First, does anyone put one out? Next, who do they collective geniuses of AGS think should be on it?

I would offer two Colgate players:

Jordan Scott at tailback. 1364 rushing yards, 10 TDs, averaged 124 ypg (and didn't start until the fourth game of the season).

Steve Jonas at offensive tackle. Started all 11 regular season games as right tackle for the Raiders.

James Noble, rb, Cal Poly. He made third team all-american this year.

From Delaware I would offer DE Matt Marcorelle and WR Aaron Love (I have no stats because I am feeling lazy, but I would say they are two players who were very fun to watch)

Schaefer was a two-time "A-10 Rookie of the Week".

Also, from the A-10...

-Offensive Rookie of the Year
Joe Casey - Rhode Island
Freshman, FB, 5-10, 200 lbs., Syracuse, NY/Westhill HS
Casey rushed 235 times for a league-high 1,245 yards - the most ever by a URI freshman and second-most in school history...scored eight touchdowns and topped the 100-yard rushing mark in six of the Rams' 11 contests...his 113.2 rushing yards per game is the highest average by an A-10 freshman since New Hampshire's Azumah (138.1) in 1995...also named to the All-Conference first-team.

-Defensive Rookie of the Year
Sherman Logan - Richmond
Sophomore, DE, 6-4, 245 lbs., Virginia Beach, VA/Kempsville HS
Logan led the A-10 with 11.5 sacks and 14 tackles for loss...the first-year performer registered 54 tackles, including 27 solo stops, and added a fumble recovery for a Spiders' defense that ranked second in the Conference in rushing touchdowns allowed (10) and third in scoring (17.8 ppg.)...also named to the All-Conference first-team

Coen was a Hawaii transfer, right? I'm looking for frosh!!! :)

No, Coen was a Red-shirt freshman recruited and signed by UMass last year.

You're thinking of Hawaii transfer Taylor Humphrey (http://umassathletics.collegesports.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/humphrey_taylor00.html)

He seperated a shoulder during spring (2005) practice. He ended up third string after Coen and Day.

With Day graduating, Humphrey should be in the mix this spring.

You forgot two guys from the list above! Towson's nucleus is in its freshman and sophomores so it doesn't suprise me that some of our most outstanding players are freshman.

I posted Jordan Manning and Marcus Lee's stats above, check em out! I think you'll want them on this team.

Ok, I've been looking around at all conference teams to see Freshmen that haven't already been mentioned. There were some others but they probably wouldn't be put ahead of anyone that is already listed. So I looked at positions that we might need more of. Don't know much about these players, but they did make their all-conference teams.

OL Demario Deese, Fr., Gardner-Webb (First Team All Big South)

DB Patrick Calvary, Fr., Liberty (2nd Team All Big South)
DB Xavier Wallace, Fr., Gardner-Webb (2nd Team All Big South)

DL John Faletoese, UC-Davis (First Team All Great West)

OL - Keith Gergel, Fr., Jacksonville State (OVC All Newcomer Team)

No one else is contributing. The SoCon and Gateway are apparently more worried about something called a "championship"...or maybe its pronounced "kampionship"...who knows...losers...

I realized we need a kickoff specialist...and guess what...Towson's was a freshman!

#35 Mark Bencivengo
6'0", 170 lbs.

62 kickoffs for 3597 yards, average of 58 yards. 6 touchbacks.

I'll put a vote in for Rob Schulte, freshman kickoff return specialist from Montana. He was 14th in the country, with 26.13 yard average, and he also returned a punt for a touchdown.

Jake Phillips of W&M certainly deserves mention among the freshmen QBs.

10 games / 145.82 efficiency / 123-192 64.1% / 1,564 yds. 12 TDs / 183 rushing for 8 TDs / 7 Ints.

Lehigh's Jason Leo had a very good year punting--especially with the number he placed inside the 20. Not sure of his overall stats but his net was good as he has nice hang time. Also has a strong placekicking leg, but didn't really kick until the Lafayette game (4 of 4).

Just located his stats: Placekicking 5/6 with long of 43
Punting: 37.8 avg., Long 52, 10 Fair Catches, 14 Inside 20

The only thing better than watching this young man play is getting to know him. I have had that pleasure for about seven years. Also, those stats are a bit understated since I believe that he wasn't starting or even playing a lot of downs early in the season.

I concur on Marcorelle. At WR I'd offer...

Elliott Mack / W&M
21 rec. / 371 yds / 17.7 per catch / 4 TDs in 10 games.

Similar stats for Shaun Adair at Lafayette . .
22 rec. / 392 yds / 17.8 per catch / 3 TDs in 12 games

also returned six kicks for 143 yards (three for 76 at App State)

4 of his interceptions came in his first-ever game. Also, when you are down big like we were in several games, you tend to force things. You still can't deny he has the ability. I'll put together a highlight reel if you wish. Like when he lit UD up...

He played in all games, but he didn't see much action in the first 2 games. He won his starting position by consistently doing well in practice and in games. His stats would have been much better. I'm telling you, if he continues to progress as he has done so far, he will be one of the top 5 receivers in I-AA in his junior and senior years.

Hope you don't mind, but I copied your comments to Marcus's parents. It will bring them a smile and probably embarrass their son completely (assuming they show it to him). While I will be focusing on Georgetown, I'm hoping to be able to drive up a few miles to catch one of Towson's games. How do they look for next season?

Screw next season, I'm worried about 2007 and 2008 now with all these freshman!

Towson returns to Colgate's schedule as the CAA game those years (with UMass too in 2007). Maybe Towson will be the CAA big gun those years? We've never lost to Towson.... Seeing as our freshman class was darn nice, those games could be great ones! :xmas:

OK, OK we all know why you started this thread. If Colgate hadn't had such a successful freshman class, we would not have heard a peep from Hamilton. ;) :p

You will have to forgive the old man for focusing on 2006. Hopefully I will have reason to use up all the 512 MB on my digital camera each Saturday next fall. :)

Aren't all threads started from selfish interests Pop? ;)

I fully expect to see a few D.C. area or Patriot League 'best linebacker' threads next fall started by, oh, someone you might know.:rotateh::cool::beerchug:

Of course. I guess there is an "I" in P-O-S-T.

Let's not get too carried away with pre-season predictions (although we sincerely appreciate the sentiment). Hoping he stays healthy, focused and keeps the grades up. Then we'll see how much he's on the field and how well he plays.
