How can anyone to take this poll seriously. Its a shame the NCAA views this as the "official" poll.

Mr. C - I hate to call you out on this but you've got to get this thing under control. Its becoming more and more apparent that the TSN poll isn't in any way audited.

Too funny with the non-updated poll having Georgia State in it.

Too High...

SC State
App St
Holy Cross
Harvard

Too Low...

Elon
UCA
SD State

Amusing...

Just read the others receiving votes, I count 27 teams listed that I couldn't fathom putting in my Top 25.

Who in their right mind is still voting for Albany?

And voting for Valpo?

The top 25 isn't bad, but putting these crazy votes in the ORV category takes away from what could be a decent poll.

TSN would be better off not listing them.

Not sure any team that gets beat 59-7 should be in the FCS top 25. I know Cal is good team, but a top 25 FCS team should still be able to keep it closer than 53 points.

Not sure W&M has a math department. xcoffeex

Cal is a legit contender for the National Championship. They also pulled their starters almost a quarter after we pulled ours because the game was out of reach. They felt they needed to run up the score to make it look more impressive.

Its a way to kiss ass......people figure its a pretty good chance that one day they'll be working for someone that went to Harvard and they'll be able to say - I always voted for you guys in the Top 25. I swear I did. xrolleyesxxrolleyesxxrolleyesx

In all seriousness I've been trying to figure this out for 4 years now. I've come to the conlusion that voting for the Ivy league teams is a knee-jerk reaction for people. They do it because its an easy vote (it will rarely, if ever, get tested against other Top 25 teams) - not because they've actually taken the time to evaluate it.

Why even bother including the "others receiving votes." Spurrier used to vote Duke in every year just for fun, so "others" doesn't have a lot of cred., anyway. Stop it at top 25, MAYBE only include the top 3-4 receiving votes. A lot of teams on there are nowhere near the top 25 (TTU, Murray, etc.)...

The Georgia St. thing is too funny. The school won't even play a down of football until next season and they are already getting votes. Sheesh, and we thought their fans are pretty full of themselves already - wait until they hear about this. xlolx

Yes - PFL team. And they have a loss to a DII school.

I'm thinking that someone ranked them very high in their poll which leads to the 23 points. I don't think they had 23 votes.

How can anyone to take this poll seriously. Its a shame the NCAA views this as the "official" poll.

Mr. C - I hate to call you out on this but you've got to get this thing under control. Its becoming more and more apparent that the TSN poll isn't in any way audited.

I think that is a typo. There is no way to vote for Georgia State in the automated system we now use. I am sure that is a typo or glitch.

For the record, Georgia State was never part of the Top-25 poll released by The Sports Network today. It is not even possible for Georgia State to receive votes in the TSN Top-25 poll. Due to some sort of programming glitch, the others receiving votes category in the poll was listed incorrectly for a matter of minutes this afternoon. It was quickly corrected to reflect the actual vote totals of all teams that received votes. Again, no voter from our ranks voted for Georgia State and there is absolutely no way for anyone to do so in our automated system. Our voters, which include SIDs, broadcasters, writers and other FCS experts, are free to vote for any of the 125 teams in FCS. The poll that was listed as our poll was not even the officially released poll that went out to hundreds of media outlets this afternoon.

Are the teams selected from a drop-down list?

Maybe someone intended to vote Villanova at #3 and their mouse slipped to Valparaiso. That single slip would give Valpo 23 points.

I would say that likely happened but Mr. C has to approve ballots so I would guess that just several people voted Valpo in the 22-25 range. If just 7 people vote them there that is 21 points and then one votes them at 24 to give them 23 points. When you have 145 voters that is possible.

As someone mentioned on another thread. I think there should be no polls until first weekend in October. This is all meaningless crap and just makes us spend a lot of time talking about meaningless crap.xsmhx

The answer to that is simple. Many people had Harvard in their preseason top 25. I had them in mine at #25 and I have not taken them out because they have not played yet. That would be like not voting App State this week at all because they aren't playing. If we vote on the top 25 by week then any time a team has a bye week we would not vote them. I think if you have Harvard in your preseason vote you should not drop them until they lose but you should also not move them up until they have played and shown they should be moved up. Harvard actually dropped a spot, showing that voters are at least not slotting them up and letting teams who have proven they deserve to move up jump ahead of them.

So Georg St = Missouri St somehow? xconfusedx

If you look at both the original listing and the new one, you can see that some content near the end of the ORV section in the original listing was somehow deleted.

Looking at the corrected poll, Georgia Southern had 15 votes, and then there are a whole bunch of teams listed after that until you get down to Missouri State with 2 votes. Delete that big chunk (including parts of the Georgia Southern and Missouri State entries) in the middle, and you see how a phantom hybrid "Georg State 2" listing was created.

And if people notice it had to be a glitch because it said "Georg" not "Georgia". Looks like something happened in the system and it combined Georgia Southern and Missouri State.

Sorry, I thought we had already established that the TSN poll either doesn't have a committee or they do not take their job very seriously. Or are you refering to the AGS Poll?

If Valpo showed up on 20+ ballots they've got a real problem. I think it is much more likely that 1 polster had them at #3 and no one caught it. I say, Check that ballot for Villanova.

My favorite part is from the TSN article about the poll:

William & Mary (2-0), which was ranked 14th in the preseason, continued its rise, moving up two spots from seventh to fifth during an off-week. The Tribe stunned BCS school Virginia 26-14 the previous week
