. If you've got some friends going though, make sure y'all let them know about the recommendations I made in the original post and to come visit us at the tailgates.
