If we're talking OVC, the it would definitely be Murray State...lol.

We are hoping so. Picking up those LB's are huge, the most important thing in getting transfers is how they "fit" the program. It is great to get the talent but you have to make sure the kids coming in are willing to buy into the coaches program and not come in as premadonnas (sp).

Here is hoping Coach Hood and his assistants have examined the character and motives of these young men they have added. I have confidence that they have.

On paper the Smith kid should be the #1 QB.

EKU almost had a transfer from Arizona State at QB but he decommitted. He was a nice player.

I think they will do fine. Just hope the players mesh quickly and they find consistancy at QB, replacing Holland will be difficult.

How much of an impact can transfers really make in your opinions? Take a look at these kids coming to EKU. How much of a difference is there really?

I think the LBs will make a large impact...we were potentially a little thin there.

I would have to agree, not that the guys there are not good, just needed some depth at LB and it appears that was addressed.

Hoping to get a 3rd straight OVC title but JSU and UT- Martin are both going to be good and others hav also gotten better. Could be a VERY strong year for the OVC.

We won't be winning any football title this year.

Will guys that can't play at WKU or Toledo really be any help?

There are many reasons kids transfer, not just because they can't play at the other schools. We will see if they help.

Hasn't EKU always had a lot of transfers? I feel like I remember seeing a lot on the roster the last 2 years.

It has gone in spurts in regard to transfers for EKU.

The last transfer we took from Toledo was a second round NFL draft pick and is now playing for the Houston Texans after Mel Kiper Jr. raved about him. So to answer your question....yes.

It doesn't matter which program you came from. You could come from LSU but still come into Roy Kidd Stadium and blow the game for your team by throwing five picks. Hypothetically speaking of course ;)

(That's only a joke, Periloux is a fantastic player).

There has been a decent history of transfer QBs, but overall I'd say we take fewer than average. Roy Kidd was very much a 4 year player kind of guy. I wouldn't be shocked if we get a few from Purdue in the near future though.

Correct EKU05, we do take fewer than most historically. This was just an odd type of year in this area. A couple of these kids are still 4 year players too.

So where did Chasen Stangel end up then if he decommitted from EKU???

We didn't hear anything around town of him decommiting that I can think of. I usually hear these things or it is posted on bisonville. Interesting I wonder what roster he will show up on.

I will be too, he did not want to stay in the dorms at EKU, that is a rule for all first year students. That was the deal breaker.

That is lame!!! You do what you have to to play a game and get your education paid for. So did you guys have the commit from the Marshall player before or after him decommitting ;);)

FCS_Fan
July 27th, 2009, 03:40 PM
Chris Smith had committed before, but there was still a question whether he was going to make it or not. He is going to be there which leaves 3 QB's ( Smith, Pryor and Hoskins) and WR Cody Watts who has and could play QB if needed.

I do not think it was a good reason either. Others are coming in from other places and not complaining like the Fairchild kid from Syracuse, who visited with Stengal.

Unfortunately, I think it'll be another long season for the Purple & Gold. We'll definitely find out on 9-19, but 2010 is when I think they'll make a significant move...Congrats on the new field, I'd be proud of it!

I agree we should and are proud of it. I would also say that 2010 might be an even better year for EKU, but we have some strong senior leaders this year in Hall, Hardman, Phelps and others that will allow the Colonels to have the potential for a solid year. 2010 and 2011 could be better as some of the talented youth and transfers hit stride , mature and learn the system.

One yr. at a time my friend. The additoions will help, but watch out for JSU to play spoilers this year.

Well said...some may even help this year, but the base of talent EKU has is very good. JSU will be interesting to see how they respond.
