Some notes on this one...

1) St. Joseph's has something that both Southeastern La. and Northwestern State do not have right now - a win over a Division I program.

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/recap?gameId=292482601

2) Noted on the 'View from the Corner Office' thread on KatFans (http://www.katfans.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=102830- the reason we are stuck with a sub-Division I game is because Prairie View A&M bailed out on us late in the game. According to BW, we are working on a resolution and at this point, according to one of our Panther fans who frequent both KatFans and AGS - PV is seeking a buyout.

3) If BW gets his way, also noted in 'View from the Corner Office' - this will be our final sub-Division I team for some time. In 2009, we were supposed to have a full Div I schedule. In 2010, we are set for a full Div I schedule and we're nearly there for 2011.

By the way, do we really need a game thread for a lowly Division II team...?

By the way, do we really need a game thread for a lowly Division II team...?

The thread is created on AGS and KatFans to avoid some of the ridiculous questions that come up through the week regarding how to follow the game (live stats, audio, video, etc)...then again, I do not think it is preventable as many people do not take the chance to read up on what's posted! xwhistlex

A little bout with the flu...

The Bearkats have several players out of practice this week as the flu bug continues to roll through town. Huntsville ISD closed all of its campuses Tuesday and Wednesday because of an increased number of absenses due to the flu.

The Kats’ offensive line has been hit hardest with illnesses and running back Chris Poullard missed another day of practice Wednesday as he recovers from the flu.

Sam Houston will also be without defensive linemen Kevin Smith and Justin Childs, who were injured at Tulsa.

“We are missing some offensive linemen. We have six or eight kids sick with the flu,” Whitten said. “We are probably missing 16 kids in all. It’s frustrating this time of year, but everybody in college football has these same issues.

“We just have to stick together and persevere.”

Madkins was definitely in on that attempt on a TD into the corner. Cody (color) didn't see it, but the play by play guy did...

24-0, 15 secs left in 1st half.

SHSU is up 31-0 in the 3Q.

Joseph hit Madkins - couldn't be denied that go around.

Glad to see the defense holding their own. Regardless of opponent, the results thus have been good.

Ha ha ha... no kidding.. xlolxxlolxxnodx

I watched the game and I was NOT impressed AT ALL!! Our 2nd team couldnt even move the ball. Penalties..turnovers..pathetic. We should have ran the ball down their throats. 371yds of total offense and 41 points against this DII.. 160 yds rushing. Our running game should have pounded their tails for over 200yds minimum. Poor showing in my opinion.

Just goes to show what Coach Whitten really has.

Katstrapper -

BR is not the man to get the job done. The defenses know that we're going to run since he can't throw a lick. Easy to prepare for just the run instead of the pass.

We need some of those true freshmen to blossom this year and be ready for next year. We got the arms ready to go next year IMO. One thing Whitten has done a great job on is recruiting to replace Bomar. When Welch went down, good thing we got Joseph. Randolph can't be our starter, can't see the field.

And don't doubt the offense that much. We just ran it all over them in the first half. Rain played a factor too. How about the defense? A few takeaways and a shutout. Got to like that - regardless of foe.

I believe SHSU moves to 3-2 overall next week with a win over Nicholls. A few inches from 4-1 too. Bet you'd be singing a different note if that was our record. ;)

So Randolph's 429 yds passing in the spring game was a fluke? If it was then that shows how crappy the secondary really is.

Terror, your rose colored glasses are sickening. You really are second string. I cant believe you can sit here and talk this crap. If you are ANY type of football guru, of which you seem to proclaim, you would tell the truth about the crappy regime that exists at Sam Houston.
Sam Houston football is going BACKWARDS with Todd Whitten as coach. You sit here and blow smoke about "Whitten the great recruiter"...blah blah blah. Where are these athletes Terror? Who does he have to replace Bomar? if those kids were phenomenal QB's, they would be starting this year and we wouldnt need Joseph. Newsflash to you...There is a lack of Division I talent on this ballclub. There is too much drop off in the second and third strings and Todd Whitten is NOT a Divsion I coach!! Ok so he got Bomar to some to Huntsville...HE DID NOTHING WITH IT!! He got Blake Joseph to come to Huntsville..whoooopie! He wont do anything with it either. And Blake Joseph ain't all that.
3-2 after next week? Wow, there is a bold prediction.xlolx Nicholls St.. are you kidding me? Have they even won a game yet? Inches away from 4-1..xlolxxlolxxlolx . Makes me laugh. Lets take a look at that..

W. Illinois (middle of road as proclaimed by you, the Swami).... L
N. Dakota St (middle of the road as proclaimed by you, The Swami).. W (by a whisker and much luck. NDSU only win is against Wagner)
Tulsa...(you had no comment). L (got our azzes kicked.56-3)
St. Josephs.. (DII, Liberal Arts School).. W (WAS NOT AN IMPRESSIVE WIN)

And we ran it all over them in the first half? We only had 371yds of offense the whole game. What game were you watching?xrolleyesx

We know how bad the secondary is...

I am not going to talk negatively about the personnel on campus. You know that. Do I feel we should have much better results? Of course I do. Would I prefer to win week-in and week-out, of course I do.

However, I've always made it clear that I will not negatively talk about the staff or any other staff. You'd probably know that if you ventured outside of football talk and realized SHSU has 15 other sports.

Where are these athletes Terror? Who does he have to replace Bomar? if those kids were phenomenal QB's, they would be starting this year and we wouldnt need Joseph.

The talent is there. Haven't you in the past been positive regarding Kyle Webster? Tyler Copeland? Those kids are solid and will be QBs who can make a difference. Joseph was just the gap as TW did not want to burn redshirt seasons if he did not have to.

Nicholls has won a game. Beat a Div I school at that - and yes, inches from 4-1. If you watched the WIU game, perhaps you'd acknowledge such.

Both MVFC teams are 'middle of the road' - middle of the conference teams. However, we do not beat MVFC teams often, nor does the rest of the league. We were inches from being 4-1 and quite frankly, I'll take a split. You had no positive comments after our win against NDSU and got crap from most everyone on KatFans.com (nothing new - since you have nothing positive to say EVER - about any programs on our campus).

And we ran it all over them in the first half? We only had 371yds of offense the whole game. What game were you watching?xrolleyesx

Our top two RBs were averaging about five yards per carry. Is that result not valid? Not worthy? I'll take that against everyone and anyone!

Game story...

The game was sloppy, but the Bearkat defense got a much-needed confidence boost Saturday afternoon.

Sam Houston State shut down Saint Joseph’s College, holding the Pumas to only 126 yards of total offense in a 41-0 drubbing at Bowers Stadium.

Defensive end Edward Decambre and safety Trey Wilder both recorded interceptions and freshman Darnell Taylor recovered a fumble to help the Kats (2-2) pitch their first shutout of the season in the final tuneup before Southland Conference action begins at home next week.

I got crap on that board because most everyone on there doesnt know the first thing about what they are talking about. And as far as you not talking negative about anyone within the program, its not called "negativism". It's called "criticism" and that whole football regime deserves it, starting with the Athletic Director. You can kiss butt if you want to, but I want results!!!!!! That's the difference between me and you.

Wait, didnt you just say I have had no positive comments to say about anyone or anything? Which is it Terror? And why not burn a redshirt year if they are THAT good. Michigan is doing it with their Freshman QB Forcier and look at their success already. Excuses, excuses, excuses.

And as far as positive thoughts, they have been abundant over the years. I am tired of giving and giving and giving to this program and getting nothing in return.
