You know...I complain every week about UNH being so low in the polls compared to 'Nova and W&M.

Well, note to self...this is why. Loss to a mediocre team, narrow win over a mediocre team and now a 1 score lead entering the 4th to one of the worst teams in the country at home...

This team is primed for a first round upset and a throttling next week at W&M.

WrenFgun your comments are ignorant. You call for every coaches head and are a typical New England fan. Be quit and route your team on to victory. We are ranked high and have a strong program. Trust the staff that has got us here. The point is to win games and we have been doing alot of that. Its not always pretty I agree but being 1 and 0 on Saturday night is all that matters.

Sorry UNHFan99, this was a pathetic defensive performance against a less than mediocre football team. The defense got burned again and again and again by a simple screen play. That translates into pathetic coaching, call it what it is......

Its not just winning, play like this and it won't be close next week. Do I think we should fire the coaches? No. Do I think they were unprepared for the game? Yes.

You know, as an ardent supporter of the program (season ticket holder, haven't missed a game in many years) I find this level of insinuation as ignorant. If you're fine with poor coaching decisions in key situations then more power to you. I'm calling it like I see it. UNH continued to blitz today despite the fact that they got burned a BUNCH of times on third down. They also made numerous questionable offensive playcalls by which they have done similar for the rest of the season.

I will root for this team no matter what but this level of perfromance against a bottom-dweller is absolutely unacceptable.

UNHFan99
November 7th, 2009, 02:42 PM
I also remember as far back as 4 yrs ago the coaches being questioned then. The staff is completely overturned with a pac 10 head coach, and the 4 coaches at BC now. I do not think the play will be similar next week. I agree we should have played better but at some point the players have to make the plays too. Those long passes need to be broken up. My opinion would be that the players were trying too hard to make highlight real plays instead of staying within themselves.

UNHFan99
November 7th, 2009, 02:47 PM
Bottom line is the point is to win the game. We won. That is why FCS is better then FBS. Style points dont matter. The players could care less what the score was. they got the W they know they didnt play great and they also know that this kind of effort wont get it done against W+M or in the playoffs. Trust me, they will have very focused practices this week and will be ready to go next week.

WrenFGun
November 7th, 2009, 02:49 PM
I mean, regardless of execution, how can you NOT question the coaching on the predictable blitzing? I could've shut the game off and had a 100% accuracy rate on predicting blitzes.

UNHFan99
November 7th, 2009, 02:59 PM
I trust this staff. Mgowen is a good D coordinator and will probably be the next coach plucked from our staff in my opinion. The defense was ranked 2nd in the CAA going into this week. The gameplan wasnt getting the results you might have wanted but at no point was the game in jeopardy of being lost. To say fire the staff must have been a joke.

WrenFGun
November 7th, 2009, 03:02 PM
Obviously I'm using hyperbole.

Would you prefer that I suggest the entire staff did a terrible job of game preparation for today? The defensive gameplan would've been just as useful if drawn up by a middle school student.

WrenFGun
November 7th, 2009, 03:03 PM
By contrast, I am suggesting that it is the horrible defensive gameplan (and frankly, horrible defensive back play) that made Rhody look good.

That said, CPE is pretty impressive.

I tend to agree, but what was even more frustrating to watch was the inability to finish their tackles. How many times did the D make contact only to give up an additional 5 or 10 yards?

As a frequent critic of Toman I have to give him credit today for playing better and making some better decisions (the interception in the end zone not withstanding). I did notice, however, on several occsasions he was throwing off his back foot even when he had time to set up.

Montana's currently losing to 0-9 Idaho St 10-9 in the 4th quarter. Every top team has had bad games against crappy competition. The defense has been great the rest of the year, so I'm not too worried about them stepping it up when necessary.

Let's just forget this week happened and be glad we cam away unscathed. If we beat W&M, we have a decent shot at a seed.

I am concerned about our lack of tackling. How many times did we have their RB stopped only to break 2-3 tackles. also worried about our secondary ( Ryan Hinds specifically) not being agressive when the ball is in the air. Their were some balls that were just thrown up and everytime the URI receivers came down with it. This things have to get corrected this week in practice.

For all of you that think that a win is a win is a win have your heads in the sand. What WrenFGun is saying is that if we don't get these areas fixed in a hurry it will cost us and we all will be talking about what should ahve been. I am as happy as all of you that we won, but not how we played to get it.

We have yet to put together a full game when the O and D are playing well at the same time

Believe me, I certainly have my concerns about this team and am not happy about how we won today. But every top 10 team has looked vulnerable at some point in the season, so I'm trying to keep things in perspective. Despite what happened today, I have confidence in the defense. They've stepped up in every other game this season even though the offense and special team have consistently put them in bad spots. I'm much more worried about the offense, which has looked shaky in several games against crappy teams. W&M will be the litmus test for whether this team is truly ready to hang with the big boys in the playoffs.

I hear what you are saying about the other top 10 teams, however, we have less margin for error. If we don't get a seed, it is a 99% cvertainty that we will be on the road. That isn't true with the other top teams. We don't have the luxury of being vunerable.

watched Rhody in person vs. W&M and on TV vs. UNH.
I think UNH is better team than W&M. Won't be surprised if W&M loses last 2 games. For URI,CPE is good player and RB's and WR's give good work and that alone made UNH try hard for victory. Rhody's O-line below average,D is terrible. No progress made @ all this year.
