Wow, look at all the haters just pooring it on. SDSU is playing very well just like the majority of Griz fans thought they would. The saying is as old as football, a strong Defense and winning the turnover margin will win many more games than you lose.

2nd Half has started so lets hope the Griz come out and play real GRIZ football.

The Jacks scored 48, but you cannot say the Griz defense gave up 48. Turnovers etc. gave the Jacks a short field or points.

Hauck's genius wisdom: Don't turn it over.

Hey, Bobby. How about: Win at the point of attack.

Montana hasn't done that at all so far. SDSU is dominating at the line of scrimmage.

105 yards for Montana.
195 for SDSU, including 108 by Kyle Minett.

0 yards rushing for Montana.

Coach, He was saving his pointed attack till he had SDSU right where he wanted them.

Okay, I was at this game today, and here are some thoughts...

The Wa. Griz crowd was the quietest I have ever heard it, about 1/2 way through the 3rd... even on the crowd's first down chants, they were basically lethargic.

Mariani is the single biggest gamechanger I can remember the Griz having in years.

How does Selle throw those two incredibly horrible, direct-to-the-other-team interceptions, and still have confidence to play as well as he did in the 2nd half.

Why did SDSU get away from their powerful running game so often. Their quarterback made some big throws, but was very inaccurate for much of the game.

The referees were simply a joke for this game, especially in the first half, they missed many penalties.

And, finally, this definitely ranks as the greatest game/comeback I have ever witnessed in person, I am very sorry for the SDSU fans tonite, I am sure they felt they had the game won, and took a stomach-punch. BTW, props to their fans who made the roadie to Missoula, they did good by themselves.

21 points came on turnovers inside the 20 and a blocked punt...

my thoughts after getting back.

That was the greatest football game i've ever witnessed in person. Marc Mariani led this team to a win. Who was that man who came out in the Andrew Selle jersey in the 2nd half? Once we were down by 7 the entire stadium knew we were going to win the game. It was electric in there. I can't even type coherently.

Fun facts: Marc Mariani had 12 catches 171 yards 2 TDs and a kick return to the house.
SDSU allowed 41 TOTAL second half points all year, 47 to the Griz. Missoula is gonna be rockin tonight.

With the Griz success over the last 17 years and each coming year there are more people in the stands that aren't true fans. People are there as a business expense, tickets are given to them by family, friends, neighbors or they're just there to "be seen"....(and you know who you are, although those types aren't likely on AGS). The overwhelming majority of fans there are true fans, but it doesn't help the noise level with those folks occupying seats.

Also, UM needs to stop treating the game environment like it's an NBA game. I don't care about the "Kiss Cam" and t-shirt gun.

No question the Griz Game Day environment is one of the best in all of college football, but it could still be improved. Get LOUD for SFA Griz Nation.

Ok - I will say this...the first half and half of the 3rd quarter of this game made me sick! The rest of the game was fun to watch!! I knew with 5 minutes left in the 3rd quarter that we were going to win - no logical explanation for it other than just knowing that the team that I was watching was not going to lose this game.
I will say this however....can't spot the next team 2 and a half quarters of football and expect to come back and win like that. I pray that this win doesn't give us a hangover!

I was up at family cabin above Philipsburg painting some walls, so we naturally listened to the whole game. I cannot believe how poorly UM played in the first half on offense, and then came back to hang 34 points on SDSU in the 4th quarter. I say this every year and I'll say it again: to all griz fans, you have absolutely NOTHING to complain about. Even bad officiating. You guys have a team and a venue that any program would kill to have. So when I hear crap on the radio from one of the announcers where they are basically bashing the team, I have no patience for that. When SDSU was driving down the field in the second quarter, I distinctly remember the "color guy" saying, "How hard is it?" He was basically trashing the defense over the air. If I were a fan, I would want that guy gone faster than a bullet from a gun. Again, what I witnessed via the radio broadcast today was probably the singlemost incredible swing of momentum I can ever remember in a game involving a BSC team. You griz fans should be damn proud of what you have. But just remember how lucky you all are when things don't go exactly as you want them to. Your neighbors to the east are well versed in being screwed over, and would do just about anything to be where you are.

Now go and beat the crap out of SFA. I'll be listening and rooting for my Montana brethren!xthumbsupx

There is no horse collar call in college football. They threw a flag on a horse collar tackle, and then made up a facemask call. These refs were absolutely terrible. They missed P.I.'s when they wanted to and didn't call two blatant clips on kickoffs and punts that were right in front of refs. I just wish the refs would let the teams play football. Well, it was clearly out of bounds by 1/4 to maybe 1/2 inch on the replay. Unfortunately, part of the game is mistakes by the refs. Thank goodness it didn't matter in the end.

I wasn't saying a word for the last part of the 2nd quarter and through the 3rd. I was disgraced. We got lucky today. Today there was an "i" in team. Marc Mariani carried the team on his shoulders. This was a horrible performance and I pray to God we decide to come out and play next week. I will only cheer if there is something to cheer for. If I work hard for my team, they have to work hard for me. The O-line looked like they just got up from there after-thanksgiving nap.

Let's get it together and re-group for next week. It was a great comeback but almost gave me an ulcer for the first half and half of the second half (alot of halves).

I can't blame the refs on that. We should have never been in that position in the first place.

My view of the game that I watched: You can say SDSU had a meltdown in the second half, but Montana had the worst 1st half of football I've everseen from them. That was a HUGE meltdown by montana in the first half to even be in the position to have to make a come back.

In the end the better team won.

I agree with this. Montana got themselves into the position they were in. Absolutely a stunning show in the 4th quarter. 34 points for the good guys and 0 for SDSU. Great game South Dakota, you guys played great!! As I recall you didn't play your starting back for about 2-3 possessions in the late 3rd, that may have affected you. Jeez, I gotta speak up for the Jacks here. They played one helluva game - and I don't think it was their collapse in the fourth quarter so much as a Griz comeback.

I will agree, though, with everyone else who has brought up the old tautology of the prevent defense. I saw them playing a soft zone and thought, hmm, just maybe.

One nice thing about the FCS playoffs - you have absolutely no idea what to expect. If you had asked anyone - and I do mean anyone - on this board what the probability of Montana having to score 40 unanswered points to pull this off against the #5 defense in the country, you would have gotten a lot of "absolutely zero percent" responses. Heck, I would have been one of them.

Super kudos to the jacks - their fans on here have been classy all year, and I really wish it had been someone else out there today to be on the receiving end.

And man, I would REALLY love to see us play you guys on a regular basis - great coach, great fans and a great team.

The rule changed in college in 2008. The horsecollar tackle is now illegal.

INDIANAPOLIS -- The NCAA banned the horse-collar tackle from college football.

Following the lead of the NFL and acting on a proposal made by its Football Rules Committee, the NCAA will assess a penalty this season when a runner is yanked to the ground from the inside collar of his shoulder pads or jersey.

It was a seriously gassed Rabbit defense in the 4th. That contributed as well as the Offense and Defense for the Griz being fresh, and then energized by the 98 yard runback. We have good 2 deep depth and wear teams down in the 2nd half as we platoon all game long. I think another big factor was poor QB play in the first half followed by Selle just catching fire in the 2nd half. What a battle, great comeback. Props to a tough Rabbit team.

a non championship team doesn't come back from a 41-14 deficit either. The other thing a championship team doesn't do is score 61 points. We are a championship team.

congrats to the griz on the big win, but your schedule is out of your hands now

As a GSU fan I would like to thank SDSU for outchoking GSU's debacle at Texas State in 2005. We wore the mantle proudly of greatest choke in playoff history (even fired the coach) for four long years but we gladly cede it to SDSU now.

That was by far the worst 4th quarter I have ever seen in my life. I was lucky enough to make it back to the house to see the last quarter on ESPN. They showed the highlights and the last 5 minutes of the game. I couldn't even believe the total collapse. The bunny rabbits should bury their heads in the sand never to return again. I don't care how gassed you are, you can not give up a lead like that unless you are trying. I mean, you have to try to do it that badly. Congrats to Montana, but you got a early Christmas present and you know it. Two actually! Idaho State and SDSU both gave you an early present. I am still amazed at the stupidity of SDSU. All I can say is WOW!

What was the "stupidity" of SDS?

That was the BEST 4th quarter I've ever seen in my life.

Montana did not get an early X-mas present. Montana played with the hearts of champions. Despite 4 first half turnovers and a blocked punt for TD early in the 3rd quarter, Montanascoring 6 straight TD's and holding SDS to two first downs during that period.

After what ASU had to do to win yesterday, it's surprising to hear such BS coming out of that area of the country.

I don't think Indiana State gave up 48 points to the Jacks.xeekx

I guess you could say the while UNI has choked longer, SDSU has choked better.xoopsx

Yes, maybe the most electric feeling crowd in the 4th. The kind of game that you are proud to have witnessed, and that 75,000 will claim to have attended years from now.

“I am exceedingly proud of my football team,” said coach Bobby Hauck, who watched his 12-0 club commit four first-half turnovers, which led directly to 17 Jackrabbit points and a 34-14 deficit. “The assistant coaches did a great job of holding that thing together and the players did an outstanding job of doing what we teach them from the day they walk in the door – which is fight to the finish and scrap and claw for every yard."

“And we needed all of them.”

Hauck on Andrew Selle

“Nobody in the room except the guys that have played quarterback understand how much courage that takes,” Hauck said. “To essentially stink it up ... (and then) how much courage and competitive fire and spirit it takes to be able to come back and lead your team to victory.

“He’s a special competitor and that showed today.”

My neighbor who just moved here from North Dakota went to his first Griz game yesterday. He's a sports nut that watches football constantly. Here's what he said after the game.

"I have watched thousands of football games in my life, Pro, College, and High School. That was the greatest comeback I have ever witnessed!"
