Not looking good...

Aston Update...

The injuries keep piling up, but the Bearkats’ latest could be the biggest.

Sam Houston State senior running back James Aston is likely done for the rest of the season after suffering an ACL injury in the first half of last week’s win over Northwestern State.

Geaux Pokes

If we can keep it that close and interesting, I'll be all for it!

I got the Pokes by 13. SHSU does not play well in "The Hole" and Aston is a game-changing player. Poullard won't fare that badly, but Carmichael was a pretty good safety for us...

A majority of our games this season have been close ones. All because McNeese likes to shoot themselves in the foot. They could easily be undefeated if it weren't for penalties and bad special teams. So look for a close game; I'd say 14 pts. or less.

I hate it when everybody's predicting McNeese to win. And this is a logical spot for McNeese to be looking ahead with Texas State next week followed by Central Arkansas to end the season. I'm not taking anything for granted at all.

Fourroux handles the ball three straight times as Pokes open game with ball.

An incomplete pass. Two rushes (3 and 9) to get a first down. Will Henry gets him down both times.

Two Pendland carries - 5 and 11 yards - another first down and McN is in SHSU territory.

TexasTerror
November 7th, 2009, 07:08 PM
Pokes are dead set on running. Fourroux threw his first completion, but it's all running...

A Pendland 31 yard touchdown makes it 7-0 (with the kick) and we are only at the 11:29 mark of the first quarter...

First SHSU offensive play - sacked.

Blake Joseph loses seven.

Kats end up punting and Pokes take over at SH44.

Hey - some life!

Joseph was sacked twice on that first drive BTW.

Joseph to Madkins for 36 yards to McN03...we may be talking!

Joseph to Lucas for 23 yards apparently.

Looks like the Beercats are giving the CowPokes about all they can handle. Playing at home ought to give the Pokes at least 10 points at the "get go." With 13 minutes left the Pokes have already given up 330 yards to the Beercats. :o

To me Sam Houston kind of showed surrender by punting the last time. I mean, you're down 21 halfway through the 4th and you're near midfield. Go for the first down.

TxState_GO_CATS!
November 7th, 2009, 09:52 PM
yah they did something like that a few games ago against...SFA. except there, i think they attempted a 4th Qtr FG with Goal-to-go instead of trying to punch it in.

Ended up losing 42-3.

Things are definitely wacky over in Pumpkin Land...

The Beercats scored 4 Touchdowns in the 2nd half while the Pokes scored 5. Now that's dominance down the stretch. I can hardly wait to hear what the Poke-ees have to say about this show of power.xeyebrowx

I'm just glad they won. I was very worried about this game because I think there was a danger of looking past Sam Houston State to the last two games against Texas State and Central Arkansas.

Their quarterback (who, by the stats I read, did not play against SFA) is very good and they have a very good wide receiver. But they have no defense. That's their main problem.

By the way, the Cowboys did physically dominate. They had 608 yards to Sam Houston's 388. And they rushed for 418 yards on 42 carries...which as you can see is just a hair under 10 yards per rush. I'm not entirely happy with the way the defense played and certainly not happy with the 3 turnovers that led to 21 Sam Houston points but the outcome was never in doubt because Sam Houston's defense was helpless. And I guess that's been a problem for them all year.

I think what he's probably getting at is that it's kind of interesting that something would be written by a SFA fan about McNeese not being dominant enough when it beat a 4-5 team by 21, was up by 28 until a meaningless TD against backups at the end of the game, rushed for 418 yards at 9.95 yards per carry while holding the opponent to 88 rushing yards at 2.4 yards per carry, etc., while on the same day SFA had to score with 2:45 left to come from behind and beat a 1-8 team by three points; giving up 354 yards rushing at 5.8 yards per carry in the process.

I didn't point that out at first because I saw Nicholls State the week before and knew they could be dangerous if they didn't make a bunch of mistakes and I saw that SFA had four turnovers. But it was still weird to see a SFA fan rag McNeese for beating SFA by "only" 21 when his own team barely escaped Nicholls State on the same day.

Anyway, both teams will be playing conference title contenders next week so both had better be prepared to step it up some.
