Estes Stadium

http://www.ucasports.com/gallery/msc-fb-estesground.jpg

The east side of the stadium was renovated in 2003 to include a brick exterior to match the west side, concession stands, restrooms and a visitor's locker room. In addition, the field recently underwent a full replacement complete with a new drainage system.

The west (home) side of the stadium was torn down and rebuilt from the ground up before the 1998 season. The new $5 million dollar facility houses the entire football program, including dressing room, weight room, meeting and film rooms, equipment room, coaches' offices and athletic training room.

The concourse (second) level consists of concession stands, novelty stands and restrooms and offers a unique view of the game in progress. The members of the UCA Purple Circle Foundation, the school's athletic booster club, receive reserved seating in the lower concourse level. The concourse level also features the Hall of Fame room, which houses the UCA Sports Hall of Fame and serves as a reception area during games and throughout the year.

The third level, which rises some seven stories, is home to the press box, radio booths, coaches' booths, film decks and president's reception area. The second and third levels are both accessed by elevator.

The stadium also received a new $100,000 scoreboard midway through the 1998 season, and quickly tested it out with a 62-12 victory over Arkansas-Monticello.

The Purple Circle

The UCA Purple Circle Foundation is the official support organization for UCA Athletics. Annually, Purple Circle Foundation contributors donate in excess of $250,000 to be used by UCA's 17 varsity sports teams. These funds cover "over and above" expenditures that might occur in areas such as physical plant enhancements, equipment costs, recruiting costs and other necessary expenses associated with keeping the Bears competitive in the new NCAA Divsion I environment.

Student-athletes at UCA depend on the Purple Circle to help keep their sports competitive in the prestigious Southland Conference. As UCA continues to rise to the top of the Southland, and NCAA Division I, the Purple Circle Foundation, and the support it provides UCA's more than 300 student-athletes, will become even more important. Alumni, former players, parents and friends of UCA all have a stake in the success of the Bear and Sugar Bear athletic programs.

Over the past century, athletic teams on this campus have provided students and fans with countless hours of entertainment and excitement, as well as serving as a great source of pride and recognition for our institution.

UCA Cheerleading

http://www.ucasports.com/gallery/tem-cl-200809largecoed.jpg

Welcome to UCA large coed cheer. The coed cheer team cheers at all home and away football games. They also cheer at all home basketball games. The large coed team competes on the National level at the NCA college nationals. In 2008, they placed 2nd in the nation behind Stephen F. Austin University by only 0.79.

The UCA cheerleaders serve as the "face" of Bear Spirit and make several public appearances throughout the year including pep rallies and other special events.

http://www.ucasports.com/gallery/tem-cl-smallcoed2009.jpg

Welcome to UCA Small Coed cheer. The small coed team is responsible for cheering all home football and basketball games. They will also be required to participate in UCA public appearances to promote Bear Spirit. The UCA small coed team is in it's 3rd consecutive year, one as all-girl and two as small coed. This team is either division depending on male participation at tryouts. We are looking forward to returning to college nationals this spring and continuing the tradition of success that UCA has had in cheerleading.

FIRST WIN OVER FBS

BEARS TAKE DOWN FBS HILLTOPPERS 28-7
FOOTBALL • Sep 19, 2009

The University of Central Arkansas Bears could not finish off a victory over NCAA FBS (Football Bowl Subdivision) team Hawaii in their season opener two weeks ago, but they figured out how to Saturday night against Western Kentucky.

UCA rolled up 407 yards of total offense to record its first victory over an FBS team with a 28-7 victory over the struggling Hilltoppers at Houchens-Smith Stadium. This time, the Bears (1-1) turned a 14-7 halftime lead into a milestone victory by forcing three turnovers and getting a career-long 73-yard pass from senior quarterback Robbie Park to junior receiver Darrius McNeal that in effect put the game away in the third quarter.

Senior receiver Preston Echols caught a game-high eight passes for 87 yards and a touchdown and Park completed 18 of 21 passes (85.7 percent) for 177 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Senior running backs Brent Grimes (14 for 81) and Leonard Ceaser (10 for 91) combined for 172 rushing yards.

McNeal made his season debut a memorable one with a career-long 73-yard touchdown reception that staked the Bears to a 21-7 lead late in the third quarter. McNeal served a suspension for the first game and a half, but caught four passes for an even 100 yards in the second half Saturday, including the wide-open 73-yarder.

"These guys have left a legacy at UCA with this win,' said UCA head coach Clint Conque. "I'm very pleased for this senior class and this football team to be the ones to get our first FBS win. This is an enormous accomplishment for our program, something no other UCA team has been able to do.

"I think we learned a few things two weeks ago against Hawaii, and we definitely finished better tonight. I couldn't be more happy about the win and can't wait to get in (the locker room) and celebrate with my team.'
