(3/4 of the way down the article):
"McGee will also have a new teammate in August. A source said Friday that Syracuse defensive end Lamar Middleton is in the process of transferring to JMU. The 6-foot-2, 254-pounder had been practicing with the Orange's first-team defense before leaving the team before the spring game, according to newspaper reports.

Coming out of Shabazz High School in Newark, N.J., in 2007, Middleton ran the 40-yard dash in 4.73 seconds and chose Syracuse over offers from Rutgers and Illinois. He redshirted as a freshman in 2007 and played in one game last year, giving him three years of eligibility."

Well, good news for JMU fans. 1st JD Skolnitsky was suspended for his senior season due to testing positive for a banned substance.

Skolnitsky has signed a free agent contract with the Redskins and will be in their summer camp. With Skolnitsky along with Arthur Moats and Sam Daniels returning, both of whom received all CAA 3rd team honors last season (Daniels was one of only 2 interior de lineman, as 10 of the 12 de lineman who received all CAA honors were de ends, including all 8 on the 1st & 2nd team), JMU was looking to have a dominant de line. Then Skolnitsky was lost, but it was announced that a transfer DL from Army, who'd started most of the 07' season, was transferring. Apparently that has fallen through. Then as the 1st article states, Quintrel Thomas, who likley would have been starting at the 2nd de end spot, recently got kicked off the team. So JMU really could use a quality de line transfer, and this Syracuse transfer sounds like he is, as the article states he was practicing with the Syracuse 1st team defense at defensive end in the Spring.

I imagine JMU will play him at DE, but he was working at DT for Syracuse this spring. Very timely with Thomas' departure.

Double edged sword? Kid sounds like a nice pickup, but he also played at arguably the worst FBS program in the country. :)

yeah, that's pretty big for a d-end at this level. big meaning weight, not height. 254 isn't massive, but it's pretty big at only 6'2". sounds like a dwight freeney (another syracuse grad) type of body.

i hope he's good. all i know is syracuse has sucked balls for several years so him being on 1st team D might not mean much. we'll see, i guess.

i'm most excited about Jordan Stanton - the incoming freshman who turned down offers from Boston College and Maryland.

Exactly what I was thinking. The Orange have been every definition of the word awful for the last few years. Then again, maybe the kid chose 'Cuse over Rutgers and Illinois because he thought he had a better chance at PT.

Worst BCS? Maybe. Worse FBS? Not even close. Hell, you name one of the teams from the bottom half of the Slum Belch Conference for that honor. Heck, maybe Army would be the worst FBS and like I said JMU was slated to have an Army transfer who played in all 12 game sin 07', starting 4, but was injured most of last season:

Like I said, I think its fallen through for some unknown reason, but nothing official has been stated over on the JMU board. But he wasn't at Spring practice:

The Fightin' Blue Hens got a DL transfer from Syracuse last year (Brandon Gilbeaux). He was a solid player in 08 and will be a big part of our D-line in 09. The performance of the 'Cuse was no indicator of how well he performs.

If JMU wasn't looking -1 in the 2 deep from last year (- JD Skolnitsky, -Q Thomas + the Cuse transfer) I would think it would be highly likely Staunton would redshirt. But unless that Army transfer plays or there is another transfer, I wouldn't be surprised from the hype on the Stanton kid to see him play as a true freshman on the 2 deep. Here is what I envision as a possibility:

Starting de ends:
Moats, Sr (08' 3rd team All CAA)
Middleton, RSo transfer from Cuse

Starting DTs:
Daniels, RSr (08' 3rd team All CAA, likely pre season 1st team)
Ronnell Brown, RJr, on 2 deep 08'

2 deep:

De end:
DJ Bryant, RSo
Jordan Stanton, Fr

DT
Dominique White, RSr, on 2 deep 08'
Max Alexandre, RJr, or Lucas Peterson, Jr, or one of the 2 freshman DTs from last yr who were redshirted.
