Not really. Maybe Richmond a little, but at 2 and 3 they would've met in the semis anyway. The difference is who's at home.

What's interesting is that in all but 2 matchups, the higher rated team is the home team.

Oops, had to correct for SFA-EWU.

Actually now that I think about it, that's not all that interesting. You knew in 4 games the higher rated team would be at home, so it's really just a 50-50 split.

UM has No. 9, 10 and 14 on their side...I'm sure they'll take that quarterfinal matchup.

Assuming they make it out of the first round?

In 2003 #2 Delaware faced #5 Southern Illinois. In the end you have to beat all the good teams. The constant whining about who faces who gets really old. xreadxxreadxxreadx

So sorry that I had an opinion here

In first round matchups, I suppose they got tougher foes than they should have. But hosed, no.

3 games wound up exactly as they would have if the field was seeded 1-16 (by GPI). The only teams that flip sides of the brackets are SDSU and SIU.

Also, the potential 2nd-round games W&M @ SIU and UNH @ Villanova are the same in a 1-16 bracket. Elon @ Richmond should be a second round game. Funny, the semis wind up the same if seeds hold (with Montana home instead of UR, however).

The "hypothetical" bracket:

1 Villanova
16 HC

8 UNH
9 SDSU

4 SIU
13 McNeese St

5 W&M
12 Weber St

2 Richmond
15 EIU

7 Elon
10 EWU

3 Montana
14 SFA

6 App St
11 SC St

Under the brackets now, the average rating of the teams the seed could face are:

'Nova - 12.3
UM - 11
UR - 8
SIU - 10.67

If all sixteen were rated, the average rating would be

'Nova - 11
UM - 10.3
UR - 10.67
SIU - 10

So, everybody but UR gets it a little easier and they do get a little screwed.

Montana's has by far most difficult game of all the seeds. Even in Missoula, SDSU is actually favored by a few fractions of a point using this week's Sagarin predictor ratings. I expect UM to win, however.

Elon is ranked higher than SDSU on Sagarin Predictor.

Looks like not only UR and Montana got hosed, UNH got hosed by having to travel across the country to a team with a lower rating!

Seems like a pretty fair bracket, best since regionalization. Griz fans, really guys, #1 seed and you have to face the #9, and then #10 or #12 in the second round. You should be dancing in the streets.

Not so. UM has the easiest bracket.xnodx

I like the Jacks and hope they pull the upset on behalf of the MVC, but the sad truth is that they were exposed by SIU. Griz win fairly easily.

What else is new regarding UNH and them traveling for the playoffs. The committee always placing UNH with a team they know it cannot outbid, unless they are seeded. With UNI being out of the playoffs this year, the committee were going to send us to either Boone, Orangeburg, or Lake Charles
