View Full Version : Weber State @ Portland State

September 26th, 2009, 11:55 AM
Kickoff scheduled for 1 pm PDT at PGE Park in Portland. Buoyed by a trip to the playoffs last year, and a first round win, the Wildcats are led by two returning cogs from that team, Cameron Higgins (QB) and Trevyn Smith (RB). The Wildcats disposed of Idaho State last week and have two close losses to Mountain West's Wyoming and Colorado State. The Vikings are also 1-2 after losing last week to Montana on the road. They have also lost to Pac-10 Oregon State, but got a win in their first home game of the year against Southern Oregon. Drew Hubel will once again start for the Vikings at QB, but the offensive line, which has only allowed one sack so far this year, will be replacing both guards this game. Big loss for the season was Moses Punzal, who was the senior leader on that young offensive line. Punzal suffered a broken ankle against Montana last week. Last time these two teams played in Portland, Weber State took the victory in a nationally noticed 73-68 game. PSU does hold a slight 8-6 edge against WSU in Portland. Weather should be sunny to partly sunny with temps in the 70's.

PSU radio: 800 am KPDQ
No TV in the Portland area. That is what happens when the Ducks are playing at the same time.:(

I don't think I've ever heard announcers as sickeningly homer as these.

I Bleed Purple
September 26th, 2009, 03:25 PM
You haven't heard our Brad Larsen.

I do find it funny about how great the offense was to get a three yard gain and how great the defense was to stop Weber on a three yard gain.

In any case, three and out for Weber.

I liked how they likened a true freshman that made a tackle on special teams to Jim Thorpe.

Should be an interesting 4th quarter. This game is alot closer than people thought it would be, largely because of the PSU defense.

Nice game from both teams!! Congrats on the win Weber!

Yes, quite an entertaining game, as most PSU/WSU games are. For the mistakes we had (missed two FG's, many stupid false start penalties), to actually come back and take the lead late was truly awesome. Also, to watch Higgins orchestrate the final drive was equally as impressive. We had our chances, we just did not execute properly. I knew from the start that we would need a strong, gallant effort to stay with Weber State and that was what we got.

I hate to see the big guys up front get rolled up and the play that knocked out WSU's Wilcox(?) was very bad. IBP said it is a broken leg, I saw that he was not putting any weight on it as he came off the field. Very unfortunate.

Great win for WSU, but we made you work for it.xthumbsupx

Hey Jal, I've heard rumors that the last TD was tipped slightly. Did you get a good look at the play?

JALMOND

Hey Jal, I've heard rumors that the last TD was tipped slightly. Did you get a good look at the play?

I was wondering about that. It looked like the ball went right through the hands of our corner, Ford. To say he was a little upset would be putting it mildly. I was wondering if it was closer than it appeared. Were you able to see any of the replays? Was it close?

I felt bad for Ford. He was the last to leave the field, he was pretty bummed. I kind of thought that it was more so because he went for the INT instead of playing the receiver. As the play unfolded, it looked like he thought he had help behind him. Either he didn't, or the help was late. Probably not proper football jargon, but that is what I thought.

I'm not going to say that play cost us the game, obviously he makes the INT (or makes an obvious tip) and we win the game. But we did well to get us to that point and Ford was instrumental in getting us there. He has no reason to hang his head and I'm sure Glanville thinks the same.

There weren't any replays. I was on pins and needles, so I wasn't watching closely. I was watching Higgins more than the secondary. What it looked like to me was that the safety jumped the quick slant (not really a bad decision) and Higgins hesitated, let the safety pass, and threw it to Toone. The feed was too poor to see the ball clearly in the air, I just saw Toone catch it with no one on him. Toone was behind the corner at that point.

One thing for sure, Higgins really zoomed the ball in there. Had a lot of velocity on it. Whether Ford tipped it or the ball went through, probably we'll never know. It was close either way, close enough for him to be upset about it.

Sucks. My computer wasn't working with Big Sky TV today, so I was forced to listen to the game on the radio. NEVER AGAIN! We seriously need to flood KLO and Carl Arky with enough complaints that he kicks Brad Larsen off his broadcasts. He is absolutely terrible!!

I've gotten the the point where I can't stand him. The funniest thing was that Colton Swan was at the CSU game and he was correcting Larsen all the time. I wouldn't be surprised if he puts himself in there at his own choosing because he has to be at the game anyway and they don't want to pay a color guy to travel with the team. Because of this I am extremely glad to have Big Sky TV so I can watch the game either muted or dealing with the opposing color.

He's way too homer. It's fine to be one, but to hear him have it, there's pass interference on nearly every incompletion and even some completions. He wants holding on the other guys on every good play they have. I can't STAND a guy who continuously complains about the refs, and Larsen does it WAY too much. His knowledge of the rules, especially the newer rules, is limited. He's nothing more than a fan with a microphone instead of an analyst with a rooting interest. A huge difference and I hate listening to the former.
