Would that be on 9/2/06? That would mean the probable Appalachian State at James Madison game would be either 9/9/06 or 9/16/06.

I would have liked to have seen the next years team challenge a I-A team...I think it's tough to make a run w/o a I-A on your schedule...it just slows everything else down....but luckily we play App St. the closest team to I-A in I-AA in my opinion.....

No offense to MD...but MD needs a few easy wins to get that 6th win and get an invitation to a 'coveted' bowl game. They didnt' get 6 wins this year, so they may actually welcome the easy games...not to say that W&M is ever an easy game!!! ;)

I was at the W&M UNC game in 04 and they gave the Heels all they could handle..... Being an W&M alum, it was tough keeping my trap shut while sitting in the blue seats on my son's recruiting trip...... :coach:

I had posted this in earlier threads but I knew that you all were kind of busy with the championship this weekend. ASU and JMU are close to finalizing a series deal with ASU coming to JMU in 2006 and JMU making a return trip to ASU later (2008 or 2009?).

Well, there's one more road game I'd be making in 2006, if it comes to pass.

Hopefully it'll be the matchup of the last two champions!

Thanks for the update Terror! But I have to ask... WTF is up with the Southland?! :asswhip: Looks like McNeese may be the only one with a chance at an at-large.

Heck, you have multiple teams playing multiple IA's - Appy St is showing this year that you can do that and still succeed, but that's just one case out of a lot that go the other way. Not a very high percentage way of making the playoffs. Such is the lure of the big IA payday that some schools almost schedule themselves out of the playoffs.

TypicalTribe

Of all the I-AA teams to choose from, what in the world is Rutgers doing playing Delaware State? I guess since Villanova and UNH have beaten them in recent years, they've decided to stay away from the A-10, but a matchup with a MEAC team is pretty sad, especially as a Jersey boy.

All I see/know for their schedule:

As I said in another thread, there's a great chance the Southland auto-bid winner might not have 7 DI wins and the chance of an at-large is really unlikely.

I think it is funny that furman chose to play a bottom 10 team. I am sick and tired of I-A games having so much credibility when it comes to playoff selection. Furple may win the game, but they lost my respect.

That 'bottom 10' team you are referring to happened to beat NC State, Utah, UVA and BOSTON COLLEGE in 2005...I guess those 4 colleges, along with UNC, make up half of the worst 10 teams in I-A, huh?

Gateway
9/2 Western Kentucky at Georgia
9/2 Illinois State at Kansas State
9/2 Indiana State at Purdue
9/9 Western Illinois at Wisconsin
9/16 Youngstown State at Penn State
9/30 Northern Iowa at Iowa State

It appears that the Gateway may have the toughest I-A schedule next year. All of the teams are in the top 30 this year with the exception of K-State and Purdue. Although I'll admit I haven't really investigated the outlooks for these I-A teams next year. Who knows maybe Penn State will suck xazzx and Y-town walks all over them :D

SWAC's mission: Get more than the one OOC Div I win they got this year to prove they are a viable conference to some degree...

May be tough, especially if Tuskegee goes 2-0 against the SWAC again and PV/TxSo each play some sub Div I competition...

Grambling has nothing to prove.

All they do is roll SWAC teams, lose to one I-A and then slap around Concordia!

2001 was the last time you guys had two OOC wins against I-AA competition (Nicholls and Portland St). McNeese spanked y'all by 32 in 2002 and 11 in 2003. You have nothing to prove because you guys aren't willing to prove anything outside of the SWAC...

I wish Eastern had the opportunity to play against UW or WSU some time. We've had games against other PAC-10 schools in the past. IMO the in-state D I-A schools don't want their recruiting hurt if there is an upset. This year it could have been a possibility.

VMI (hopefully w/new Coach George Welsh) plays Army and their former Keydet Coach Bobby Ross at West Point - I think in SEP 06. I am hoping it will be a Corps Trip for the entire Corps of Keydets to bus/ride up from VA. Last time we played there in 94 or 95 got rave reviews except for the fact we lost 31-9. We always seem to lose those I-A games like 30something to single digits :bang:

I think UR has a great shot at Duke. Yes they beat us 40-14 this year but we were atrocious on offense...we played several I-AA teams that seemed more talented.

Best of luck to all the other I-AAs!

'Nova certainly has a shot against UCF.

Seems to me Villanova has the best chance for "W" out of all of them.

Based on history and what Furman will bring to the table next year. The FU/UNC game will be interesting. Lamb does not play IAA games to lose, he pulled out every trick in the book against PITT. I wonder if we will see the rio-lido offense that Furman ran against Clemson. With Gray at QB, that could be quite a weapon.

Atlantic 10

Actually if Northeastern can position some 14 year old girls and a bong somewhere on the sidelines, they might be able to distract Marcus Vick long enough to make a game of it.

In 2004 we played Bethune Cookman in Cincy and beat them. Our occ games are not all against D1AA team. Sometimes they are against D1A team and a D1AA team.

Since 2000 we've played the following D1A & AA teams
Louisville
San Jose
McNeese (2)
Portland St.
FAMU
Nicholls
Bethune Cookman
Washington St.
Savannah St.

We basically only have open dates the 3rd Sat. in Sept and the 2nd Sat. in Nov. We will never get a quality team (as you people like to say) to play us on the second week in November. We are one of the few team in the country that start the season with 2 conference games.

Again we have nothing to prove to D1AA. The system will find a way to screw you over every time....Ask Hampton. We would have a better ranking and record but would be shipped off to Maine to play. We don't need the playoffs to validate us. Take us out of the polls, weekly awards and end of the year awards. The system will always find a way to say we don't dererve it.

OK so maybe a "bottom ten" team was stretching it a bit. I just know that Furman has a good chance of actually beating UNC, while we have our hands full with State. And my respect for Furman is back after all the congrats we got.

I don't like UNC so it pains me to say this, but you do realize that North Carolina BEAT N.C. State this year, right? 31-24 IN RALEIGH.

I think Furman will be a little down though next year, which is unfortunate when facing a team like UNC.

Actually Furman has decent chance at that game. Bunting never has his teams in great form early in the season. The same year that UNC beat Miami, UNC got just about all it could handle and more against Lang Campbell and William and Mary.

Ok, that was a little uncalled for, but I don't think Carolina is a top I-A program, granted they have made strides in the past few years. No need to get all upset, just a friendly conversation.

I think Furman has a shot against UNC and I think we have a shot at State, though we'll both still be underdogs. Both would be huge wins, particularly if we can beat State in their house. Beating NC State would solidify our "house-hold name" in North Carolina, too. I'll be there.

I think with our showing at LSU and the National Championship, the cat has left the proverbial bag. Any I-A that doesn't take us seriously will lose, and we look to be damn good next year. On paper at least, better perhaps than this year. I'd freakin love to beat State. :splat:

Nov. 11 is actually one of two dates that the Tigers are still looking to fill. GSU/Grambling also typically takes on an out-of-conference foe in Week 3, after the Alcorn and A&M contests.

The school is in scheduling talks to play either Minnesota at the Metrodome or Pittsburgh at Heinz Field on that Sept. 16 date. If contracts are signed, 2006 would mark the third consecutive season that Grambling has played two or more games in NFL venues.

Raymond James is a beautiful stadium with lots of tailgating room (mostly all grass parking lots). I understand they close the upper tier of the stadium for Bulls games and usually get between 30 and 40K in attendance. I should be a great atmosphere.

I think App has a real shot against NCSU. They are losing many of their best defensive players. Their passing game doesn't worry me. If we can stop Toney Baker and Andre Brown etc, then we have a chance. With that said, I'd rather be playing Carolina as well.
