My advice on parking would be to park at the Lowes Foods lot on 421 (there is also a Cici's, Big Lots, etc.) and catch the Appal Cart to the game. The town of Boone has gotten so strict on where you can/can't park-- I would be hesitant to park anywhere close to the stadium (without paying $15) in fear of being towed.

Hardees near campus is a decent place. Wilcox emporium lot is $10 or $15.

You could also give $250 for scholarships and get a space in the Legends lot.

G8,

Try west of town. The county buildings on the old Winn Dixie site have parking w/ a shuttle. Not a bad walk either, only about 10-15 mins. If you park on the west side then you can stop at Cafe Portafino xthumbsupx before heading down Poplar Grove Rd. to 105 and 221. Many people are now catching the appalcart from Boone Mall as well as New Market (as was mentioned earlier).

I used to live at Mountaineer Apts, so I know where you're talking about. I just can't believe that our success over the last few years has driven us to parking at the mall, out 421, etc. just to get to the game, but I guess it's better than the alternative.

I give ASU some cash every year, but $250 for me to get parking for maybe 2 home games a year is steep - kind of like paying $500 so I can have first come/first serve at Raley where I parked for free for all those years. xnonono2x

I am 99% sure it's still there, and if I were you, I would try this:

There is a lot right in front of the old emporium and kind of behind Portofino. That place only charges like 15-20, and it is almost like having a Raley spot. My senior year (2006) we always parked there, but you have to get there early. Only thing that really sucks is that it's gravel. But it was the best by far outside of any Yosef club lots.

Thanks for the suggestion - we'll be up there Friday night - just curious about how late is "too late"? I'm not sure I can get the wife to go for a 6 hr tailgating session. xlolx

We park at the gravel lot beside that one (corner of rivers/waters) and it was full by 10am last week (they didn't make students move out of it). So would be tough any time past 10:30am I'd say.

Parking is horrible this year, every place is at least $15 and all full by 11.

The donation is tax deductible. Don't look at it as paying for parking. Look at it as supporting ASU athletics. By the way it takes a $1,500 donation to park in Raley and you get a numbered spot.

That's about when me and my friends got there for McNeese game. Only decent tailgating spots we could find were the church lots on King Street. The Baptist lot next to the library doesn't allow alcohol. The Presbyterian lots down the street allow alcohol and are like 5 bucks cheaper so that's where we ended up.

It was just an ok spot. Seemed like most people just parked there and walked to other tailgates. There were only a couple other groups actually tailgating in that lot.

I'm stoked for this. I'll be there.

The last two App games I made it to were the Halloween game last year (a real drumming... Go 'neers.) and Black Saturday the previous year (when GSU broke the at-home win streak. D'oh!)

I'm hoping for the former rather than the latter.

Samford's NOT to be overlooked, but if our D looks alive, I think we'll be okay.

I miss my old Boone days. I always lived on either King street or On the hill between 421 and 321, and could walk to games. After graduating, I didn't get to go to many games because I worked retail management, and all our employees were students who were going to the game, so I was left to run the store. :(

I listened to Armanti's conference call (kinda funny) and Jerry Moore's pregame shows on goasu.com and I have to admit I'm feeling a bit better - it sounds like they've had some good practices, getting back to fundamentals, and are ready to get their first W. They both emphasized that we're still 0-0 with the goal to win the conference. This will be a good test with Samford's D.

I don't know if it will make a hill of beans difference, but the rain may even the playing field just a little. Samford is a grindout offense who probably will have a little less trouble with the rain than App State's finnesse attack.

Not too worried about the rain, definately think the Run Offense for App is improved this year and have 4-5 fresh runs to move in and out.

Wonder if the cooler weather (high of 56 or so) will affect the 'bama guys.

It will also make it harder for Samford defenders to react to cuts in the open field against Armanti, Moore, and in pass coverage.

without question the most complete half of the season thus far. samford had 71 yards of total offense, devon moore had 104 by himself. taliaferro was 1 for 11 for 4 yards, mostly because of the pressure by app's d-line. even our field goal unit (who we all know can be adventurous at times) played well. the only reason samford got anywhere close to the red zone was because of stupid penalties by ASU, which is probably my biggest gripe so far. AE has been AE, hopefully these trends will continue in the 2nd half. samford needs to find a quick strike attack if they want to get back in the game and based on the way they played in the first half I dont see that happening.

Skjellyfetti

Good job on Defense today - both for ASU and Samford.

But that being said....

I know that Samford has a good defense, but this is just 2nd half performance by our offense is just plain pitiful.

I think that we got up early at the half and people have just gotten complacent.

Complacency is a term that I think defines ASU well in the last few years. It almost seems like our players think that because we won three NC's in a row and have an immensely talented team, that we are invincible.

We played poorly for 3 quarters at ECU, and almost won - which I think lulled us into a false sense of security. We got smacked in the face by a good McNeese team last week, something that NEVER should have happened, and that should have been a wake-up call. Maybe it was for the defense. Our offense needs to heed the warning signs that are abounding.

This was not a good outing. This was a "decent" half-a-game with an overall solid defensive performance and an overall wretched 2nd half offensive performance.

I don't think our offense stalled out in the second half because of the complacency of the players. I think our playcalling was too conservative...

But, our conservatism was outdone by Pat Sullivan. They scored their touchdown and didn't really show any interest in winning the game after that. Kicking deep, punting on 4th down, etc. I didn't really understand that.

Good game Samford, looking forward to a trip to Birmingham next year. I have a lot of family there and in Gadsden. xthumbsupx

after being at the game and sittin through that mess, its really not that surprising that the offense sucked in the second half

Back from a misrable weather day in Boone, happy with the D, O got conservative along with Sammy D adjustments in 2nd half. I'm still moist.

This ASU team has a ton of potential, but is inconsistant at best right now. The defense was outstanding and without the stupid penalties keeping drives alive it would have been even more impressive.

The play calling in the 2nd half was conservative and boring, I assume the with the weather this was the right call.

I agree, seemed like old days with play calling but with the D playing good, just not turning the ball over was the way to go.

obviously still a lot to work on, but I must say it was a relief to see our defense almost shut down a team, I was really worried after McNeese. (it did make me feel a tad better that McNeese put up almost 500 yards against Tulane today)

Yeah, the McNeese/Tulane game was another one of those games in which neither defense could stop the other team's offense. The difference between that game and the McNeese/App State game is that McNeese fumbled the ball away twice when it was driving in Tulane territory. Worst thing about it is that both fumbles occurred at the ends of nice gains to make first downs.

Had McNeese done that against App State they wouldn't have won that one either. That's not all either. McNeese just generally made more mistakes against Tulane than they did against App State.

sounds like McNeese was a couple plays away from pulling a huge upset. I think they are one team that has far exceeded expectations thus far and is deserving of their top 10 ranking. (minus the one bad half verse henderson)

Defense played stoutly, but the offense could of done better. But of course it's hard to run an offense in those conditions.

I have a lot of family there and in Gadsden. xthumbsupx

Was at the game. The second half offense reminded me of those classic Jerry Moore days under Rob Best when playing with a comfortable lead (considering the weather conditions) and the defense shutting down the opponent. Without the roughing the kicker penalty and the out of bounds personal foul on the sidelines after a failed 3rd down play, I don't know if Samford would have crossed midfield all day. Sam Martin deserves a lot of credit for keeping the Bulldogs pinned deep all day.

Other than the our punt return team, ASU's special teams were outstanding from kickoffs, FG, and coverage. If this team can remain focused on special teams and defense they can go a long way.

they did cross midfield earlier in the game when ed gainey had that interception and 54 yard return... the conditions werent as bad as i was worried about they could have been but they were bad at times

AMAZING PLAY BY ARMANTI.

Not sure if I can describe it.

Running for his life, eluding tacklers... 3 or 4 Samford players hanging on him... he fumbles... picks it up... throws it for 1st down.

Devon Moore=Most Underrated runningback in the Socon. 155 yards last week and 106 on 17 carries(6.2 avg.) this week against a very stout Samford D.

Great Job.

It's Tulanexcoolx. Huge is a bit much. I was expecting them to win and honestly am disappointed they didn't.

Tulanes about as low as you can go in the CUSA.

I was at this game, and can safely say that had the game not been played in conditions ranging from damp to downpour, the offensive numbers would have been formidable. A lot of dropped balls and other butterfingers errors that probably wouldn't have existed had there not been so much damnable wetness.

I feel a lot better about our D, and trust our offense to continue to show up. We've had our early setbacks, but here's hoping it's uphill from here...

Kudos to fans from both sides who toughed it out for 4 quarters of sogginess. We look forward to seeing more of Samford at the Rock in years to come.
