Anybody else have an open date that Saturday? This has been unfilled a while. I believe this was at one time a Colgate vs. Army matchup.

I think Dayton may only have 10. :)

Only 10 so far, though plenty of time to slot someone into that spot

I'd hope they're having (or have had) conversations with Coastal Carolina after last season. Home-and-home is much more fun than a One-off. We don't even get hurricanes in CNY :D

I was thinking of the Fightin' Blue Hens, though no disrespect to our Dayton bretheren, who have defeated PL member Fordham two years in a row...

That would be a VERY tough game for Colgate after last year's result.

That's exactly why you play that game xnodx

Hey, why not play Lehigh twice!! Back in the late 1800's Lehigh and Lafayette played each other twice a year for about 10 years, and one year did it three times! I wonder when that last happened anywhere, during regular season, when two teams played each other twice??xrotatehx

You guys have an open date?

If Marty Scarano of UNH reads this board, PLEASE call up Dave Roach of Colgate about a home-and-home or series. UNH is dated up for 2011 as I understand it, but Colgate has other open dates now that Dartmouth has ended its series with Colgate and UNH, the match-up is a natural and travel costs are very reasonable.

I hear Southern Utah is always looking to make their schedule harder and harder.

If that doesn't work, Georgetown owes the Red Raiders a game from last year. Home and away in 2011? xlolx

At this point it is not so much about 2011. Roach is just so damnmed short-sighted as to scheduling and a series with UNH is a natural, unless we're going to have Ivy games gradually fade away and were are left to play only NEC teams OOC from now on. He also waits for people to call him and is not proactive in scheduling opponents.

You are always welcome back on Long Island. Not sure what sure schedule looks like in 2011 other than a road trip to Buffalo.

Is Colgate still scheduled to play Air Force? Or was this the date the two were suppose to play?

The Air Force game isn't until 2013, so it should still be on the schedule

This open date would be a replacement for another team dropping us, I believe

A few D-II teams schedule each other twice in the regular season. (the western D-II tems and some PSAC teams end up playing twice a year in the regular season based on the east/west championship game)

We all remember NU playing UNH twice the year after BU dropped football.

I recall sometime right before UConn went 1A they played UMass twice and beat them once at home and once on the road in the regular season. Maybe '98 or '99?

Could not agree more. This would be a great rivalry assuming the "little" Green are not in the mood for what should be a classic in-state rivalry anymore after this year.

Heck, this is a great rivalry in the making even if Buddy's boys agree to keep playing UNH......

I'm glad the UNH contingent sees this too and I hope my Colgate colleagues agree. Both teams have a chance at a game with a strong regional rival and the series can be home-and-home (which will please our AD) without ruffling anyone's feathers. Dartmouth's loss is a gain for Colgate and UNH.

How about a series with a PFL team? I would gladly travel to Colgate to see my Flyers play. Heck, when is the last time Colgate played in Ohio?

And.... Dayton and Colgate have never met on the gridiron. Considering how long both have been playing football, it seems about time!

Not that it has anything to do with this thread, but while I was at "The Warehouse", I noted once again that all time, Dayton is 9-0 versus Youngstown State!

Dayton is 6-12 all-time against PL teams:

Bucknell: 1-2 (last game 1962)
Colgate: No meeting
Fordham: 4-0 (last game 2008)
Georgetown: No meeting
Holy Cross: 1-9 (last game 1962)
Lehigh: No meeting
Lafayette: 0-1 (last game 1923)

I remember seein' that in the early part of the 20th century that Mizzou played Central Methodist (then Central College) THREE times in SIX days...Mizzou won all three of course.

A more accurate tally would probably be 3-1, with Dayton's loss coming against Towson.

Regrettably, these days there seems to be a lot of people affiliated with Colgate University who would also like us to play Middlebury, along with Williams, Amherst and Tufts - as a member of the NESCAC. If Dayton wants to play Colgate home-and-home, fine by me.
