View Full Version : Official Quincy at Indiana State thread

The FCS season starts today. Not next week, not next Saturday - today.

Indiana State will pulverize tiny Quincy (out of NAIA).

I hope. Do the Sycamores ever need a win.

Game is available on Go Sycamores (or with anyone with a College Sports Direct account). The Link to the video is available at:

http://college-sports-source.appspot.com/Scores.html?subd=FCS&week=0

6:05 EDT start.

Go Sycamores!

I'm pulling for the Sycamores. It's time for them to begin taking the necessary steps to turn around that program and I have a feeling that Coach Miles is the guy to do it. This program is a few years away from being where it should be, but it takes steps and there's an obvious commitment to football in Terre Haute.

Quincy came to Estes stadium last year and UCA drubbed them 51-6 and tallied nearly 600 yards of offense. It's an easy win but the Quincy fans and team are nice about it. xthumbsupx

Sycamores have had a lot of penalties thus far, including one where a defender celebrated a big hit and got an unsportsmanlike penalty that gave Quincy a first and goal. The Hawks had to settle for a field goal.

17-3 Trees. Listening to the radio broadcast.

Looks like the Trees are beating up on an NAIA team the way most halfway-decent FCS teams would beat up on an NAIA team. Could the Trees be, dare I say, AVERAGE this season?? Might we see something like a 5-6 season for these guys??

I'm not predicting it yet, but how weird would that be...

I think they'll get three or four wins this year. It's a work in progress for the Sycamores. In two or three years, we may even see them in the playoffs. They played loads of true freshmen last year and it's not like their is a lack of talent in Indiana.

Yep - but JumpTV does have their fair share of issues (i.e. their servers get overwhelmed during 'overlaps' - signing day stinks!). Even if you are skilled and have staged plenty of JumpTV live events, there's a long list of issues that could cause problems for your broadcasts.

That's a non-informed/non-educated football fan's response. If you understood football, you would know that it takes a while to build a program from scratch like Allen has had to do here.

Huh?

Believe me I know what I'm talking about.

I don't care that you are building from the ground up with UNI's recycled coach. So is Indiana State. That doesn't change the fact that you are in about the same positon as they are.

Coming from someone who used to coach and play football, clearly you don't.

I'm pretty sure we had 3 league wins last season... We were one freak-accident play against SIU from finishing tied for 4th last season.

Every year we have gotten better talent, Allen is consistently bringing in better players and even if they could make an impact they're redshirting. It takes a while to see results when you do that.

UNI's recycled coach? He left you guys for a better opportunity.

Am I jealous of UNI football? Hell yes I am, but that doesn't give you the right to put us and InSU in the same boat.

"One more thing before I go, and then I'm done and I can go home..." -Kurt Cobain

I really hope no one else in the FCS world takes this loss tonight as indicative of all of MVFC football. The MVFC is at LEAST one of the three best FCS conferences, and we go through the proving ground every week. We're a DANG GOOD CONFERENCE. Indiana State does not represent even the middle-tier schools of the Valley like WIU, NDSU, SDSU, etc. PLEASE understand that come Thanksgiving weekend, our (2 or 3 or even 4) teams will be battling hard in the playoffs to represent our conference in the best possible way. I seriously thought when the Trees were up 17-3 that ISU would be something like a 3-8 or 4-7 team this year. Now that has been shattered to death. I pray for the sake of everyone else in our conference, that we all try our best to beat up on ISU Blue in every game this year in order to salvage our respect. And if any Indiana State fan doesn't like what I just wrote, TS. You earned that tonight.

Out.

Didn't Bears and Trees go to overtime last year? xconfusedxxconfusedx

If so, I think that has more to do with why Bears and Trees are lumped together.

OK playoff prognosticators...

Does this basically destroy the MVFC's conference rating in regards to potential at large berths? (i.e. an 8-4 NDSU vs an 8-4 Texas State) I know the season has barely even started yet, but in the grand scheme of things you have to always have your eye to the future.

No. Don't be ridiculous.

NDSU was just an example for my argument. Don't get your jockstraps in a bunch. You really don't think that a game like this would hurt the entire MVFC's SOS to the point where it COULD be a factor? The MEAC takes flak all the time about how weak our teams are and how we would never be considered for an at-large. Now I realize that it's apples to oranges (due to our playoff history which is the bigger factor) but Indy State losing to an NAIA squad makes them a statistically weaker opponent for the rest of your conference to face. I echo your own post earlier, I hope that the "Sick-amores" go winless in conference play for the sake of your own playoff hopes.

How would this change anyones view of the MVFC? Indiana State has lost the last 27 games and have lost 51 out of their last 52 or something crazy like that, three winless seasons in four years. This is not like its something new. The trees have probably been the worst Scholarship D1 team the last four years. Its not going to hurt the MVFC anymore than it has previously.

that being said I really believed the Trees would win this easily. They seemed to be headed in the right direction heading into this season, maybe upgrading from "terrible" to "very bad". This is a bad start for the Sycs. :(

If TA had to build MSU's program "from scratch", then what exactly do the Sycamore coaches have to work with? Is there something less-than-scratch? Because I'm sure that TA inherited alot more football resources when he came in than Trent Miles did.

Oh well, I guess Missouri State still has the distinction of being the only team to lose to Indiana State in the last 52 games.

It lowers the "Strength of schedule" for the other teams in the league, sure, just like it lowers EIU's strength of schedule, since they play Indiana State as well.

But it is silly to think that it DESTROYS it.

Besides, judging an entire conference based on it's weakest team is rather silly.
That's like determining your opinion of the entire SoCon based on UT-Chattanooga or your opinion of the CAA based on Northeaster, or your opinion of the Big 12 based on Iowa State.

Northeastern is always a tough out and would never lose to a team like Quincy. If one wanted to have Northeastern play UT-Chattanooga or Indiana State, I am ok with how they would perform. They have taken the likes of Georgia Southern to the limit in recent years.

If Northeastern is your example of a CAA patsy then the CAA is much better than the MVFC.

Are you fn kidding me Trees? I've been one of the few supporters of ISU blue saying that this is the year they turn it around, and then you faceplant against an NAIA? Holy Crap. Please submit your application for the Pioneer League.

One question for people who might know: Why is Quincy Division II in all sports except for NAIA football?? Is that allowed?? I don't know. This is pretty bad. Quincy isn't bad.... they are really bad. They haven't won more than 6 games since 1994. In that time, here are their I-AA games...

WIU 63 - Quincy 0
UCA 51 - Quincy 6
SIU 59 - Quincy 14
MSU 51 - Quincy 14
WIU 38 - Qunicy 31
SIU 64 - Quincy 14
ILSU 55 - Quincy 10

and South Dakota 59 - Quincy 0

This has to go down as one of the worst losses by a I-AA ever.
