App State's Monte Smith (LB, Jr.), has an uncle, Joe Spikes, who played on the Appalachian State University-Marshall semi-final game in 1987.
Monte has been a mainstay and standout on this year's championship game run.
I for one, am proud of this connection to the past.
As mentioned previously, Tommy Soffield, Jr (JR DL) on this year's squad is the son of another ASU great (Tommy, Sr), who played for ASU during the Jim Brakefield years.
Hell, it's not like the tradition of a Notre Dame, but we at App are still proud of these connections.
