Pretty ugly game. 3 missed kicks, 2 of the extra points. 2 fumbles by the Raiders, otherwise a lot of back and forth with little to show for it. Ram defense seems to be keying on McCord, we'll see if that lets Colgate open up more with the passing game (which has had some nice pickups so far tonight)

A really ugly end to an ugly game. It was impossible to tell from the video feed whether Fordham got the snap off. Colgate certainly acted as though they had heard a whistle but Fordham fans (and certainly coaches) have to be going ballistic. Colgate did everything it could to throw this game away but Fordham matched them miscue for miscue. Ultimately, a really good win for Colgate. You have to give Biddle credit, he always seems to win these games. I am not sure Colgate deserved to win, but he always seems to win these games.

Gater
September 26th, 2009, 07:39 PM

I'll take that W. Impossible to tell if it got off in time. Even Skelton slowed like he heard a whistle at first. Other than the last drive, the D played well. O had more opportunities to finish but ultimately put up enough points to win.

The Kerrdome with some wind is one of the toughest places to kick. It has the tendency to swirl around the stadium and can be moving in one direction at ground level and another about 10-15 yards up. Saw that tonight with all the missed kicks. They're freshman, they'll figure it out.

A day later, still having a hard time letting go of the screwing the refs gave us at the end of this game. It was intentional. They took the play away from us because the game was at Colgate, and Colgate was favored.

I have never seen a game end like this. If an official believed that the clock had elapsed before the snap, then he should have blown his whistle while running toward the snap with his hands waving over his head. Not a single official gave any indication that the play didn't count. Not one of them waved off the play while it was happening.

And after we score the TD, they get together and screw us. Totally unacceptable, bush league, BS officiating.

When have you ever seen the refs allow a play that didn't count go forward -- until yesterday, every time I have seen a dead play start, I have always seen a ref frantically waving his arms to demonstrate that the play doesn't count.

Letting the play go forward and then taking it away after Fordham scores is unbelievable.

Maybe. But we never get the calls. The number of bad calls that go against Fordham is mind boggling. I've never said anything about it, because you sound like a bad sport when you whine about calls. But yesterday was a breaking point. We get zero respect from the refs.

Enough is enough. I'm fed up with it.

In this case, I'm pretty sure is that what happened is that the Line Judge, who is supposed to monitor the official scoreboard clock and signal dead any untimely play, let the play go as timely; and that another official, lacking the responsibility of monitoring the time, insisted, after the fact, that the play be called dead. I doubt that any official would have second-guessed the Line Judge if it had been Colgate who scored.

Again, I have never seen a "dead" play proceed all the way to conclusion without a single official demonstratively waving the play off while the play was unfolding.

Skelton is for real, and the Rams were tough. They should make some noise in the PL before this is all over.

Unlike the pros, there is no video replay in college, but I would certainly like to see that final play over again on video. I wondered if the refs thought there were not enough Ram players at the line of scrimmage before the snap, and in looking over the situation the clock ran down. They should have stopped the clock if there was a question about lining up, or if there was a penalty to be assessed.

Sorry you guys always seem to get the short end of the stick....xconfusedx

What's done is done. I was watching on line and I was really pumped when they scored the TD .... it was crushing to have that TD taken away, and with it the chance to tie. Our season ended for me when they waved off the TD. A fitting, devastating ending blow to what has been a most disappointing season.

Not as angry today as when I first posted. I have no idea if the ball was snapped in time. I just wished the officials had killed the play immediately. For a sports fan, nothing stings more than being deflated within moments of apparent glory.

Funny thing is we still had to score the two-point conversion to tie.

Oh, come on! This crap about Colgate getting flukes their way all the time is ridiculous!!

For what it is worth, I have seen the ball bounce the other way a hell of a lot in over a half-century of watching Colgate football. Rutgers got an undefeated season in 1976 over a call on Thanksgiving night which was worse than the 2008 Coastal and Saturday's Fordham game combined. The ECAC had to issue a public correction of its officiating crew the following week, but the damage was done. I can also think of many others.

Im with you Go...gate. Calls go both ways. In the 2005 Central Conn-Colgate game the clock showed zero on Cent. Conn last play. Refs put 1 second back on and Cenn Conn came out and kicked the game winning fg... Im sure this will be rehashed if Colgate goes to the playoffs and doesn't win in the first round, most PL posters will tell us how their team would have fared much better

I can certainly understand the frustration

Last year, in the postseason for Hockey, Colgate scored an OT goal to win Game 1 of the series against Quinnipiac. Unfortunately, the officials instead called a penalty on Colgate in that sequence, so instead of the game-winning goal, the game was still tied, and now we were down a man. QU eventually won that game, and would win the best of 3 series 2 games to 1. Now, it was probably a penalty, but given the circumstances, well, I think you can guess...

Like Saturday night for the Rams, it certainly stung, but it's happened to all of us xpeacex

Really, looking at it, I think it is fair to say the officials made a mistake in not attempting to blow the play dead if indeed one of them thought the clock had run out. Someone made a big mistake there, and unfortunately Fordham had to pay the real emotional price

EDIT: And PeacockRaider is right about the CCSU game!!!!!
